ParticipantI’m from PA and the only thing that stands out about Carlisle, PA is that it’s a stop along the turnpike. 😆 It’s more known for Dickinson College and the town where Jim Thorpe (hugely decorated Native American athlete and Olympian) went to college. Didn’t know anything about the War College.

ParticipantIt’s interesting to hear everyone’s opinions. It never entered my mind that Regina and Leopold didn’t sleep together. Royalty, the aristocracy, and other well-to-do couples have a history of separate bedrooms. I saw nothing off about that. Marital relations was a duty that a wife was supposed to perform. Maybe not regularly, but I never imagined Leopold didn’t visit Regina sometimes.
All the signs point to her being barren. She was married for a number of years in a time when birth control wasn’t probably used, and she was royalty and probably expected to bear a child. Also, like has been mentioned above, although she couldn’t get pregnant because of the curse and time standing still in Storybrooke, when Emma decided to stay time started moving. So there is a possibility of women getting pregnant because time was moving. Yet Regina didn’t, whether the result of birth control or her infertility.
She also has a history of being obsessed with children. She wanted Hansel and Gretel to stay with her and when they wouldn’t she banished their father to the unending forest. She tried to take Owen and when he didn’t want her she kidnapped his dad. That’s not a good pattern. You want what you can’t have. If she’s unable to bear children, she’s probably obsessed with it. The fact that Snow and Charming were able to conceive so quickly was probably just another twist of the knife from her perspective.

I bet it has something to do with her grandmother. Maybe she was raised by her, and something bad happened to her. Which begs the question, what happened to her parents?
I’m thinking the grandmother was Cinderella’s godmother that Rumple killed. I was rewatching “The Queen of Hearts and in the mines when Gold is stealing the diamonds, he says something interesting:
Regina: How much do we need?
Mr. Gold: All of it.
Regina: How are we going to do that?
Mr. Gold: With a little help from a fairy. Dead One. Believe me, no one mourns her.
That little comment and how he added it just stood out. It might not mean anything, but I’m thinking it does. I got a tingly feeling hearing him say those words. I always hoped we’d eventually find out more about Cinderella’s fairy godmother and why Rumple thought she was evil, so maybe now we’ll finally get our chance. Don’t quite have the logistics of how she could be Tamara’s grandmother, but there is something fishy going on.

ParticipantPeople don’t always make rational decisions, even when faced with “true love”. Rumplestiltskin pushed Belle away despite knowing that True Love’s Kiss was working. He let his insecurities and fears override his love and it cost him. Neal’s fear that Emma would never forgive him for what he did to her made him stay away after the curse was broken. Like father, like son.
But as Snowing is always fond of saying, “I will always find you,” True love will find a way. Despite the setbacks, kidnappings, and other obstacles, it seems to be true in Rumbelle’s case, too. Those of us who are SwanFire supporters hope it’s true in this case, too.
That Lonestar song is a good one, too. There are so many heartbreaking country songs that could be applied to this show. Here’s another by George Strait that would be a good Neal/Emma song with him being in Storybrooke right now
Lead On by George Strait
She said I don’t recall seeing you around here
You must be new to this town
Said I’m just passing through
But girl from the looks of you
I could see me settling down. Then she smiled and said the invitation’s open
‘Cause you look just like what I’ve been waiting on
So I said why don’t we take this matter somewhere else
And get to know this feeling that’s so strong, lead on.She said I had a love once, but he just up and left me
I said I bet it broke your heart.
I had a love once too, but I acted like a fool
Oh what I’d give to be back in her arms. Then she smiled and said the invitation’s open
‘Cause you look just like what I’ve been waiting on
So I said why don’t we take this matter somewhere else
And pick up right where everything went wrong, lead on.She said I don’t recall seeing you around here
You must be new to this town.Bolded part just screams SwanThief/SwanFire to me. These two have a lot of work to do. 😥

