ModeratorAs Matt noted elsewhere, one of the biggest factors for a new season is actually the actors and their contracts. If they do not want to renew their contracts–any of them–should they be up after year 5, then it’s possible the show will end because of losing big names (Bobby Carlyle, as an example).
And even when a show is doing decent ratings, it can still be in danger as a result of contract negotiations. For example, this past TV Season, Castle’s fate was initially questionable, due to lengthy contract negotiations with Nathan Fillion and Stana Katic.

ModeratorIf we were to remain absolutely steady from where we left off at the end of 4 (around a 1.8) then we’d get a sixth season, probably even a full order. But it’s going to largely depend on how far we drop (below a 1.4 would be baaaad) and what sort of half seasons the writers can pitch to ABC.
And of course there’s also the matter of actor contracts. We don’t quite know when they expire, and many of them very well could at the end of this Season. If one core actor or more choose to pursue other projects, that could put a nail in the coffin for the show.

ModeratorAs for the “is this the final season’ debate…often times TV shows don’t know that their finale season is their finale season. Some TV shows get an advanced warning but most do not. The begging people to watch, the tons of former stars (fan favorites coming back) might be an indication that the show runners/ ABC know something we do not, yet. OR it could be them trying to stem the tide and get the ratings needed to keep their boat afloat for another year. Right now, we’re not dreadful as far as ratings go, but if we continue to fall as do (and we will, nature of the beast and all that) it’s getting closer to the cancel territory.
Yep, both the network and the creators want to be able to milk what’s left of the show as long as they possibly can. Depending on how ratings go, they could give them the option for one last half Season, just to wrap up what they want to wrap up. That can happen, but it’s not always, and nor is it usually the case.

Based on this tweet and episode 507’s title, this is very likely Merlin’s centric.

I’m going to guess that Mulan will mostly be in 5B, but she’ll appear in the last few episodes of 5A to bridge into 5B.

ModeratorGuessing they would have called this episode “Lady of the Lake”, had they not already used it back in Season 2.

ModeratorJust read an ep that's going to create some very intense reactions. As scared as I am, I can't wait to hear what the fans think.
