February 1, 2013 at 9:14 pm in reply to: Does Rumple’s Dagger Wield Any Power in Storybrooke? #171249

ParticipantI think that he still is the Dark One in name but the Curse doesn’t have the same hold in Storybrooke as it does in Enchanted Forest. If he went back to Enchanted Forest, I think he would be the dark one all the way again.
I see Rumple’s power as being layered. He had the Dark One powers when Bae was lost but Blue Fairy told him the curse was beyond his capabalites…
Blue Fairy: Well, then I’ll comfort myself knowing that such a curse is beyond your abilities.
Rumpelstiltskin: Oh, for now. But I’ve got all the time in the world. I will do nothing else, I will love nothing else. I will find a way. You took my son, but I will get him back.
So he gained new powers in order to be able to create the curse. Maybe the the powers he has right now are those extra ones that aren’t tied into the Dark One curse. So, I don’t think even with magic in Storybrooke the dagger will be able to control him.

ParticipantIt’s going to be a really good second half of the season! I am so looking forward to seeing Gold’s trip, Greg’s interactions in town, and hopefully, Belle, getting her memory back….if I have to wait until next season for Rumple and Belle to get back together I might get a little blood thirsty myself…

ParticipantTrue, I didn’t think about her leaving town….hopefully, she will confide in someone that doesn’t think murder is okay…Her dad was acting sheriff and wasn’t blood thirsty, right? I still have hopes that she will get the upper hand. Even if she doesn’t confide in anyone, I believe Dr. Whale said Greg would have a few weeks of recovery (?). So that gives Emma plenty of time to go to New York, get back, and review everything. Leaving us with glimpses of what Greg knows and is “getting away with” in the mean time…oh, the drama! 🙂

ParticipantBastian was played by Barret Oliver….wasn’t Greg’s casting call for Barrett? Hmmmm…. 😀

ParticipantSo, I was thinking about Greg being the author of the book and it reminded me of The Neverending Story. A book where the characters are real and living the plot and a little boy reading it becomes part of the plot. In our case, the author becomes a part of it….a character in his own story…I like it.

ParticipantI think that Emma saw through his lie. I think she was lying to everyone else to calm them down. They had already discussed his possible murder by not saving his life and letting him succumb to his injuries. I think Emma wants to find out who he is, what he knows, and formulate a plan. I also wouldn’t be surprised if she bugged his phone or something before she gave it back. We know they have that technology…I think the writers are setting Emma up to look foolish now and we will see her brilliance revealed later. At least, I am hoping…. 🙂

ParticipantI like to think he is truly an outsider…I think it would be an interesting twist. Not everyone has to have a storybook counterpart. I, too, thought he was a writer of some sort but I only got as far as thinking food critic. I never even considered he could be the author of the book…how cool would it be to see your characters in the flesh? I definitely think all the George Lucas/ Star Wars clues are going to be important. As always, I love how detailed you are in your research. Looking forward to seeing how this all plays out!

ParticipantI choose to not focus on details like this for this show and here’s why…In the show, the stories with all their twists and turns are the “real” versions. The stories we grew up with are the fictionalized version. How their stories made it to our world I don’t know but it’s like the game telephone…things get distorted and changed and embellished. I don’t think of it as the writers changing things as much as restoring them to how they were supposed to be. 🙂 It keeps the English/History major in me happy.

Back to Kellyn’s actual theory –
You got me thinking, if your theory plays out, and Rumple does choose someone (Belle) over his power, for the first time, I wonder if that will affect his Dark One status…..like the kiss shared between him and Belle did in Skin Deep?
And/or how will Belle feel knowing he chose her over power, which would be opposite of his actions in Skin Deep.
I think much like David almost sacrificing himself to save Snow (he took the arrow so she wouldn’t become evil like the Queen she was trying to kill), Rumple’s sacrifice of power will trigger feelings in Belle and allow her to be kissed and her memory restored if we are going true love’s kiss route but I am hoping we will see a new way to undo this curse…true love’s kiss seems to be the answer to everything and a little convenient. Let’s mix it up. 🙂
I think Rumples powers are layered. He has dark one powers and other powers that he as accumulated in addition to those. In “The Return” this is what he and the BF said:
Rumpelstiltskin: A curse?
Blue Fairy: No.
Rumpelstiltskin: Ah! So, it is a curse.
Blue Fairy: Of course you would think of a curse instead of a blessing. Your magic is limited by its own rotten core, Rumpelstiltskin. Anyway, it can’t be done. Not without a great price.
Rumpelstiltskin: I’ve already paid a great price.
Blue Fairy: So, you’d be willing to sacrifice this world for the next? Because that’s how great the price is.
Rumpelstiltskin: Well, what do you think?
Blue Fairy: Well, then I’ll comfort myself knowing that such a curse is beyond your abilities.
Rumpelstiltskin: Oh, for now. But I’ve got all the time in the world. I will do nothing else, I will love nothing else. I will find a way. You took my son, but I will get him back.

So giving up the wand may in fact mean giving up some of his powers. I personally like the idea of Rumple having to sacrifice the one thing he finds hardest to let go. I think it would prove to Bae that he has changed and prove to Belle that their love is true and means more to him than his power. I like those sentiments and think it’s about time Rumple does the brave thing.

He did seem pretty gut wrenched when he told Hook “what you’ve done cannot be undone”. Though I’m not sure he’d sacrifice his powers just yet, at least not until he finds Bae.
I do have to ask though. What about his wand that he got from Cinder’s FG? He used that to take all the fairy dust out of the mines. Could he not just use his if they are able to find more dust? As well, were the mines completely drained in SB? If so, would the dwarfs be able to port back to the EF and collect some there? It seems to open up so many questions and options.
I agree he will wait to find Bae before he makes any sacrifices for Belle. I have been wondering about his wand too. Could he use it as it is intended to be used or does his brand of magic twist it into something dark? He might not be able to use it for good as in bringing back Belle’s true identity. Hence, having to go the BF. We don’t know if the mines are completely empty or just that vein that Rumple drained. We also don’t know if the wand still has that power or if it was depleted by the curse Rumple and Regina placed on the portal…those are good questions and it does leave a lot of options…gotta love those writers and their ability to give you just enough info to drive you crazy.

My hope with this Belle situation is that they don’t fix her too quickly. They don’t need to drag it out forever either, but I’d prefer to not have it solved in the next ep, the way Archie’s disappearance was. I’d like this to be an opportunity for Rumple to take a big step in improving himself in order to win Belle back somehow. I’d also like a few eps to get to see Belle’s SB alternate persona. So no quick fixes, pretty please.
Agreed! I hope it doesn’t last multiple seasons but I would like a few episodes at least to discover Belle’s persona and to see Rumple try and win her back. And thanks for posting the link to the transcripts page! That is really handy!

I want that Rumpelstiltskin have to sacrifice something for Belle to get her memories back and I think that is a nice idea.
Me too!

Not true, not in the slightest.
I only posted those links to show that your very abrupt dismissal was wrong. But I see now that there is no point in even trying to open your mind to what doesn’t correlate with what’s already in there. Thanks for participating in my thread even though you completely ignored the whole point of why I started it to nit pick.
