ParticipantCan we include the Season 6 pre-season special?
If you mean Adam/Eddie saying they ‘sleep well and drink our tears’…then yes of course! All quote from or about Once should be fair game.
Granny to Ruby: I’m sorry that my heart attack interfered with your plans to sleep your way down the Eastern seaboard.

Participant>1) What was your favorite episode of S7B?
Beauty
>2) What was your least favorite episode of S7B?
As far as I can remember…Flower Child
>3) What was your favorite/least favorite moment of S7B?
I loved the ‘UP’ sequence where Rumple and Belle were living out there happy quiet lives.
Least favorite? Can I just say ‘Wish realm’ and leave it at that?
>4) We didn’t really meet any new characters in S7B but overall, which character who hadn’t appeared in S1-6 did you most enjoy? And which one did you not enjoy at all?
I loved Alice of course and I’ll give a nod to Gothel as well. Minus some of the utter silliness in ‘Flower Child’, she was actually quite entertaining as a villain.
Cinderella was my least favorite.
>5) If you could change anything about S7B what would it be?
Oh my changes would go back a lot further than 7B.
>6) Did OUAT deserve another year? Or was it right to cancel it now?
It probably would’ve been better if they’d canceled it after season three… ‘er …six.
>7) Final Grade/Ranking for S7B?
C- for plot
F for timeline clarity
B for new characters (again Alice, Gothel and to an extent Facile were great but all the Cinderella people were sub par minus maybe Ivy)

ParticipantI really wish I had time to re-watch season one again for this but for now here are a few of my favorite Once moments from memory in roughly chronological episode/time order (warning high ‘Skin Deep’ content).
Rumple’s kills Zoso and transforms into The Dark One as Zoso laughs, “I know how to recognize a desperate soul’ (which is later echoed by Rumple to Emma).
Rumple makes a deal for Belle, ‘congratulations on winning your little war!’.
Rumple’s quips/The chipped cup!
Belle falls into Rumple’s arms while trying to pull down the drapes.
Belle holding the rose that was Gaston and then she cuts off his feet (lower stem).
Rumple destroying things in the dark castle after hearing about Belle’s ‘death’ from that evil witch, Regina.
Emma arrests Mr. Gold.
Regina confronts a jailed Gold and makes him tell her his name…Rumplestiltskin!
Rumple comes to David on his farm and tells him about his twin brother. I just love that scene.
The twist reveal that Ruby/Red IS the werewolf stalking her village.
Cora’s death from Snow’s whispering ‘Cora‘ over the candle to Rumple’s sudden return to health return to heath (including the sweet phone call to amnesiac Belle) with that slightly open shirt as he stands over Cora like a boss.
The camera pan that reveals Malcolm becoming Peter Pan.
Rumple overcoming his fears to kill his father (and himself) to save the town.
The Rumbelle wedding vows!
Belle: Rumplestiltskin, this thing we have, it’s never been easy. I’ve – I’ve lost you so many times. I’ve lost you to darkness. To weakness and… And finally, to death. But now I realize – I realize that I have not spent my life losing you. I’ve spent my life finding you.Mr. Gold: Belle, when we met I wasn’t just unloved and unloving. I was an enemy of love. Love had only brought me pain. My walls were up. But you broke them down. You brought me home. You brought light into my life and chased away all the darkness. And I vow to you I will never forget the distance from who I was (places a ring on Belle’s finger) … and what I am. I owe more to you than I can ever say. How you can see the man behind the monster, I will never know.
Belle: But the monster is gone. And the man beneath him may be flawed, but we all are. And I love you for it. Sometimes the best book has the dustiest jacket. And sometimes the best tea cup is chipped.

ParticipantOh and does this mean that The Dark One is destroyed too? Cause I thought that was impossible or something. But we didn’t see any darkness escape when Wumple died and did Wumple somehow remove the darkness from Rumple when he hand-waved him mortal? That was easy. If only someone had thought to just make a wish earlier.

ParticipantI think what makes this sacrifice really work is how full circle he’s become as a character. Not only did he finally do the right thing purely for it being the right thing to do, but he did so to save the life of a person he once considered his mortal enemy. He would have obviously sacrificed himself for somebody like Belle or Baelfire in a heartbeat, but Hook? The man he hated for the longest time and even wanted to kill on a few occasions? That takes a ton of character development.
Rumple has done ‘the right thing’ many times on the show. They just kept resetting his character every time the show got renewed. He’s even died to save everyone before and I seem to recall (granted I haven’t rewatched this episode) them using that very phase last season when Rumple killed The Black Fairy to save everyone (again).
I really don’t want to be a crank about this, it just bothers me that they (the characters) always treated Rumple like he’s scum and yet he keeps helping them despite the fact he’s got some kind of demon living in his body. And now that he’s dead they suddenly care? It spoils what could have been a beautiful moment between him and Regina when they never had a positive relationship before he died.

ParticipantYes. But I also laughed and believe me I needed a laugh at that point. It’s completely stupid of course and basically just the writers poking fun at us for being obsessed with a plot line they dropped years ago. But it was still funny.

ParticipantI liked the parallel between how he lost Bae and seeing Nook desperately holding onto Alice, but they really needed to hit the emotional beat better with a few brief flashes from the scene where he lost Baelfire intercut with the Nook/Alice drama and some good slowmo Rumple faces to make the emotion pay off better.
Well that and the big one is that it of course should’ve been Bae trying to hold onto Henry and not Nook/Alice. This show lost so much of it’s heart when they decided to kill Neal.

ParticipantI’m laughing at bit at the idea of Regina getting everyone to form a line so that she could rip out everybody’s hearts in turn, nip off a little (presumably nonessential) piece and shove it back in before yelling NEXT! …about 10,000 times. Maybe she Zelena and Emma (while Hook watches the baby) each took a realm and split up the work. Was there anyone else in town who had this whole heart yanking thing down?

ParticipantHonestly I was underwhelmed by that finale. It focused way to much on Regina for starters and it all just felt flat to me.
LIKED
The opening where Alice and Robin were chased out by some of our beloved background characters (background after season one/two anyway).
The Lily’s father question is finally answered in the most random way possible!
Hook’s pink hook-stopper (or whatever you’d call it) was cute.
I enjoyed watching shady Blue Fairy (Wish Blue?) get sucked into a black hole.
Cinderella and Lucy had practically no lines!
MURKY
It was actually kind of sweet when Rumple called Nook his best friend (after Nook asked why he’d never killed him… um cause you ain’t his real nemesis Mr. Nooky not Hooky). Yet more sadness for Rumple that his ‘best friend’ is a guy created by a wish who mainly spent time with him while he was cursed.
The uniting of all the lands. Ok fine whatever.
DISLIKED
Not enough Emma. Too much Regina.
As usual far too much hand waving over important plot points like how Rumple is suddenly mortal.
Beating Wumple was too shabbily explained. Plus we didn’t get nearly enough of him for my taste or enough of our Rumple either.
No Bae in the ‘afterlife’! All we got was a quick flash of him dead to rub it in once last time.
No Henry and Rumple family scene. There were two Rumples and at least two Henrys running around and not once did we hear him call Rumple Grandpa that I heard. I think he looked sort of sad when he died. I guess that’s something.

ParticipantWell, the very premise of the show was ruined for Hook. That is probably going to continue right til the end. This is definitely one of those moments where if it was Bae and Henry it would make way more sense. The wish realm really is a complete mess.
Absolutely!
