ParticipantI’m curious to that little moment between Hook and Emma coming out of Regina’s house. Was it just me thinking he was about to take her arm to help guide her down the stairs and she gave him a look of ‘what are you doing’?
I think he was about to put his hand on her back (which Emma noticed after his despondent behavior), then he withdrew it remembering he cant be close to her & didnt want to invite any intimacy between them with the gesture.

ParticipantI agreed with you Rumplegoldfan and surayya … I’m sure if push came to shove Hook would love to swap out for a hand… but I do like the bad boy aspect of captain hook and thst us part of him / his past. But isn’t his hand on gold’s shop? I guess A&E have it there so they can can rumple give it back and they can bury the hachet… and not in each other.
Ellemo78 that was my favorite scene… like he was going to put his hand on the small of her back to guide her out. so why would he feel so comfortable doing that? they really are such a couple already. Giddy giggling.
Our poor pirate really Is in a bad mood huh? And he is drinking again. I do love how happy Emma is though and that she and hook are always together.
Love the Regina scenes tonight and her and snow coming to terms with their pasts together.

ParticipantI’m curious to that little moment between Hook and Emma coming out of Regina’s house. Was it just me thinking he was about to take her arm to help guide her down the stairs and she gave him a look of ‘what are you doing’? Also on the hook thing, my only thought is that if they give Killian back his hand, then he is no longer Cpt Hook and I think that takes too much away from him as a fairy tale character. Having said that, if he truly becomes something more than a pirate the hook is going to get awkward. But I do like the idea of him keeping it and getting out when he needs to rely on his piratey skills. Or perhaps it will serve as a reminder of the man he no longer wants to be, much in the same way as Rumple and his cane.
for or me I think he should keep his hook. It is an integral part of who he is and his fairy tale identity. on another forum this came up and there was a poster who works with disabled people. she argued that like her clients Hook is a whole person even though he doesn’t have a hand. It doesn’t make him less of a person. Nor should he feel that he needs his hand to have a happy ending. This poster also liked that Hook and the show didn’t make a big deal about Hook being disabled and that Hook makes most things seem naturally. The example she used was when he poured himself and Emma a drink to toast Bae. He set down each glass and then poured the drink. It was done without any self-consciousness or attention. after hearing her out, I agreed with her and I think it is a nice to have a disabled main character who’s story doesn’t revolve around his disability.
Keeper of Hook and Emma's smoldering first kiss, a certain Pirate's sauciness, the Evil Queen's snarkiness, Grumpy's gruffness and a drop of true love to make it all go down smooth.

ParticipantJust wrote a meta on tumblr about Emma’s magic in this episode (can be found here: Emma’s Magic in 3×18), but I love that Emma had to concentrate SO HARD on sending the hot chocolate across the diner to land on Killian’s book and was so excited when she accomplished it, and then changed to being super sure of herself for her second trick. She even prefaced it with “Wanna see something really impressive?” and was flirty and clearly pleased with herself.
It’s the hook trick that is the most interesting though. She couldn’t even SEE the hook like she could with the cocoa (the hook was out of sight), and she whisked it away INSTANTLY to behind her on the coat rack without closing her eyes, or concentrating/squinting at it like she usually does.
She literally went from *intense concentration magic* to a very similar thing (moving an object across the room to somewhere behind her she couldn’t see) KNOWING she could do it ahead of time and not even blinking while she did it. She just owned it completely and was sure of herself.
That broke my heart a little because she was so open and flirty and HAPPY and so pleased with herself and her accomplishments in moving the objects across the room but it obviously pained Killian to see it. He’s watching her finally embrace that side of herself (which he encouraged) and he’d usually be the FIRST in line to tell her how awesome that was and how amazing she is. So glad she knows something’s off and that they’ll have to talk about it eventually. She knows that he would be excited for her so she’s genuinely confused as to why he’s not remotely acting like he normally would, but I really love just how sure of herself she is with her magic when she sees Hook beforehand. (I discussed this a bit more in the bigger meta.)
Had to laugh when she said BOOM though (would definitely NOT have been my choice) but she was just SO EXCITED and finally making things happen (and then of course being super confident and not having to work half as hard or as long to instantly move his hook across the room while being flirty!) that it worked and was (possibly) a nice nod to the actors as well. Not sure if JMO ever says it or not, but I know Colin and MRJ have both used it for a long time (I’ve seen MRJ using ita bunch and Colin has used it ages as well) so that gave me a good laugh as a little nod to how they tend to speak on twitter. (Fun side fact – apparently Rebecca Mader tends to say things are “wicked” a lot and that was before she was cast as the WWW!)
I <3 this cast so much, even when they say silly things that turn into their catchphrases that somehow make it into the show. It was just so refreshing to see Emma enjoying herself and being so proud of that side of herself!
We may not have had tons but I love what we got for sure! Can't wait to see what the rest of the season has in store for us. (LOVE LOVE LOVE Emma reaching for Hook's wrist in the seance. He started to pull back a bit when she got close and then she pulled it more toward her. Also the almost touch? SO NATURAL for him to reach out for her and want to guide her/escort her out of the room and he came so close to doing that and her expression wasn't bothered by it either but he pulled back. Poor thing is in so much pain and doesn't want to encourage too much but also can't stay away either. That moment definitely reminded me of Darcy/Lizzie & Kristoff/Anna - the almost touch and pull back thing. Classic!)

