Hook was a pathetic villain. He tried to kill Rumple and thought he succeeded and then was proven that he failed and how many times did he end up on the floor?

I think if Hook was meant to be a true villain from the start the writers wouldn’t have written him the way they did which write him as sympathetic.

Hook’s relatable. People who hate him don’t see that but us? We get why he was hurt and wanted revenge.

I’m a Rumple fan too. He’s my favorite but I also recognize he was out of line for killing Milah. I in no way condone it.

    does that make any sense?

I understand what you are saying there, for me I didnt “get” Rumple or Regina’s “excuses” for being/turning evil- dont get me wrong, I understand why they did what they did, I just dont “get” why they “went there”, if that makes sense. However with Hook/Killian- I “get” why he turned into a (all be it a pathetic one) villain & I understood why he did what he did to boot, as it was entirely relatable (I think because as far as Hook is concerned, he didnt turn his hatred on innocent bystanders if he didnt have to- he knew who had “wronged” him & that was the person whom he would make pay… until he realised Belle was 1) protecting Rumple & preventing Hook achieving vengeance for Milah’s murder {not that I condone Hook hitting/hurting Belle at all for that!} & again when he realised Rumple’s heart was tied to Belle, so he tried to extract his vengeance through shooting her in the shoulder to remove her memories- that sounds so weird- & again I dont condone his actions there, however he could have shot to kill & he didnt- he shot to wound her & wound Rumple- which still doesnt make it right, but it is (IMO) a darn sight less evil than murdering whole villages because they dont like you or murdering someone for bumping into you…. or over hearing your conversation etc).

The way they introduced Hook was he was a fairly typical pirate- selfish, no care for king’s laws, arrogant, live by their own rules & code of conduct, Take advantage of weaklings/ bit of a bully etc. when the opportunity for it arose etc (gotta protect that fearsome reputation after all).

Then through a twisted series of events he tires to do the “right/honorable” thing (rescue a maiden trapped in a loveless marriage to the village coward- & I’ll be clear here when I say, it ISN’T IMO, Killian’s fault Milah chose to Leave Bae & Rumple– that is on her, not him!)- so we now have this ‘supposed’ pirate, rescuing a women from a loveless marriage…. most of us are hardly feeling like Hook is a villain at this point – arrogant & nasty in his rebuff maybe (… oh wait Charming has been like that on more than one occasion now & he’s a heroic prince lol) & sure his profession might be less than respectable, but he seems a nice enough guy- behind the arrogance & innuendos.

Then we see him again later on, typical pirate he his, he must make fun of the weakling to maintain his ‘reputation’ in front of his crew, which turns out to be an actual “big bad villain” (Rumple), we find out Killy & Milah are in love now- Rumple kills Milah (because he feels bad for abandoning their son, as she abandoned them), while she’s in Killy’s arms, then to add insult to injury, he maims Killy- because how dare Killy actually help Milah leave him & Bae, then taunts him before poofing away.

The only ones I felt sorry for in all that was little Bae (for Milah leaving him & Rumple lying to him) & Hook/Killy- for having his love murdered, for being maimed & taunted for doing what in this day & age, is essentially allowing a women the right to choose her own happiness over living how & as her husband insists she live.

Compare that to the actual “big bad” villains- Rumple’s & Regina’s (& even Cora, Pan & WW) introductions & there is no comparison- we had to wait many episodes to find out what turned them “evil”, so we could feel sorry for them/understand them better etc. But with Hook it was clearly laid out for us before he even became the bad guy “Hook”.

For Rumple I totally understood his reasons for becoming the Dark One. After he became the DO but before Bae left I never really understood why he did what he did. I assumed he was either 1. corrupted with the idea of being all powerful after being so meek and treated as such his whole life shown and/or 2. the darkness of the DO power corrupted him mentally to turn him “evil”. Then after Bae left he reaches absolute low and is willing to sacrifice anyone/anything in order to reach Bae again. Though at this point his goal is noble to a degree the ends do not justify the means.

Regina never made sense to me at all. I get that Snow told her secret but she was a young girl and had good intentions. Cora totally manipulated her and ultimately was the one who killed Daniel. I always felt her extreme anger was very misplaced and of course she killed a lot of innocent people and hurt many others in order to get to Snow.

I find though that OUAT characters interpret/respond to actions a lot differently then I think “normal” people would. Like with the Cora/Eva thing. Eva may not have had pure/good intentions but Cora was doing a bad thing (lying and stealing) and personally I would have told Leopold too. Eva might have enjoyed Cora’s downfall more than she should but I didn’t think it was a *bad* guy thing to do. So Emma’s “I thought our family were the good guys” seemed a little extreme though I understand the purpose was to demonstrate that nothing is black and white and there is a lot of gray. That further fosters the idea of redemption for those on the darker side of gray.

I never truly saw Hook as a villain. He was always an anti-hero to me. He did some bad things but never to the scale of the other villains on the show. At any rate if both Regina and Rumple can be redeemed than Hook certainly can be.

The main similarity I see between Spike and Hook is that both of them are very driven by love. Spike killed people for fun b/c he was a vampire. Obviously Hook isn’t that evil lol.

Really liked this fic about Killian/Emma in 3×20 based off promo and interview

I totally agree with you Lumee…. although I cant really comment on the whole Spike thing (other than parrot what Jane said), as I never watched Buffy lol

HAHA! Callmelola, Sean is really awesome isnt he…. I truly thin we are blessed by the actors & actresses on this show- such a wonderful bunch of people- I love their teasing & joking around & the fact they are so human.

I think one of my fav “Once” vids on youtube is this

really shows the comradery between them… & I LOVE how JMo & MRJ reactions to Colin being a total geek when it comes to the geeks & posers game lol (you can see just how comfortable JMo & Colin are with each other.)

@surayya Yes, it’s great to see the whole OUAT cast getting along so well. Their camaraderie totally translates on screen.

BTW, I LOVED Spuffy.  Spike was the total package of badass, lover and psychoanalyzing sidekick. I was bummed that Buffy’s half-assed “I love you” (spoiler alert) at series end fell flat, because Spike was perfect for her.  Spike started out as a decent guy who became evil due to circumstances (vampire) but his love for Buffy made him want to be a better man. He ended up a hero (sound familiar?) And hey, like the Saviour, the Slayer never got a day off either. Since she is such a Spike fan, I’m really hoping Jane will fight for Emma to have a happy  ending with Killian, the kind that Buffy never got to have.
