I agree that not all the Storybrooke personalities were completely opposite of their fairytale selves. Snow and Charming as David and Mary Margaret were probably the most opposite because Regina had a grudge against them.
Leroy was still grumpy. If he was opposite he should have been more like dreamy.
Archie was the town psychiatrist. It was his job to help people just like Jiminy as a conscience.
Mr Gold was still feared by everybody just like Rumple was. If he was opposite he should have been a priest or some other sort of do gooder. The dark one as a do gooder would definitely be an opposite. Also Mr Gold hated the nuns just like Rumple hated the fairies. It could be that some personality traits and some emotions such as true love are so deeply ingrained into each person’s identity that even the dark curse couldn’t get rid of them completely.
Anyway wasn’t there an interview or something that said that MM was basically what Snow would have been like had she not had to fend for herself in the wild and had continued with her princess life?

You got me thinking, if your theory plays out, and Rumple does choose someone (Belle) over his power, for the first time, I wonder if that will affect his Dark One status…..like the kiss shared between him and Belle did in Skin Deep?
And/or how will Belle feel knowing he chose her over power, which would be opposite of his actions in Skin Deep.
January 17, 2013 at 8:57 pm #168866MyrilParticipantIf I hear or read someone saying, the persona of a character in Storybrooke is the opposite of what he or she was in the Enchtanted Forest, than I would expect Mary Margaret to be more of a spoiled former wannabe beauty queen, who probably would hate teaching children and blames live for not letting her get a better job. Charming would perhaps be casanova of Storybrooke, Red would be some wallflower and her Granny some bitter old widow, the scare of all kids in town. But that is not what they are or ever have been.
Guess some would disagree with my perception and resulting images. Can live with that.
My point is, there seems to be some different understanding here what opposite persona means. For me for example it’s a huge difference, if characters show some different and even opposite traits or if they have an opposite persona. Opposite persona in case of Mary Margarete / Snow would mean for me far more than what we’ve seen on the show, her turning into a very selfish and angry, bitter person. But we saw a person, who lost her resolutness maybe, her positive determination, but she was still basically some nice and caring person -and not just starting with Emma coming to town. Although there is some speculation of Snow White having been very different as child at first.
So I too think, AngieBelle described it well, what the curse did to them.
We got only a glimpse of Dark cursed Storybrooke Belle. What I found interesting when watching the first season final was, that she didn’t freak out when Jefferson told her to leave the cell and go look for Mr. Gold. She didn’t knew, who Jefferson was. nor had she any reason to trust him, but she followed his instructions. Jefferson didn’t tell her exactly how to find Mr Gold, but Belle found her way to his shop nevertheless. Not sure what to make of that. Could have been the curse weakening, so that she had already a bit of her courage back. But makes me wonder, how she will react now.
Guess she will be a very lost woman.

January 17, 2013 at 9:19 pm #168870TheGoldenKeyParticipantCan we all please stop jacking this thread? It seems to be the first thread Kellyn has ever posted herself. Not very gracious of us to keep arguing with her about a minor point, especially when she has provided links where we hear it directly from the creators mouths that SB characters were opposites and that was part of the curse. Point, Game and Match in my books. I would suggest EvilQueen, perhaps starting a thread of your own if you feel so strongly about the subject and let’s move on with the actual subject of this thread.
Back to Kellyn’s original question: How do we feel about the idea of Rumple having to go to Blue to get her assistance, by means of her wand, in order to help Belle recover her memory?

But they did NOT say that. Just saying.
As for Belle, what if this is the part where Rumple supposedly kisses Cora? She’s obviously powerful and traveled through the worlds and all that… Perhaps she has dealt with that kid of memory loss already and knows what to do? Rumplestiltskin could easily strike a deal with her in exchange for something on Regina?
I don’t think he will go to Blue. The wand seems to be too much of an asset, he went into a lot of trouble to get it. Yes, he used it before already but we don’t know if this was the use he intended for originally. The wand might still come handy when looking for Bae and we know he’s more important to Gold than Belle. Perhaps he will, when he comes back from his quest? He knows she will be safe in Charmings’ hands.

He did seem pretty gut wrenched when he told Hook “what you’ve done cannot be undone”. Though I’m not sure he’d sacrifice his powers just yet, at least not until he finds Bae.
I do have to ask though. What about his wand that he got from Cinder’s FG? He used that to take all the fairy dust out of the mines. Could he not just use his if they are able to find more dust? As well, were the mines completely drained in SB? If so, would the dwarfs be able to port back to the EF and collect some there? It seems to open up so many questions and options.

I think he doesn’t know how to. He was pretty confident in saying this cannot be undone so my guess he has no idea that Blue might be able to use the wand for help.
As for the mines, I don’t think all the crystals were removed. In the Cricket Game, when the Charmings were plotting how to imprison Regina, they clearly said that the dwarves “were processing a new batch”. True, it was used later on by Blue but perhaps there is a lot more in the mines, they just have to keep digging?
January 17, 2013 at 11:25 pm #168894MyrilParticipantDoubt even the Blue Fairy knows how to. Don’t remember the Blue Fairy saying, that she would need her wand to help Sneezy. Only remember the dwarfs telling Sneezy / Clark, that they are going to mine for fairy dust to get back what he lost, his memory. Since then there was no more talk about how to get Sneezy’s memory back. And regaining the memory wasn’t high on the to-do-list (but don’t remember all lines of all episodes by heart yet 😉 so maybe someone can tell when she said it?)
So I’m not sure, if the Blue Fairy can help, or already knows how to help if, but it’s the best hope they have so far. Don’t think she necessarily will need the wand though if, but fairy dust for sure.
Rumple won’t just have to swallow his pride, but in this case get over his hate and deep going distrust. It was the Blue Fairy who gave his son the bean, he accused her that she took his son away. So if the Blue Fairy can offer help, Rumple will have to overcome way more than his pride.
The Dark One is very powerful anyway, don’t think that giving up a fairy wand would diminish his powers significantly, the wand is more of a tool, very useful but not essential to Rumple. Not saying he would like to give it up, particular not in this world, where magic works differently, but don’t see it as such a big asset (all the effort he put into getting it was helping King Georg a second time, and doubt that was the plan for all he did for and with King Georg in the first place, more of an opportunity he made good use of).
Asking the Blue Fairy for help is pretty much the very last thing Rumple would do IMO, when he has no other choice. He sounded very desperate right after Belle lost her self, right, but that was in the moment of shock. Remember how he yelled at the Blue Fairy after Bae was gone. But than he came up with the idea of a curse to go after Belle. Might be the same here. Rumple will start to think of something and try whatever is in his powers before trusting the Blue Fairy.
I though do like the idea, that he would have to make a choice again: his power or love.

January 18, 2013 at 12:33 am #168898TheGoldenKeyParticipantHere’s a spoiler interview and K&H had something to say about it.
What’s in store for Rumplestiltskin (Robert Carlyle) and Belle (Emilie de Ravin)?
EDWARD KITSIS: You’re going to actually see a lot of Rumple and Belle, coming up. The second half of the season, he’s going to collect that favor from Emma (Jennifer Morrison) and he’s going to go in search of his son. He and Belle are definitely going to face challenges. What’s interesting is that you’re also going to see Rumple change for her. As we all know, sometimes that’s hard.
HOROWITZ: And Belle is going to find new obstacles and challenges.
Way to go Rumple!
