ParticipantI don’t like the concept of true love existing without any real connection between them, but this is pretty normal for Once. The only real puzzlement is, if True Love is so easy to come by (judging by Hook’s dad, Red ect.) why on earth did Rumple need to go to so much trouble to get a bottle of it?

ParticipantI really don’t know what EQ was talking about there. When Rumple said those shears can cut away more than savior powers I thought he was talking about cleaving himself from the darkness again. Using them on non-magical Belle makes no sense whatsoever.

ParticipantI agree that Belle is both confused and highly confusing as a character and to me she’s been that way since season 4. With Rumple I can at least make sense of why he does what he does, even if the show isn’t always good at explaining things to us. I agree with Pxlbarrel above that the reason (in my head at least) that Rumple took back the darkness was because he’d finally become a good man (or at the very least he was heading that way) and Belle rejected him immediately without giving him a chance to prove he could keep making right choices and that the dagger looked like the only thing he had left. Whether that’s the way the writers see it or not I can’t say, but in general I just don’t understand why Belle does, what she does, when she does it. Rumple as a character has I think remained fairly consistent.
Sometimes I think the show might have been better had Belle stayed locked up in Regina’s prison for a few more seasons so that the writers could keep Gold firmly in the dark/grey area they clearly enjoy writing him in without tearing the Beauty and the Beast story to ribbons just because a happy Dark One raising a bookish brood of little dark ones while occasionally helping out the heroes just to please his wife isn’t as easy to write.
And while I’m at it could they please have a little more familial interaction between Rumple/Henry/Charmings ect.? It’s so weird to me that all these people are family, they live in the same small town and never ever seem to talk to each other or have a meal together or you know care at all when their grandfather’s pregnant wife’s sleeping curse prison box is kidnapped.

ParticipantI’m glad to see other people feel the way I do about the direction the show has been going with Rumple and Belle. I’m not a regular poster here, but I do listen to several Once podcasts (including of course this one) and I’ve felt very discouraged by the general lack of empathy for Rumple on every podcast, he hardly seems to get discussed most of the time, and when he is it’s mainly negative, which could of course be my own bias showing and the show itself doesn’t give them much either. Anyway I’m happy to know I’m not the only frustrated fan out there. Thanks for the long and reasoned posts about the issue.

ParticipantI loved Belle’s line which went something like, “Sometimes the best book has the dustiest jacket; and sometimes, the best cup… is chipped.”

ParticipantI agree that Rumple lying to and deceiving Belle in such a blatant manner made me mad and seemed a bit out of character, but the whole killing Zelena thing even though everybody, including Belle, told him not too… that’s totally Rumple. It reminds me of when he cursed Regina with the pendant thing in season two.

ParticipantI liked Dorothy, I don’t think she was ‘special’ in any way (you know with magic), but she was a nice take on the character (though I missed the lion, tin-man and scarecrow).
I’d love it if they track down an older Dorothy and ask her for the silver slippers. What a great idea!

ParticipantIt’s possible Rumple thought shattering Zelena could kick start the time curse, but I think it’s far more likely he wanted to keep his last ‘deal’ with Bae. I just wish he hadn’t lied to Belle.

ParticipantI was upset that they killed Charming off to cast the curse, and while I agree that it was a bit of a cop out, I think it actually kind of romantic that they now truly share a heart. I would guess this now means if one dies (one half of the heart stops beating) then the other will as well. Like a romantic version of Chang and Eng.

ParticipantMaybe she’ll zap Zelena’s necklace into her hand, just like the coffee and Hook’s hook at Granny’s, and crush it into ash.
But the bucket of water would be hilarious (I’m sure she protected herself against that by now, just like Regina protected her heart from being controlled).
