Rumple’s awake! Sooner than a lot of us expected. What do you think of Emma’s plan for Rumple now that she’s got him awake and his heart is a blank slate?

    Can Rumple be a hero?

Rumple cannot be a hero if he is still a coward…it’s going to be interesting to see the former Dark One powerless.

Okay, so to wake Rumple they needed something he touched before he became the Dark One.

So here is a major plot hole. To do the healing spell, Belle said, “I need an object that touched him as a man. Before he became the Dark one.” She can’t find anything in the place. But she does know an object! Bae’s baby shawl. She knows that Rumple kept it from when Bae was a baby and he even used it to leave town to find his son. There is also his ball on the shelf and his spinning wheel.

But can’t have Belle actually waking him up. Have to have Emma use Hook’s sword to do the job. Heck, even Emma knew about the shawl, too.

    *sigh*

My question is why will Rumpel obey her? Whats he getting out of it? He may not be the dark one but surely he’ll still have magic. What can Emma offer him? The chance to be a hero? He can do that by not helping her do her little evil goal of snuffing out the light.

I really don’t know if I am just being really cynical tonight or if this episode was just THAT bad for me to have all this hate for it.

Real-Rumpel and head-Rumpel (“The Dark Ones were created by man…”) have a plan to get the power back from Emma now that Rumpel has been resurrected in a healthy body. But as real-Rumpel learns to think for himself…

I think it’ll end up having something to do with Rumple sacrificing himself. Let’s not forget that in this ep we also had Arthur coaxing that Griff guy into committing suicide by promising that he’ll be a hero in doing so. Rumple’s a coward again now. Rumple ran away from a situation that pretty much guaranteed getting killed when he fled the war. Emma’s gonna convince him that he can finally be a brave hero by dying.

God forbid they acknowledge that one guy who died that time. Not even a, “I don’t know what happened to Bae’s shawl, if only I could find it, it’d work perfectly.” If they’d established that not even Belle knew where it was, I could even fanwank that it wasn’t an option for Emma either, because maybe she couldn’t just conjure up an object that no one knows the whereabouts of. Then they could have still gone off on their sword tangent, without having this glaring hole. *SIGH*

Thus far parts of this season are recycled plots from previous seasons, so yeah…why not bring up S3A ending and do it again. They’ve already set it up with what you said and the fact that Arthur apparently wants to make SB the new Camelot (like Pan wanting to make SB the new Neverland)

I so very much hope that they are going to come up with something more creative than having Rumple sacrificing himself again — but who knows. It would be interesting, however, so see Human!Rumple and DO!Rumple have an opportunity for confrontation, and have Human!Rumple finally have a go at overcoming his own darkness, as he helps Emma overcome the DO. Sadly I have zero faith in that happening, since Rumple’s story arc has been methodically train wrecked since he died a hero in S3 — I think it’s quite likely they we will see more “I want my power back” type of writing.

Also, as everyone here said, the cutlass thing is just another example of writing Neal out of the history of the show. But seriously, could we have had another artifact, instead of Hook’s cutlass? This is just another symptom of Rumple’s story being rewritten with Hook at the center of it, rather than Neal. Bleagh.

Another example of this is what they seem to be setting up with Zelena — Regina going EQ for no discernible reason is probably only there to push Zelena, the expecting mother, to the brink to avoid being separated from her child. It’s a recycling of Mal and Lily’s story, I suspect, and a cheap way to make Zelena seem more sympathetic. #tried trope
