I’m headcanoning for my own sanity that Bae’s shawl was either buried with him or Rumple locked it up in the safe with a spell Belle cannot break.

But I agree with the rest of you guys when I’m not desperately trying to make things make sense.

Let’s be real. The actual reason Bae’s shawl wasn’t used is because Baelfire was written out of the show in favor of Hook.

I doubt it. I think it was all for the bait-and-switch right before Emma revived Rumpel. The show needs to gather dramatic momentum; I think it’s better for the showrunners to work with what they have here and now than to dwell on favourite things from the past.

I’m going to have to politely ask that any Hook vs Neal/Baelfire stuff be kept out of this thread for the sake of everyone’s sanity. Especially when it’s claiming that your opinion is fact within neutral grounds. Such arguments never lead to anything, as everyone’s entitled to their own opinion on the matter.

They definitely have to choose their focus, but my favorite moments are when the continuity is beautiful and the callbacks feel natural. That’s when the world feels real and the characters alive.

This is a mistaken that could have easily been fixed.

I mean Hook could have said the sword actually belonged to Rumpel and that Mila took it when she was ran away for protection and kept it ever since. Sure, it’s a bit wordy, but it beats a plot hole.

It’s just a shame Baelfire, Rumple’s very raison d’être for 3 seasons, has been forgotten by the writers. It should’ve been the shawl instead of the cutlass that woke up Rumple.

    The symbolism is perfect!

But also still 100% made up. That’s the problem. Fans shouldn’t have to fanfiction their way through glaring plot holes, inconsistencies, and OOC moments like this (Belle not knowing about the shawl), especially when there are other–and frankly, more poetic given the entire breadth of the series–solutions.

It’s about the show runners being too lazy to double check their work (seriously, did no one on the staff think to WATCH the Crocodile again???)  while simultaneously and *very* deliberately forgetting one of the founding paradigms of their show which was the father/son relationship of Rumplestiltskin and Baelfire which was muddled and heartbreaing and angst filled specifically because of the Dark One’s Curse.
