ParticipantI have to say it’s really interesting seeing the artifacts in Bourgin & Burkes and linking them to future plotlines. I’ve said this a few times but JKR has said CoS is part one and HBP is part two of the same story. Looking at the inventory in the small shop in Knockturn Alley really brings that point home.
Discussion Questions:
1.Why does Lockhart grab Harry in Flourish & Blotts?
Lockhart is a fame whore. He specifically pointed out that he and Harry warranted the front page of the newspaper. His class booklist is all his own books, which even being a brilliant, experienced person in his field makes him seem a bit egotistical. Add in the fact that the majority of his fans are middle-aged witches gives him the appearance of being liked only for his looks and not his talent.
2.What you do think Mr. Malfoy and Mr. Weasley might think disgraces wizardkind?
Lucius Malfoy views anyone who doesn’t hold similar beliefs as a disgrace. From the attitude he exhibits with his son and Mr. Borgin toward Muggles and Muggleborns, you know he supports Pureblood supremacy. He criticizes his own son for allowing a Muggleborn to outperform him at Hogwarts. Arthur Weasley, although a pureblood, is looked down upon by Malfoy because of his pro-Muggle leanings in addition to his low wealthy status.
Arthur Weasley thinks Lucius is a disgrace because he knows Malfoy was a former supporter of Voldemort and still has Pro-Pureblood beliefs. Arthur works in a job he enjoys despite the low pay. He has no problem with his son being friends with a Muggleborn or a Half-Blood. From his
3.Why would Mr. Malfoy want to inspect Ginny’s books?
Lucius Malfoy seems to enjoy lording his wealth over those less fortunate. He’s making a statement by pointing out that the Weasleys can only only afford used books for their children. He’s pointing out in a public arena that they are not a family to associate or socialize with despite their connection to Harry Potter. Plus, I’ve read the book. I know he used it as a cover to slip Ginny Tom Riddle’s diary

ParticipantThe key part of this spoiler is it’s a “co-lead”. Once is an ensemble show, there are no co-leads. That points to a show with two main characters…Castle, Bones, Sleepy Hollow, Blacklist, etc.
If I were to lay money on it, I’d bet it’s Castle. She held back on signing on for another season and a lot of spoilers and blind items usually end up being Castle. They love covering that show. If it’s not Castle then it’s Bones. David Boreanaz has had some issues in the past and maybe he’s taking time off.
Whoever it is, this blind item does not refer to Once. I’m positive.

ParticipantNobody thinks of the peasants.
I joked that the final season should be Grumpy and the dwarves leading a revolt against Snowing, Regina and the other “royals”. All the background characters and ” little peolple” starting a revolution because they’re sick and tired of curses, anmesia, magic, etc.
Viva la revelucion!

Participantok I haven’t had enough coffee to properly deal with Slurpeez gif set because frankly it hurts.
(but side note y’all. I’m being lax but some of those gifs ARE spoilers….)
I can give you a kitten or two to cheer you up.

ParticipantOkay, I’m glad I’m not the only one shaking her head over a field of roses. Uhm, yeah, roses don’t grow that way. A field of wildflowers would make sense, but a field of roses? That seems as fake as the basis on which CS is based.
You know, it’s not even CS being pushed down our throats that annoys me with the show. It’s every single story line. Making Ruby the wolf was a clever twist on Red Riding Hood, having Rumple be the Beast was a nice neat way to tie his story together. But for Camelot, it’s like they got a listing of characters names in a book a one-sentence summary of their roles and totally destroyed the story. You have to at least have a semblance of the original character if you’re going to twist it and make it interesting and your own. But I see no traces of the original characters in the versions we now have. Just the names are the same.
It’s getting to be where it’s not even fun to hate watch, anymore. Even Bobby’s acting can’t save it or keep viewers at this point.