ParticipantHappy Monday everyone! Busy day yesterday so I’m just catching up on all the great posts. Good episode last night, but not great imo. The detailed spoilers from the day before kind of ruined it all for me (my fault for being weak and looking!) Loved the small CS moments; Charming going to Snow after the séance while Hook (almost) put his hand protectively on Emma’s back was a nice parallel.
Loved your meta @mysterykat25. Hadn’t even made the connection btw Graham and the cocoa until you mentioned it. Nice catch! Love how they keep showing us how easily Emma can harness her magic while looking at Killian. I just hope this kissing curse is resolved by next week so we can move on.
Found this on @captaineala’s tumblr. A good meta on how Hook and Emma are shedding/embracing their true selves by facing their counterparts Blackbeard and Glinda .
Blackbeard was the physical representation of the Captain Hook persona. It is no coincidence that both men look so much alike. He embodied everything Killian was as Hook. By sending Blackbeard to the depth Killian is destroying the Captain Hook persona in him. Something worth nothing is he even slashed his left arm to represent him losing his left hand and in that moment becoming the villain Hook. The Jolly Roger episode brought a full redemption arc for Killian when he killed Blackbeard AND begged for forgiveness from Ariel.
Glinda looks very much like our dear savior Emma Swan. The reason being is she is the physical representation of fully embraced magical Emma. In the promo Glinda says he magic is not strong enough to defeat the Wicked Witch. As an audience we know that the one person with the power to do so is Emma who is currently learning magic and embracing that side of her. With Henry being captured it by the WW it may just be the moment Emma uses the raw power of her magic on Zelena to demonstrate just how powerful she is. Emma coming to full terms with her magic abilities brings us to a full arc in that portion of her storyline. The one person that didn’t embrace the we are both is Emma and now in a Curious Thing she just might.
Adam and Eddy didn’t need to have a Blackbeard that looked like Killian or a Glinda that looked like Emma but it was done on purpose. It was done so we don’t just see Emma and Killian accepting who they are but we see it in the character that represents them in the transition. Killian killing the Hook persona and Emma accepting her magic is a huge step in the CS development. It shows how the other inspired change and acceptance of who they are. That love is so powerful it brings out the best version of ourselves.
With “Hook” gone and Emma taking hold of her magic ability this allows CS to move forward in their relationship. It brings them to a new chapter. We will have completed the arc from walled up girl and captain innuendo to an open heart Emma and an honorable man. Emma and Killian will be the true and best versions of themselves and READY for the love they have long awaited for.
@sweetgrass, I never really thought of Hook as being disabled, although technically its true. His hook is an advantage as far as I’m concerned. For a man who has lived with violence, his hook is a powerful symbol of his resilience. Yes, it’s a painful reminder of all he’s lost, but its also testament to his ability to survive and thrive thru adversity. I don’t know if I can see him living without his hook as its such and integral part of his character. He was pretty pissed when Emma took his hook, lol.April 21, 2014 at 11:45 am #262876Bo-Peeps
ParticipantLunchtime drop off:
Emma’s comfortable familiarity and playfulness regarding her brooding Captain was perhaps another way of telling him she was ready and for him to “hang up the Hook, Killian”

