ModeratorDemos for “Dreamcatcher” are in! As expected, we remain flat at a 1.6, and we actually went up in totals to 5.04 viewers. Quantico also lowered to a 1.5, meaning that OUAT is back to being ABC’s number 1 scripted show for this Sunday.

ModeratorSomething I completely forgot about. We saw a similar use of tear magic back in “The Apprentice.” Rumple empowered his dagger with Anna’s tear to break Merlin’s enchantment protecting the hat.

ModeratorInterestingly enough, that 3.2/5 is higher than last week’s 3.1/5. But I expect the actual demo rating to remain a 1.6. If so, then my theory about the majority of remaining viewers being the dedicated ones is looking more and more likely.

ModeratorSomeone suggested this idea to me. What if the casting call isn’t actually for Hades, but for Dr. Facilier from The Princess and the Frog? He does have the appearance of a Distinguished Gentleman:

Now the one thing in the casting call that does lean more towards Hades is that he’s a “God-like figure.” However, that in itself could mean that perhaps it’s not Hades, because Hades is a full on God, rather than God-like. Facilier does have his own magic via his “friends from the other side”, AKA spirits from the after life. Now chances are, this will still end up being Hades, but I felt I should at least present Facilier as another possibility. I still think we could be getting both Hades and Facilier anyway, due to Facilier’s ties to the afterlife.

ModeratorI seem to recall Regina taking a lost boy’s heart and using it for “a greater good” similar to the rationale of Emma using Violet’s heart to get Henry’s tears of lost love. In fact, I seem to recall Regina taking Belle’s heart (without Belle’s consent) just last season. So I don’t really get how Regina can say she has the moral high ground here. It’s not like Emma has crushed anyone’s heart (well, that we know of anyway). I’m not in any way making excuses for Emma, since what she did was sinister. However, the difference is that Emma is inhabited by a dark force which makes her more prone to deceive, almost against what she would otherwise have freely chosen were she not the dark one.
I think what crossed the line for Regina was more so that Henry was the victim here. Emma took advantage of Henry’s emotions and manipulated Violet into breaking his heart. Emma did this all to her own son.

ModeratorThe question for me is no longer are we getting a season 6, it’s how much of a season 6 are we getting. I think we’ll get a full order, unless S5B totally goes down hill, but I’m not sure if that will happen.
Also, any predictions for tonight? I’m going with a 1.6 for episode 505
It’s a veteran show, so I expect any final Season to be a full 22 episodes. Even if it doesn’t get the ratings it used to, the show has a lot of history with the network and the fandom itself is still fairly large and active. When I was at New York Comic Con a few weeks ago, OUAT was in the 2nd biggest panel room of the entire convention, and it ended up being a full house. We could get a shorter final Season if the writers would specifically want one, like what happened with LOST.

ModeratorI don’t understand why Emma even planned to use Henry’s tears though. I mean, she had no idea that Regina’s tears wouldn’t work. Why did she plan for it in advance? I would have understood if after taking the tear, the darkness rump showed up and told her it won’t work because such and such reason and then she decided that has to the violet heart thing and then during the ritual she “accidently” drops the bottle containing Regina’s tear and then Henry just so happens to show up at that point, wherein she takes his tear and sets merlin free.
It’s just all to convenient that this happened the way it did.
Oh I think Emma knew that Regina’s tear wouldn’t work, but she had to play dumb about it in order to keep her cover. She knew Henry would come crying to them, and she was using Regina’s tear as a distraction before hand. It was all about manipulation and timing.

ModeratorThe Futon Critic now lists 508 and 509 both airing on 11/15, which many of us believed would be the case:

ModeratorThe Futon Critic lists 508 and 509 airing as the 2 hours for 11/15, so it’s definitely not 508 being extended into 2 hours itself:

ModeratorWould you believe I actually didn’t hate this plot twist? Yes it was cruel for Emma to do so, but I just couldn’t help but enjoy how it was written and performed. Emma wants to do things for the greater good, but she’s fallen into Dark One temptations in order to do so. The Dark One has always been a master manipulator, and this was no exception. Both Rumple and Emma have justified their terrible actions as the Dark One. Dark magic on this show has always been compared to drug use. The more you experiment with dark magic, the more of an addict you become. Emma’s slipping because the more she’s tempted to use dark magic, the more necessary she thinks it is. She’s choosing what is easy instead of what is right.