ParticipantSee, that’s where Neal-lovers differ from people who dislike the character. He left her and broke her heart, but the reasons behind those decisions are based on his love for her. You could see in “Manhattan” that his own heart was breaking even as he was breaking Emma’s. He knew what magic could do to a person and that the curse had to be broken at all costs. Emma was destined for a higher calling and she couldn’t acheive that destiny if he was a part of her life. So he did it in a way that would ensure that she would not come seeking him out. If she did, then she’d never break the curse.
Because of what he knew he did to her, Neal knew that Emma would never forgive him. Eddie and Adam even said that Neal thought that door was closed forever and so he moved on. Now that we know for sure that he’s Rumplestiltskin’s son, him wanting a postcard confirming when the curse was broken was his way of making sure that he did the right thing and she fulfilled her destiny. He never even entertained the possibility that they could pick up where they left off or that he’d ever see her again. You know the old saying of “if you love something, let it go.” It seems like both of the men in the Rumplestiltskin clan have lived by this adage. I think of it as him loving her so much that he set her free. However, I do think that if he’d had any inkling she was pregnant he’d have said screw the curse and the consequences and never left.
I have learned that everyone sees things in their own way, so while some people see what Neal did and think it was the ultimate sacrifice of love, others think he didn’t love her enough and abandoned her. It’s all about perspective. But I also have to admit that I’m on the flipside and I dislike Hook tremendously, so there is no way I could support a relationship with Emma. Hook is on Hook’s side and nobody elses. She seems too smart to fall for him and I’d lose a bit of respect for her if she fell for him. Hook is going to have to do some major character growth for me to ship him with anyone.
I want Emma and Neal together, but they have an awful lot of healing and growing to do before they even get to that point. Right now, I’m with KFChimera and wanting to point her in Archie’s direction. Now there is a nice man who needs someone in his life. Poor guy…give him someone to love, writers.

ParticipantI have the bad habit of assuming most of the people in chat are female, but it seems lately we’re getting a good mixture in to talk about the show. It’s great to get different perspectives on the show.

ParticipantLike Bee said, Jane, who wrote the episode, confirmed on twitter that the kingdoms are not connected. Eve could have been a contender for one of the Prince’s hands, but didn’t get him in the end. She doesn’t have to be related at all, just a visiting dignitary.

ParticipantI thought Rumple deactivated it, also, to get into the shop. We could be wrong and the Blue Fairy could be suspicious since I like to blame stuff on her, but I think it just needed to be reset like an alarm system and Gold was too weak to do it.

ParticipantOmgosh, Dark Chocolate is my downfall! How fitting Rumple/Gold’s flavor would include it. 😆
(On an off note, there is a dairy not far from me that makes homemade ice cream and has the best chocolate mud flavor in the world…dark chocolate ice cream with bits of fudge, oreos, and chocolate chips. It’s like being in chocolate ecstasy.)

ParticipantHow did I not know this thread existed and how did it make it to page three before I found it!
I think that scene of Gold standing with the dagger and the cane got almost every female watching it a little hot and bothered. We’d just seen him so vunerable between the call to Belle, his conversation with Neal and then his confrontation with Cora, that to see him like that was just…wow. Tumblr is going wild over that pic. Probably my favorite screenshot of Bobby to date. It’s like here is finally the ultimate combination of Rumplestitskin and Mr. Gold. Things are getting serious now. 😀
The first thing I remember seeing RC in was The Full Monty as a teenager with my parents. I still can’t look at garden gnomes the same way after that movie. It’s one of my top favorite movies of all time. I had a bit of a crush on him and the chubby Marc Addy in that movie. Imagine my surprise when I realized by about “The Price of Gold” that my crush on Rumple wasn’t as odd as I thought it was because I learned he was the same guy in The Full Monty and I had already had one on him as a teenager.
Crushes are unusual for me. I don’t get them often. I can only name a handful of men I find really intriguing and attractive on television or in the movies. But Robert Carlyle is definitely one of them.