ParticipantInteresting points! I definitely noticed that Glinda looks a LOT like Emma but hadn’t connected that back to how much Hook looked like Black Beard (which is why we thought they were related originally). It’s VERY interesting, especially given 3×14 with both Rapunzel and Charming having to face “themselves” or rather their fears manifested as versions of themselves. Love how everything is tying together.
I completely agree that it only helps going forward and I’m curious about next week for sure. We saw this week that Emma’s magic is white (when we saw the cocoa move) as opposed to the various shades of purple, blue, green, etc we’ve seen a lot of, and in the promo, a bright white light is on Zelena’s face as she holds Henry captive. I’m not sure if that is good, like Emma using her power and stopping her….or bad as in she learns about the kissing curse and with Henry in danger she gives it up. I feel like it has to come into play sometime though I would prefer TLK to break it but not sure if it’s like a memory curse or not – kinda hard to break a kiss curse with a kiss I would imagine. Sigh. Plus there’s the um, general thought that Henry will be turned into a monkey after this so not sure how to reconcile that with the bright white light that is possibly Emma’s magic either. SO MUCH going on next week, can’t wait to see how it plays out.
I love that she’s finally embracing that side of her and she seems SO HAPPY that she’s able to do this stuff, like she’s finally…herself. The pieces are slowly but surely coming together and she’s finding and embracing who she is / was always supposed to be. Stupid kissing curse!
Love Jane’s tweets. She’s been with us practically from the start with how beautifully the beanstalk adventure was and what it set up so long ago. (I distinctly remember Jane & Christine tweets promoting “Hooka” and “Hemma” at the time that aired, LOL! So glad we fixed the name….) But yeah, she’s been so good to us and even though this episode was written with Daniel & not Christine, there were still the awesome little moments we’ve come to expect (and seriously – she does some of the best character development on the show and this episode was no exception for so many characters!)
Love that they had those little moments showing just how comfortable Emma is around him. They were alone late at night at Granny’s, he was part of the group when he really didn’t have to be which was awesome to see him included and “like family” etc. Emma knows something’s wrong but he isn’t completely backing away either, he’s still fighting by her side even though it pains him. Had it just been dinner again he would have begged off likely but it was a group pow-wow to take down the witch and he’s more invested in that than ever.
Love how she pulled his wrist to her. Poor thing pulled it back slightly before she did that but it was comforting/reassuring seeing her embrace it. He could easily be self-conscious about it at times like that, but she accepts that as part of him and doesn’t care, which is beautiful.
Another thought on the hand on the back thing (besides how painful it was to see how natural it felt for him to do that before doing the classic pull back at the last second cause you don’t technically have a title that allows for that sort of thing move a la Darcy and Kristoff lol). When she looks at him, it’s hard to read and can therefore be interpreted a million different ways (and likely already has) but she doesn’t seem bothered by it. In fact she might think that he’s finally out of his weird funk since he was close again and it goes from “oh maybe he’s ok now cause he’s trying to touch me – never mind oh well” and then they leave and go to the diner alone together. (Interesting since Charming had nowhere to be and didn’t even try to tag along and keep an eye on them. Granted both are staying at Granny’s so he may have made sure they got back there safely and then gone home himself and they obviously went to get him after Belle came and got them.)
But that moment definitely didn’t seem weird to me. It was more painful watching how much he wanted to reach out and felt the need to do so and was unable to. He’s staying close-by to help but keeping his distance emotionally and she’s definitely seeing that. I’m sure she expected it to be easy once she told him she didn’t care what happened in the last year and now he’s got this whole new thing wearing him down. Hope it’s sorted out soon!
Though I do love Emma having to break down his walls a bit instead of the other way around. I think a lot of people say it’s one-sided because we mostly see Hook’s reactions to Emma things, not the other way around. The biggest thing we’ve seen from her is not reacting well to Tink at first, both in NL and again in SB when she thought something was going on with Hook and took the time to be jealous instead of running down the street to save Blue. So it’s a nice change to watch her work on his walls and meet him halfway. They make quite the team and are equals, they need to show that in their feelings as well and Emma is FINALLY to the point where she wants to be happy and is tired of living in the doom and gloom that her life has been up to this point. Other than Walsh she’s never had a long-term relationship and has a lot of scars from various short-term things over the years. She’s afraid because Killian is clearly offering her the real deal and after everything he’s done, she’s finally learning to accept that it’s real instead of assuming he’s like every other guy. So refreshing!
