And of course, it’s all a matter of opinion. For every person I’ve seen become cynical about the show, I know another passionate fan who loved it and thought it was handled just fine- people whose opinions I also respect who are eloquent writers. I still think the show is very well written for the most part, and so do many others. It’s not perfect, of course, but nothing ever is. It’s all a matter of perspective. I have friends who thought Rumple’s speech at Neal’s grave was beautiful. Not everyone feels that they are failing. To be honest, claiming they have a lack of effort bugs me as I think it’s unfair to the writers who devote a good chunk of their lives to creating this show whether we like the end result or not. It sounds cocky- like saying “I could do better than that” when writing for tv is not an easy task at all. We have no idea what the writers actually went through.
I didn’t feel Neal was just there. I liked him, and I wanted him with Emma. I loved when he and Rumple finally made amends. (I do agree we missed a lot of emotional beats I would have liked to have seen though- but that seems to be a downfall for the show in general- they often have too much going on plot-wise to hit all the right emotional notes.)
I don’t think Robin looks like a jerk at all. I think he looks like a man who honors his word. Remember, he isn’t from our world. He’s from a world of honor and chivalry and no divorce. He isn’t going to just dump Marian to go back to Regina- now *that* would be a jerky thing to do. Poor Marian is so confused. She has no idea what’s happened, and Robin was very much in love with her when she was alive originally. Look at it from Marian’s perspective.
Misery loves company- I totally understand the need to vent and to be around others who agree with you. It works the other way too- when you are happy and excited about something, you want to share. I’ve had it happen several times when I’ve just watched a new OuaT and I’m all hyped up about it, and I go online to share my enthusiasm…and everyone hated it! Talk about deflating the balloon! And I guess sometimes that makes me feel bad…like I’ve been wearing too many rose colored glasses or I’m in denial or my opinion is wrong some how. So, I am sorry if I came on too strong. I don’t mean to step on any toes or imply that you shouldn’t analyze the show at all.
[adrotate group="5"]angiebelleParticipantShe’s running on very little sleep these days- she probably isn’t thinking clearly! I’d give her a pass on this. She panicked because everyone was pressuring her. Sleep deprivation can cause you to be a little crazy.
angiebelleParticipantThe Snow sneak peek is absolutely hysterical!
“Stop saying letters!”
“I think I understand why Regina was evil!”

It’s not my place to try to change that. I guess I just don’t get that worked up over a tv show. I enjoy the ride and brush off disappointments. And no, this doesn’t mean I like *everything*- for instance, I didn’t care for the whole Dr. Frankenstein arc and wished they’d stuck to fantasy stories. I love RumBelle but fear they are taking Rumple down a path that is making Belle look like a fool for staying with him. I’m not that crazy about the idea of bringing Marian back and the odd love triangle there, but I’m open to seeing how it plays out. I’m not opposed to critique, I just prefer a balance. When you do nothing but get on a soap box, I start to wonder if you still enjoy the show at all. I think the good still far outweighs the bad. I suppose you must too or you would have given up.

You were clearly bothered by what I said or you wouldn’t have commented on it. I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to upset you or anyone else. I just miss the way it used to be around here when people weren’t always so angry with the show.
October 1, 2014 at 3:14 pm in reply to: 4 x 01 TALE OF TWO SISTERS — FAVORITE AND LEAST FAVORITE MOMENTS #283914angiebelleParticipantNo, I didn’t say you were attacking me- I meant you reacted as if I attacked you. You didn’t say I demanded you stop, but you implied it by stating you are allowed to be critical when I never said you weren’t. If you didn’t feel I was asking you to stop, then why say that? You responded as if I had insulted you. What was I supposed to think?
October 1, 2014 at 2:49 pm in reply to: 4 x 01 TALE OF TWO SISTERS — FAVORITE AND LEAST FAVORITE MOMENTS #283911angiebelleParticipantI’m allowed to have the opinion that people on here are being cynical. That’s my opinion. No where did I say you are not allowed to be critical. That’s putting word in my mouth. You’re allowed your opinion, and I’m allowed to have mine. I wasn’t being mean about it. I wasn’t demanding you stop. I was just stating how I feel. This is why I don’t post here nearly as often as I used to. I feel as if any time I disagree with a good chunk of the group, people take what I’m saying as an attack.

Maybe I’m a Little Miss Sunshine among the fandom, but I loved the episode. It was a little dry just because they were setting up the exposition, but premiere episodes are always that way. I cannot wait for them to really get going. Anna and Elsa were spot on- exactly like the film. Anna’s speech patterns were just perfect. She sounded just like Kristin Bell. Yes, it’s true that with this one they are going from classic stories come to life with nods to the Disney versions to something that is blatantly a Disney film- diverging a bit from the show’s original concept- but you know what? I don’t even care. It’s too fun- I love crossover fanfic! Unlike the other stories, Frozen is not based on an existing classic story. It’s original to Disney, and too new to really get the twisted treatment. (Yes, it is loosely inspired by The Snow Queen, but it has an entirely different plot. It’s not the same story. Unlike- say- The Little Mermaid which changed a lot about the original story but is still recognizable at the core.) The spin will be in how they fill in the gaps that the film left and just watching the Frozen characters interact with our main group.
What I loved about this episode was that we weren’t immediately thrown into another realm or having everyone face a big bad. I enjoy the show the most when we are just seeing them deal with daily life in Storybrooke. Story characters in our world is what drew me to the show in the first place- I eat that stuff up! So now we have characters fearing an unknown who is actually going to turn out to be a friend this time, and both Rumple and Regina are going to start intriguing quests of discovery. I’m so proud of Regina for backpedaling on her plan to kill Marian. She saw herself as she once was and didn’t like it- we have character growth! Yay! I do wonder how Regina came to the conclusion that finding who wrote the book is the solution though- that’s a bit random! I always thought the book was based on what really happened- not that the book *created* what happened. This will be a very interesting arc! Discovery makes for better stories than battles, IMO.
I thought Rumple’s speech at Neal’s grave was lovely, and did you catch Snow’s comment that maybe they should have named the baby Baelfire? Teehee. Poor Rumple is still a magic addict, but he means well. Yes, what he did to Belle leaves a bad taste, but I refuse to give up on them- I don’t think we will see a true happy ending for them until the end of the series. I thought the dance was beautiful, and how nice to see them have some peace before the storm we know is coming. Adam and Eddy have stated that this season is about not giving up on those you love.
angiebelleParticipantRegina with the apple is an iconic OuaT image. Granted it better represents S1, but it’s still a very cool, eye catching image. Maybe they chose it because the two halves of the season were so vastly different, they decided to go with something more symbolic of the entire series.
angiebelleParticipantNone of the issues stated about the dvd cover bother me in the least. Would I have liked Belle to be more featured or for the cover to more accurately represent the season? Sure! But I don’t feel upset over it. I bought it for the content, not the cover. To each her own.
