Wow, what a thought! Getting through the series to discover that Henry isn’t really Emma’s. That would be like reading the whole Harry Potter series and finding out it’s really Neville who was marked by the prophesy.

JosephineParticipantYay! I’m so excited. Really, much more excited than I should be. I literally clapped. All Rumbelle all the time. 😀

TVLine: Why did Rumple restore magic in Storybrooke?
Question: Probably a stupid question, but in the Once Upon a Time finale, did Rumple restore the magic — even if it meant empowering Regina — because he was so ticked about Belle being hidden away so long? —JoshuaAusiello: You are correct — that was a stupid question. ”His plan was set in motion long before he knew that Belle was alive,” notes exec producer Adam Horowitz. “ So all his actions in the finale were part of something else going on. When he discovers that Belle is alive and that Regina had her locked away, that’s a wrinkle in his plan and something that he must deal with in Season 2 while he also deals with whatever agenda he already has (hey, we’re not gonna spill that just yet!).”

Yesterday, I was reading that the original response to this question was changed on TV Line. I found this on multiple sites, so I take it as true, but here is the original response:
“I thought that was explicit in the episode,” consulting producer Jane Espenson responds with a laugh. “You could make a case that [bringing magic back to Storybrooke] was always part of his plan, but yeah, it was definitely a counter move based on his anger at Belle being locked away. That doesn’t mean that that’s his ultimate end; he may have had a goal beyond that.”
I wonder why they changed it. But like I said, I saw this response on a number of sites, not just this one. We’ll never really know until they address it in the episode. But like they said, Rumple/Gold has plans of plans of plans. Multiple layers criss-crossing all over.
As to why he wants a final battle, I think the answer lies in what he calls the curse…the curse to end all curses. I think he wants to honor his deal with his son. I go back to the conversations in “The Return”.
First with Regina:
Regina: You broke our deal.
Mr. Gold: I broke one deal in my life dear, and it certainly wasn’t this one.
Then with Baelfire:
Bae: Papa…if I find a way for you to get rid of the power…a way that doesn’t kill you or hurt me…would you do it?
Rumplestiltskin: It’s not possible.
Bae: If it was, would you do it? Don’t you miss how it was?
Rumplestiltskin: Are you really that unhappy, Bae? I can conjure anything you desire. Name it. What do you want?
Bae: I want my father.
Rumplestiltskin: All I want is your happiness, Bae. If you find a way, I’ll do it.
Bae: Good. The deal is struck.
Rumplestiltskin: Struck.
It’s the only deal he’s ever broken and even though we know he can break the curse with “True Love’s Kiss”, after centuries of living I don’t think he wants people like Regina to go unchecked. He wants to end all magic, eventually.

JosephineParticipantEmma knows now that Gold created the curse. He admitted it to her in this shop in the finale. I don’t think she’s going to keep that bit of information a secret.

JosephineParticipantYay! Isn’t it insane how popular this couple has become.
“Skin Deep” is airing in the UK tonight. I wonder how it went. I feel like watching it again in support. 😉

JosephineParticipantI wondered that, too, Clockwatcher. He was stuck in his house for 28 years. I haven’t rewatched the episode too closely, just parts, but I got the feeling he could only leave the house when Emma came to Storybrooke. Regina’s punishment for him was probably more cruel than Snow’s. He actually remembered his daughter and got a reminder everyday looking in the telescope, but never being able to contact her. I think that’s worse then forgetting completely.
I also wonder what else she made happen when she came to town: the clock started working, Jefferson could leave his house, August started getting sick…there has to be more we find out happened to others.

JosephineParticipantI opened my email and in my inbox was a 25% off coupon for “spinning fiber”. 😆 You know who I was obviously thinking of when I looked at that.

JosephineParticipantI like that reasoning. It’s his way of honoring her memory. After all, he did put the chipped cup upon a pedastal, literally. A kind of memorial or shrine to what was, what might have been, and what never will be.

JosephineParticipantI’d take it, but I’m missing a five minute chunk from my recording and it’s a good part where he’s smashing all the stuff in his cupboard. I did get it back up recording in time to see him smashing Moe’s body, which I find Gold markedly attractive in that scene. Not that I condone any type of violence. 😆
So it’s all yours. 😈

JosephineParticipantThis was discussed a little in the Mad Hatter thread. I don’t trust him. I know we should be grateful that he released Belle, but all I can think of is that if Regina would have given him what he wanted he would have left Belle in that basement asylum to rot. He only did it after he wanted revenge on Regina and he knew Gold was man enough to do what he himself couldn’t.
It’s funny, though, that he didn’t help Belle find Mr. Gold. He just told her to go find him. Is he afraid of Gold? Do they have a history? It’s like he doesn’t want to be anywhere near the man.
Something fishy is going on with Jefferson. I don’t quite trust him.
