OMG I woke up to the news of that extra promo and Hook as a knight!!! Swoooooon. My anticipation for this episode just quadrupled and I didn’t think that was possible. I don’t really have anything to add except an additional squee 🙂

Hook is my favorite character too and has been since his intro and Emma’s standoffishness, though perceived as protecting herself by most of the fandom, is getting old and beginning to grate. Not only has Killian given her no reason to doubt his loyalty, crossing realms (and perhaps time as well) to reach her, but she also has to remember that he confessed his feelings for her in the Echo Cave, hence his veracity cannot be in doubt. I admit she’s not had a whole lot of time to process since she had no memories of the last year and hence couldn’t really “miss” him as he missed her. Plus she’s had to deal with Walsh’s betrayal and Henry being clueless, Neal’s death and the Wicked Witch. Overwhelming, yes. I also know its only a matter of time before the dam breaks and her feelings come pouring out.
That said, I maybe among the few who want Emma to acknowledge her feelings without any duress, and not when Killian is in a life-threatening situation/ under a sleeping curse vis-a-vis Season 1.And I have a sort of head-canon how this could happen in 3×17.
The Jolly Roger could be paralleling Good Form in more ways than one.
Hook takes off on an adventure with an important male member in Emma’s family (Charming/Henry). (Remember Eddy saying Hook and Henry make quite the team?) while Emma teams up with Regina to achieve an important target in their mission (defeat WW/ save Henry). Also we saw in Good form what made Killian embrace the pirate life and in Jolly Roger we’ll probably see what made him give it up forever.And we know what happens when Hook and Emma meet alone later in Good form. I’ve been thinking all this while that we wouldn’t have another kiss (that would most likely be a TLK) until the finale since it would be required to break the curse and would need to be part of a climactic scenario much like S1.
But when you think about it what exactly did the curse do? It brought them to SB and took away their memories of the last year that served out the plot device of them not knowing who cursed them. Now that they know there’s no real reason for the memories to stay hidden. In fact, getting them back may advance the plot especially where OQ is concerned.
And we do know now that Zelena has a far more nefarious purpose, using the brain, courage and heart to cast a new curse that would erase/change the past?
So guys what if there’s a CS kiss in 317 and it actually breaks the curse, everyone gets their memories back and CS is irrefutably established as TRUE LOVE? This also pushes up the probability of it being a CS wedding in the finale & its likely they take off together on the next adventure that could be some sort of time travel to try and thwart the WWs curse?^^^ I thought he let her win and just played dead
One line here really got me; that he was there when Cora tried to steal her heart. I thought he was knocked out during all that.
I picked that up too- I just thought maybe he had started to come too about then & saw it.
It just occurred to me! He purposefully lost that fight to help her and Mary Margaret get away from Cora and escape back to Storybrooke. He never intended to keep Emma away from her son. He was just “playing possum”!

If I didn’t believe it before, I certainly do now. I love the fact that he knew about her abilities all along and didn’t give her a hard time over it (ahem, Neal), he just accepted that it was part of her, full stop.

I would prefer that overall as well, just seems like to me what more can the man do to fully knock down the walls? If giving up the JR doesn’t do it then I don’t know what will aside from him being hurt/in danger. I do love your idea though and it is plausible as I agree about your points about the existing curse. It has served its purpose and I am assuming like the last one, breaking it won’t return them all to EF, just give them back memories.
@polythenepam I think I am starting to think something similar to your theory.
I think Hook has been very vague about his “missing” year because it was MAJOR, as in a major CHANGE for his character that he is afraid Emma might not be ready for yet (kind of like Henry kept telling her she wasn’t ready for things yet). And now that we have this new promo I think we know what it is.
What if Hook realizes he can’t just go back to being a pirate while missing Emma like crazy and decides that he needs to be with HIS family – Snow, Charming, heck even Regina now. And when he returns and is helping them he is Knighted by the Charmings or Regina before he goes off to find Emma. But he still had to wear his pirate garb for Emma because she only knows him as a pirate. And now NO ONE remembers that he was Knighted. So when he says that he knows that you can never go back to who you used to be he means that literally. He actually CAN’T because he is SIR Killian Jones now, he is no longer a pirate. He is literally her Knight in Shining Armor but he can’t tell her that – she has to literally figure it out on her own. I have the feeling it would be Charming who would Knight him and tell him to go get his daughter. Which after all the “You’ll never be anything but a pirate” comments from Charming would be the BEST Captain Charming moment ever!! But it would also be basically a blessing from Charming to court/marry Emma (which could explain Charming’s dream of Emma in the gown). Which means that Hook can’t just spring on memory loss Snowing that they Knighted him and told him to go get their daughter. But it also explains that, aside from the fact that he would do it anyway because he loves them, he is protecting the heck out of Emma and Henry – just like a loyal Knight would. I wonder if what might happen in the next episode is that Hook will get hurt trying to protect Henry but he will be okay. Henry will fill Emma in on how he protected him and then she will get enough of the missing year story to find out about the Jolly Roger that she will think she’s getting the whole story (but we will get all of it). That could lead to her realizing she does actually “like” him and they could end up kind of being an item while they are fighting the WW. But then when everyone gets their memories back I think Charming will tell her the whole story thinking that Hook must have already told her and she will realize everything he has done for her and that he allowed her to realize on her own that she actually loves him. Then the “blocked ” moment could be them kissing after she tells him that she knows he is really her Knight in Shining Armor – in an Emma Swan way of course, she isn’t rainbow stickers and unicorn kisses Snow afterall. It would almost be a reverse Princess Bride Moment. Instead of having Pirate Wesley trying to hint to Buttercup who he really is Emma could hint around to Pirate Hook that she actually knows he is really a Knight. Bonus if we get a third “As you wish.”

Thank you for the support! Hook has certainly and literally gone the distance to show Swan he can be trusted. He’s one of the more deep/passionate/ emotionally raw characters on Once and that is his massive appeal, good behavior and not so good behavior, the man is loaded with passion.
That also makes him sometimes impulsive and impatient (grin). But he has not been impulsive nor impatient about his love for Emma, even though it probably shocked his soul at how deep it went during Neverland.
I actually am hoping his Shining armor stint may be a realization dream sequence of Emma’s that finally, subconciously helps her face the truth she wants to avoid and fights with fierce denial and sometimes fear-driven “meanness”…that Killian IS the man who will he her loyal life’s battle partner, in adventure and love. Heady reality for a woman with such formidable walls
Oh, and Emma clocked him quite effectively by the lake! I think, as has been suggested, he was coming out of his temporary “clocking” and witnessed Cora’s failure to capture her heart. Emma’s fierceness is a huge part of what he loves about her, when she isn’t fighting her interal struggles. They have a great match of passion.

I always thought he threw that fight… it makes sense. He’s Captain Hook with centuries of fighting experience ( not that we can tell with his close relationship with the floor … ) and Emma was new to all that kind of fighting …