ParticipantI actually hope all the actors go on to better things. As much as I dislike Hook or Zelena or someone else, I don’t hate the actors or wish them ill. I’m also not going to judge them based on actions on Twitter and not responding to so-and-so’s tweet. How many times have we all answered questions or talked by DM on Twitter? If I were a celeb I’d really think twice (or thrice) about my interaction with friends publicly on social media. So while overall I think it’s a bit odd and suspect that the cast doesn’t interact like they did in season one or even two, I’m not going to get angry over it.
I actually think most of them might do rather well. So far Rose McIver and David Anders have iZombie, Jamie Dornan got 50s Shades, Raphael Sbarge is on Murder in the First, Joanna Garcia was on a summer show on ABC. And those are just off the top of my head. Bobby is already largely establish in theater and film and Ginny has the movie and tv credits to her background (and was the first one signed to the show and top billed). I think most of them will do just fine and may go on to bigger, and hopefully better, roles. (Or they may fall into obscurity. 😉 )
Ultimately, the outcome for me after the series is done in regards the industry is that I will no longer watch any Adam/Eddy projects. No matter how interesting it seems I can’t be jerked around like that anymore. And I bet I’m not the only one. Most of you know of my embargo on Ryan Murphy productions. He has a history of having brilliant beginnings and fizzling. We were burnt on Popular in the 90s and then Glee. I didn’t watch Nip/Tuck but I’ve read it devolved in the end, too. As much as Scream Queens sounds intriguing, his past history colors my opinion so I refuse to watch it. Yes, AHS seems to be different but it’s also a different animal–changing stories yearly but keeping the same acting company. And while I do not have a Nielsen box and my viewing habits have no impact, I can’t be the only person who feels this way.
As for Dark Swan, I can imagine it is one of the few things that they’ve always had planned. RG is correct in the monomyth. It makes sense to the story that Emma, the savior, would take on darkness and “die” during her journey. I also think Rumple will bite the dust for real. Maybe it’s reading HP and watching Harry and Dumbledore all day on the ABC Family marathon (I can’t resist) but Rumple is acting as Emma’s mentor. He always did have this weird role for Emma but now even in her Dark Swan mode, he’s literally the devil on her shoulder. At some point the savior/hero has to go forward without her mentor, aka so long Rumple.

ParticipantOkay, I know we’ve discussed this many, many times, but do you think this absolute ban on any mention of Nealfire comes from the Trolls, ABC, and/or Disney???
It’s extremely obvious now what they’re doing. It’s become a bit of a joke about how can they pretend Bae never existed. The sad thing is that most of us we’re not angry at this because of SwanFire. Neal had importance, significant importance, outside of Emma. So you erase Neal, you screw up Rumple’s story, too.
If they do go the Underword to save Hook, it will anger many Neal fans, but they really don’t care. They think we’re such a small portion of the viewing public. I’m at the point it’s not even Hook I hate, but the show runners and writers. They don’t care enough to craft a consistent story so why should I care enough to be invested in it.

ParticipantSadly I have zero faith in that happening, since Rumple’s story arc has been methodically train wrecked since he died a hero in S3 — I think it’s quite likely they we will see more “I want my power back” type of writing.
This is the biggest complaint I have of the show. So many people dismiss complaints as just ramblings of bitter shippers, but really my underlying disgust with the show is how they’ve destroyed their own story. Rumple in season one was written fantastically. Look back at Desperate Souls, Skin Deep, The Return. They all laid out this tale of this complex character. What they have done to him 3B and beyond is horrendous. His motivations, his actions, his story. They took away the heart of his story, not just killing his son off but erasing all mention of him, that they now have no idea what to do with him. They won’t even develop a relationship between him and his grandson. Season One Rumple would have moved heaven and earth if he knew Henry had been his blood, imo. Knowing his regrets about his own son, you can’t convince me that he’d distance himself from his grandson.
So for the future, I have no faith that Rumple will be written well. He hasn’t for the past season and a half, so why should they start again. My theory is that Emma will use him to pull the stone from the sword, and then he’ll once again sacrifice himself to save Emma toward the end of 5A. They can always have him come back some way in flashbacks if they want to keep Bobby on the show. But I can’t think they have any real story for Rumple other than death. Outside of being the Dark One, he’s Baelfire’s dad. They cut this last pesky tie to Nealfire and they can totally pretend that he ever existed. (Henry belongs to Regina and Emma so they can continue to ignore there and keep him).
