If you haven’t seen episode 2-10 “The Outsider” don’t read! I am not really sure where to post this theory though.
Ok, so true love's kiss isn't going to work on Belle. She doesn't remember who she really is let alone that she loves Rumple. Since she doesn't remember, she doesn't love him back.
The town was looking for fairy dust to save Sneezy but Blue Fairy said she needed her wand. Rumple is going to have swallow his pride and ask the Blue Fairy for help. Then he will have to give up some of his powers by giving up the wand he got from killing Cinderella's fairy godmother.
It'll be the first time he chooses someone else over his power.

It would be the perfect opportunity to find out Mr Gold’s first name. Belle has to love Rumple for True love kiss to work. Because she can’t remember him or herself, she doesn’t love him. Charming and Snow went through something similar when Snow drank the potion to forget Charming.
Something could jump start Belle’s memory again. Perhaps an interaction with Regina? What Regina did to Belle wouldn’t be something that could be forgotten ever. Whilst Belle may not be able to conciously remember what Regina did to her, it will still be in her unconcious. Perhaps Belle’s nightmares are her memories.
Also Emma may have a role to play in helping Belle remember. It worked for Graham.

January 14, 2013 at 9:03 pm #168311NobodyParticipantI think it’s going to take a lot more than Rumple getting Belle to fall in love with him again because the potion Snow took just erased PC from her memory and the barrier spell erased Belle’s entire identity.
Plus, let’s think about how Rumple would try and get Belle to fall in love with him again….”Once upon a time, I held you captive and for some weird Stockholmish reason you fell for me and I fell for you. But I wouldn’t give up my power to be with you. I murdered my first wife, let my son go to a whole new world alone because I wouldn’t give up my power, and I have destroyed and manipulated people for centuries trying to get back to him. Oh, yeah, you’ve been held prisoner for a few decades, almost killed a few times, and finally shot because of your association with me. And no one would vouch for me as a good man because the only one that saw any good in me was you.”
Their whole relationship is a “guess you had to be there” story…lol! I just think Rumple is going to have to make a huge sacrifice to get Belle back. Sucking up to Blue Fairy and giving up his wand and some of his power with it would be the biggest sacrifice he could make besides his life which I don’t see happening because if he dies the show dies.

So where Belle can believe in the goodness of people and see Rumple’s is a good man despite all that he has done, her storybrooke counterpart might not be able to make that leap.

We don’t entirely understand how this line erases memory. It could just be how the world is. We don’t 100% know it’s a spell or a curse. Plus if it was that easy then Snowing would’ve cured the whole curse ages ago when David and Mary Margaret had their ‘affair’ of sorts right?
I do like the whole swallowing his pride and giving the wand to the blue fairy. That has been his possession and for him to maybe give up the wand will show he’s really changing and that he truly loves Belle. I’m hoping for this because he needs Belle back!

Not true, not in the slightest.
January 14, 2013 at 10:05 pm #168318NobodyParticipantMaybe not all of the residences…Mr. Gold was still pretty close to the same, Blue Fairy was too, Grumpy was already the opposite from Dreamy so why change that…But a majority of the main characters were very very different from their original selves.
Prince Charming is brave and loyal….David was a cheating wuss. Snow was a strong fierce woman…Mary Margaret was a weak doormat. Jiminy was a conscience and followed his heart…Archie was not being true to himself but being run over by Regina. The Huntsman was sensitive and Graham felt nothing. Red was pretty obedient and tried to be helpful to her granny….Ruby went out of her way to be difficult.
So there is actually a lot of evidence that points that many of them were the opposite of their true self. It was part of the curse to destroy their happiness.
January 14, 2013 at 10:14 pm #168320PriceofMagicParticipantWas Belle given a Storybrooke identity? Regina kept her locked up so it wasn’t like anyone was meant to see her. If anyone did ask, the fact that Belle didn’t know her own identity could be a reason why Regina said she was locked up. If Regina had no intention of releasing Belle, why bother giving her an identity?

Keeper of FelixJanuary 14, 2013 at 10:18 pm #168322NobodyParticipantRegina seemed pretty thorough in her planning of the identities…Mr. Gold even made requests about being rich. I personally doubt Regina wouldn’t give one to Belle especially if she planned on using her later. What kind or how detailed it is I don’t know but even David in a coma had memories of his storybrooke life. Maybe since Belle was all about experiencing life Storybrooke Belle is all about living in her own mind….
