Yes. Adam and Eddie said earlier before the 3A began that they had a plan in place for Jared’s sudden growth spirt, and skipping ahead to one year in the winter finale and then also this, is part of that plan. And that makes me really excited going forward because we’re going to see Henry dealing with more adult situations and how he reacts to them. No more trying to destroy magic, or save magic or throw temper tantrums.

Thank God, season 2 Henry was so annoying and so bratty. I hated how he dangled himself as a reward in front of Regina then just blew her off when it suited him. He called her mom when it suited him, then didn’t want to see her the rest of the time. The stuff with the dynamite was soooooooooooo idiotic on a grand scale that it made Dopey look Brainy. I think the most annoying thing of season 2 Henry was that none of the adults called him out on his stupid behaviour, Charming didn’t tell him off about the snakes and neither Regina, Emma, Snowing or Neal told him off about the dynamite. They let him get away with it! Season 2 Henry liked to play the adults off against each other. First Emma was flavour of the month over Regina (even season 1 Henry was a bit like that “I found my real mom” No Henry you found your biological mom, your real mom raised you for 10 years) then when Emma inevitably fell off the pedestal Henry had put her on, Neal and Rumple were flavour of the month.

3A Henry was a slight improvement over bratty Henry but he was so gullible when it came to believing Pan, a person he’s only known for a week and was very suspicious of to the point he actually tried to shoot Pan with a crossbow. He had his 3 parents in the room telling him that Pan was lying and to not give Pan his heart. Does Henry listen? No, he ignores them and goes ahead and does the thing he’s not supposed to do anyway. Henry needed to learn that he doesn’t know best so he should listen to the adults around him.

3B Henry or rather New Henry is a vast improvement. He is listening to the adults in his life even though he may sometimes question what they say. For example, Henry questions why Emma brought them to Storybrooke but listens to he when she tells him to stay put. He doesn’t go out investigating like old Henry would have done. New Henry is a character whereas old Henry was a walking, talking, irritating plot-device.

I liked how Henry didn’t immediately believe Emma when she told him the good stuff about Neal because that felt natural. Henry spent his “whole” life hearing about how his dad was a jerk who let Emma go to prison so for her to suddenly turn around and say to him “your dad was a good man etc”, whilst true, would’ve been a bit suspicious. It actually took an independent source (Hook) to say to Henry “yeah your dad was a good man etc” for Henry to believe what Emma had said.

@jenna b  yes desperation is the best word for Neal and it caused most of the hard spots he was in.

@pom  yes yes. .. Henry was been one of my least favorite characters because he thinks he is an adult and everyone goes along with it.  I like this Henry better and looking for more scenes with him

Jenna_BParticipant To me, Neal was meant to embody desperation. A very unpopular thought, I know, which is why I only dare say it here. But even from the beginning – he was desperate to leave the EF because of what Rumple had become. He was desperate to get off the JR when he realized who Hook was. He was even desperate to do the right thing, which, in my opinion, it was so easy for August to persuade Neal that he needed to leave Emma. That desperation was his fatal flaw – it caused him to act before thinking. And it made him an easy target for people like August and Z to manipulate so they could achieve their own goals. And it makes Baelfire very much Rumple’s son – as we saw Rumple’s own desperation in becoming the Dark One in the first place.

thank you @Jenna_B I think that was very well said. I could never really put my finger on what bothered me most about Neal, and desperation seems to be the right fit. I wanted to like him, I really did, and I admit that the Neal I saw in Manhattan who stood up for Emma in front of his father was the best version of him. But yeah, you’re right, he was impulsive and desperate which is too bad because he could have been so much more.

Happy once day guys! 3 & 1/2 looooooong hrs to go- but it’s getting closer.

    @Jenna_B
thanks for the great post & you’ve made a very interesting & valid point- he was desperate & that did ultimately lead him to his death.

I also am keen to see how they develop Henry this season, they have set up a very interesting story arc for him- I just hope we get to see it play out on screen 🙂

Oh my goodness great ep.  Head.  Blown.  I hate to say it, but I’m kinda happy Miss “I Don’t Yearn’s” gonna be yearning something awful…just for a few episodes.

