ModeratorMy question is why will Rumpel obey her? Whats he getting out of it? He may not be the dark one but surely he’ll still have magic. What can Emma offer him? The chance to be a hero? He can do that by not helping her do her little evil goal of snuffing out the light.
I really don’t know if I am just being really cynical tonight or if this episode was just THAT bad for me to have all this hate for it.

ModeratorI figure the only thing that will set Merlin free (assuming he really is in there) is the dagger. Arthurs wants the dagger. If they had gotten the toadstool, theyd have been able to spek to merlin and he’d tell them Arthur trapped him in the tree or something and Arthur doesn’t want that. What he wants is the dagger to be used to he can steal it and not actually release merlin. He went on the trip to ensure the toadstool doesn’t arrive to Camelot.
My guess is that Merlin and Arthur came at odds about how Arthur should be leading Camelot. Merlin was traditionally Arthur’s mentor and adviser. However, Arthur could have grown too arrogant and egotistical to continue to listen to Merlin.

ModeratorOne other thing. Think maybe Arthur had something to do with Merlin being trapped in that tree, and he actually doesn’t want Merlin freed? Why else would he secretly steal the toadstool from Charming, when they were planning to use it to communicate with Merlin?
MatthewPaul
ModeratorI suspect that they’ll find out about Arthur’s shadiness, when they discover Arthur’s “thief” to be missing. They’ll use the video surveillance footage and find out what Arthur did, which Arthur doesn’t know about. So Arthur could be found out not by magic, but by science!
MatthewPaul
ModeratorArthur admitted to Guinevere that he does genuinely think Charming is a good man. They clearly did bond during their little adventure. It’s just that Arthur is overly paranoid about protecting his kingdom.

ModeratorYes this is weird. Is she “in training?” Is she just editing/helping out? Is she writing something HUGE in 5B and needs to focus on that? (and if yes, then why are they giving something HUGE to the absolute newbie?)
Well I tweeted her, and got this response:
@TheMatthewPaul I'm a relatively new writer. It's not uncommon.

Looks like it’s because she’s a newbie. If I recall, wasn’t Dana Horgan involved with the writing team in Season 3, but she didn’t actually pen any episodes until Season 4? She didn’t answer which episode number she’s writing, for whatever reason. So I guess she’s mostly been taking part in the writers’ room brainstorming sessions, but hasn’t written her own episode yet.

ModeratorWow, that’s been a lot of title spoilers in such a short amount of time. 508’s was revealed on September 26th, 509’s on September 28th, and now 510’s on October 7th. Obviously 508 and 509 filming simultaneously is a factor.
Also, looks like Brigitte was correct. She is indeed not writing any of 5A’s episodes. I wonder why?

ModeratorWonder if we’re going to get more dialogue about Emma apparently not liking Happy in this episode…

ModeratorAs was the case for the previous two years, I will actually be attending the panel. I’ll see if Daniel would like to have me post teasers from the screening and a recap of the Q&A like last year.

ModeratorCora’s not exactly the most trustworthy person, and it’s only by her word that we believed him to be dead anyway.
I’d say the chances are 50/50 he’s alive.
Not to mention that Adam and Eddy have even said not to take Cora’s word for it in an interview back in Season 2. So I think they always genuinely planned for him to still be alive.
