If one is to engage with the primordial forces of darkness, one must expect a little social awkwardness
I’m going to say something that is “out of character” for me. I’m also really tired of not being able to gush over Hook and CS the way I want to, whenever I want to just like the SF fans have ALWAYS done EVERYWHERE on this site. I’m not talking about bashing a character or a ship – I have no need to do that. But if we want to squee about Hook and CS in ANY thread (accept the other shipping threads) OR the chat, we should be able to.
The cold, hard reality is that Neal is DEAD. A and E have confirmed that he is dead and he is NOT coming back unless we see him in flashback. So, honestly we should no longer have to worry about not feeling free to talk about Hook or CS in the chat. The SF fans are gonna HAVE to get used to that because their ship no longer exists – there isn’t going to be any new material for them to talk about. So really what they are doing now is walking down memory lane, bemoaning what they believe “should have been”, or coming up with theories that will never happen because the character they are theorizing about is no longer on the show.
I think the forums and chat should be focused on what is actually HAPPENING on the show in a positive way. Guys, that means we should no longer be worried about speaking up and talking about Hook and CS or anything else we want to talk about. We just need to continue to be polite and respectful, but that does NOT mean we have to continue to walk on eggshells – there is a big difference.
I also think this hiatus will help us out. Hopefully the SF folks will have time to get through their grief and the people who are really struggling can decide whether or not they want to continue to watch the show next season. Personally, although I hate to have the show lose viewers, I do wish some people would stop watching. I’m tired of having to listen to people constantly criticize A and E and/or complain about every little thing that happens on the show. It seems like the trend of the moment is to jump on everything that happens and scream “inconsistent”, “out of character”, or “unbelievable.” It’s a freakin’ fictional television show about fairy tale characters who actually exist in real life – I don’t watch it expecting a documentary. I hope that the hiatus will help people remember that the show is really supposed to be entertaining, and if it is no longer entertaining them then they should stop watching. I hope it will help the SF fans get the closure they need so they can come back next season ready to look forward instead of back.
But most importantly I hope it allows us CS fans to regroup and get the confidence to post and chat whenever and wherever we want.

The fan service argument used to drive me up a wall, especially since RumBelle is clearly the ship that was created because of the popularity with the fans. Hook was made a regular before his first episode even aired unlike Emile.
The argument that bugs me right now is that Neal died to make way for CS. That I don’t get. All Emma has to do is make a choice and that is the ship that sails. If A&E want CS, Neal wasn’t going to stop that. If any story required the death of Neal, its Rumple’s and Rumbelle’s arc. It is the only way to keep Rumple interesting and hopefully breathe some life into Rumbelle as Belle will finally have to truly acknowledge Rumple’s dark side.

Regarding any rampant Hook-hate chat and mean arsed disregard shown many members of this forum by any other posters wallowing in denial and self-indulgent whining, I am reminded of something written by a far superior wordsmith and supreme story teller:

Yeah I think things will be better after the hiatus has started and shippers whose ship has been sunk will figure out if they want to stay on. I’m not gonna walk on egg shells anymore the ships that are here I’m happy about them and I’m gonna celebrate them! We’re getting a two hour long CS movie this Sunday everyone! We should be happy! Very happy! The first toe hour episode of Once has OUR ship at the center of it! Some fans have been upset about the show saying those sorts of things about things being against canon or OOC I haven’t seen anything more out of the ordinary than before and there hasn’t been anything that’s happened that I don’t see a quick show explanation for! I’m always going to try & be respectful but I’m not gonna go around and not be happy or censor myself when something big is happening with my OTP. I’m so happy for where the show is going so much of what is going on has me excited!
So is anyone else going to venture into the chat on Sunday, then? I am always there, but I am often silent because I feel like only CS fan there. If more of us show up we can feel comfortable chatting together and saying positive things and/or venting frustrations about what is going with our own ship during the show. I have noticed during the two or three times during this past season that the chat has had several CS folks on at once that SF seem to be overwhelmed and they aren’t quite sure what do since they aren’t used to it and they tend to either leave the chat or they are much less chatty. Not that I want them to feel like they need to do either of those things but when the prior options have been Hook bashing and dominating the conversation with SF, they tend to become very quiet at least.
I feel like since it appears that this Sunday seems to be Captain Swan: The Movie – we should be allowed to feel comfortable gathering in the chat together to have fun as a ship chatting about what is going on without having to worry about self-censoring ourselves for once. As long as we are polite and respectful (and really I don’t see why there would be any reason for us not to be – there is no longer any other person vying for Emma’s affections, so if CS doesn’t end up together by the end of the episode it’s because they have decided to drag it out into Season 4 not because they want people to think she might end up with Neal) we should all plan on having fun together during this 2 hour “epic” movie.
Please, please, please??? It would be so much fun. Like going to the movie you have been dying to see on opening night at midnight with a dozen of your closest friends!!!

I wonder if we could arrange a time before or/& after the show to catch up in chat as a group, as I’m sure those who watch on TV also have different time zones to take into account?
I’d really love to take part in a live chat session though…will have to see if I can figure something out…. OH, wait! I might be able to use my old laptop!!!!!! I can hook my sony laptop up to the big screen TV to stream (since I cant stream outside of NZ off of it :/ ) the show & chat off of my old laptop while watching (means finding it & pulling it out of retirement this weekend to re-figure out windows 7 again lol- but that’ll be easier than trying to figure out away to have 2 windows running side by side on windows 8 lol)

If there are other CS shipper in chat I will join in- if we cant be there around the same time, I probably will stay away- since I HATE the negativity & find it hard to not get abrupt & annoyed when I’m all excited for what’s happened & just want to celebrate, yet see people poo-pooing our Ship or Pirate.

I rarely venture into the chat anymore, except for maybe when there’s a bunch of online at the same time. Captain Swan chat on tumblr is great. It would be awesome if we could all hang out there one day and just talk with each other, because I would like to chat with you guys about the episode.
Neal died 5-6 episodes ago. When that happened, if I made any posts about it, I stayed clear of SF and generally posted here but yeah, I know what you guys mean. There are some people (not naming who), where I see them in the post, it turns me off right away and I just stay clear. I don’t understand fans either, who are so unhappy with the show but whine about how unhappy they are to other people. It creates a toxic and unhealthy environment, IMO.
But know, the CS chat on tumblr is always available.
Hook bashing has been upgraded to an Olympic sport on this forum. The toxic attitude is getting old. It’s sad really, because back in the dark ages when I started lurking here it was for the show not for the ships and disagreeing on something was actually fun because some great discussions/theories came out of there.
Have I told you guys lately that you all ROCK!!!!! Thanks for keeping the sanity and CS thrills going around here.
Maybe we can get some CS lurkers to come out and just say HI so we know you’re there. 🙂
I’ve only been around here for a couple weeks (hello, by the way!) and I’m not really game to comment much outside this thread (and I haven’t been game to venture into the chat) I just didn’t get all the Hook hate. It’s amazing. A lot of the time I wonder if I’m even watching the same show. I obviously have a soft spot for the pirate, but I don’t have a hate-on for anyone else. I don’t see the same vitriol directed at any other character either (unless I’m not looking hard enough) and I don’t understand why he causes such a negative reaction. Seriously, what has he done? I agree with rumplegoldfan – it’s just a TV show about fairytale characters and they can act any way the writers want them to act.
I’d love to chat live during the episode and this week will be a doozy for the CSers, alas I am stuck at work when the episode airs *sadface*