New headcannon.  Zelena thinks the curse will cause Emma to lose her magic but when Emma does TLK Killian, nothing happens.  Emma’s magic is impenetrable.  And…we find this out next ep.  😉  I still want Regina to be the one to break the curse!

“I can either make this painful…or quite painful!”

    muhahaha.

I love me some heavy handed Hook! And the shadows behind the sail are such a delightfully superb nod to Errol Flynn ( aye, captain Blood!)

Zelema raises the stakes and oh my is this going to be pure UST and beyond fun!

They made it far more entertaining than anything I had imagined 😉

I hate Zelena more than ever. Not sure words can express what I’m feeling right now. Too tired and in pain and now added emotional trauma from the show.

I expected going in it would be painful but definitely was NOT expecting THAT! It’s part of his redemption & it’s important he acknowledged what he did and he’s realized he’ll never be that person again/can’t have that life again and is now fighting to be the man he wants to be / deserving of Emma’s love. BUT THIS IS PAINFUL!!!!

Ugh, I called that Zelena would impersonate someone but I was really expecting it to be Emma…this is even worse! And that curse! UGH. Emma is finally letting him in! She spent the whole episode talking about him in a positive way, and wanted him to join them and clearly didn’t understand that he wasn’t going to. He’s getting along so well with Henry now, and Charming and him are friends, and this is just awful!

(I have complete faith we’ll finish Zelena off in some way by the end of the season and that we’ll get a TLK for CS before it’s done. It just HURTS right now. On the bright side Emma is now more open and letting him in and might have to do a little persuing of her own but poor Killian!)

His redemption was never going to be easy and while I hate his decision (and the fact that the real Ariel never got hear his heartfelt confession), it was still a step forward for him in present day and the guilt from the past affects him like it should. He lucked out bigtime. So you wanted a slow burn? 2 steps forward, 1 step back on redemption and love for Killian. PAINFUL!

Ultimately it’s good for us even though (at least it seems for now) that their next kiss will have awful results. Why must every villain keep trying to tear them apart! He’ll likely stay away from Emma for a bit but if she just goes and plants one on him sometime it’s going to have consequences. She’s finally embracing her magic too! Sigh.

Loved a lot of the other stuff. Shadows on the sail, swordfighting, fighting to hold onto the only thing he has (and it’s still missing now and he’s not focused on that so I imagine he spent some time trying to make up for it pre-going to find Emma), but so so painful. The best moments were the family ones though. Loved Emma and Charming in their scenes together especially. (But Charming – no more letting the kid drive, ok? Thanks).

My Killian/CS heart is aching right now but I think it does set stuff up beautifully for the end of the season. Besides, he can’t be the only one fighting for them, it needs to go both ways. Emma is finally opening up to it but she also kind of expects him to be there and do whatever she wants for now. SO HAPPY that she decided to stop living in the past and letting herself trust again, but she can’t take him for granted either. So this is a good, but painful, thing. She brought him up the whole episode though. If it weren’t for stupid Zelena, grr!!! He would have been with everyone else at her request! And instead he had to hide his hook from Henry and turn down  a dinner he was automatically expected to be going to, and was forced to the shadows instead.

*mutters to self* This is good for us eventually but painful right now. It will all work out eventually and it will be epic & beautiful. (Repeat x infinity)

I need the next episode pronto. Painful Killian or not. (On the bright side we were right – Killian centrics are painful but good for CS in the longrun).

*cookies for everyone* Stay strong guys. It was a rough week but I have faith. We knew there would always be obstacles but right now they’re both overcoming a lot of their PERSONAL obstacles/demons and that will ultimately just make them stronger down the road and make it that much better when they do get together, especially since they’ll likely both have to fight to make it happen!

After all, Snowing had King George do a very similar thing to Snow like Zelena did to Killian, just in a different ultimatum kind of way. And look how they turned out!
