ModeratorAs far as Hook’s involvement, I would have to guess either:
1) If this takes place in Neverland, this could be tied to whatever dirty work Pan had him do back in the day. We wouldn’t even need to see Pan, as Hook could clarify via dialogue.
or
2) This somehow ties to Hook wanting revenge on Rumple, which was still his goal during this time period.MatthewPaul
ModeratorIn regards to what could have turned people off from watching this week based on the previous episode:
1) The Scarlet Beauty reveal. There are still plenty of dedicated Rumbelle fans out there, regardless of how low the show has taken that relationship. Doesn’t help that it came out of nowhere.
2) Snow and Charming acting shady with Emma, in regards to hiding their past dealings with the Queens of Darkness. I could see this being a turn off for casuals, as this may have been viewed as out of character for quite a few.
3) The overall pace of the episode was very slow.MatthewPaul
ModeratorOUAT’s budget seriously confuses me. This is a show in which like 60% of the shots must be done Green Screen Style yet the effects are getting poorer (Dragon Mal, anyone?). But yet they brought in Michael Soccha (and not Robin?) who is pretty much getting maybe 2-5mins each episode (if that!) and has done very little in the grand scheme of things. Was it because Soccha had a contract with WL and thus was open to price negotiations? Was he a cheaper actor?
I would hate to see the CGI for this show with a further slashed CGI budget…
I am convinced they spent a lot of the budget on the Frozen half of the Season, because they knew they had to make it look decent to attract all the potential new viewers watching just for Frozen. Notice how we didn’t even get new promotional photos of the cast like we normally do this Season. The Michael Socha’s situation is definitely odd, as logically it would have made a lot more sense to make Sean a regular instead. It probably was a contract or budgeting reason. As for how bad the CGI budget could get, I think Wonderland gives us a pretty good idea, sans the White Rabbit of course (who looked amazing).

ModeratorThe other issue ABC has is that it has continued to struggle launching a new show on Sundays. The only show following Once to debut on Sunday that lasted more than 1 Season thus far was Resurrection, but even that is now certain to be cancelled after its lackluster 2nd Season. Yeah Revenge has lasted just as long as Once so far, but that didn’t move to Sundays until Season 2. Every other show ABC has tried to launch on Sundays has been a dud, and got canned after only half a Season. It doesn’t help that Sundays for network TV are decaying overall, especially with the rise of stiff competition from cable shows the same night. So while Once has been declining in viewership, I feel ABC is reluctant to replace it for the time being. Of course the show will have to end at some point, but figuring out what could replace it is easier said than done, based on the factors I mentioned before. That’s the TV biz for you. Taking risks and seeing what sticks.

ModeratorOh to be sure. There’s no chance we aren’t getting a S5. The question really becomes how much money ABC will shill out–12 episodes or 22. As it stands, I’d say we’re looking at a 22 episode S5 just because the numbers aren’t egregiously bad. This IS the fourth season of a show that is heavily couched in its own mythology—and any show that operates under that is going to be losing viewers the longer it goes on because people get tired on them not answering questions or losing track of the shows history, ect.
Even if we hit a new series low (and it’s looking like we might because I expect 415 to be another drop just because 414 was so negatively received) it won’t be as bad as some other series lows on other shows. We’re still a decent chunk away from WL ratings, for instance. Or CW ratings. I’d say we won’t go below a 1.4 this season (if we even hit that). So that’s perfectly acceptable for a show that has been on the air this long, is this kind of show, and has reached a natural “death” instead of an early one.
Funny thing is, I noticed elsewhere (social media and other sites) that plenty of people actually did enjoy the last episode, so I would say the reception was more mixed overall than anything. Our forum’s reception was definitely overall negative, but we’re just a small part of the fandom.
Anyway, I agree overall with what you said. At this point, if Once were to end within the next Season or so, I feel ABC would plan it that way in advanced. The show is still important to the ABC brand, and they would want the show to go out with a bang, rather than just cancelling it abruptly once ratings drop to the lowest threshold.

ModeratorAs it stands, TVByTheNumbers still has the show as “certain to be renewed”:
http://tvbythenumbers.zap2it.com/2015/03/17/abc-predictions-last-man-standing-is-likely-to-be-renewed/If the show’s renewal chances get adjusted down within the next few weeks, I honestly don’t see it being downgraded past “more than likely to be renewed.”

First that ballroom location, and now this concert hall location. Really curious how they are going to use these locations.

I guess more Enchanted Forest stuff, but who’s farm is this? David’s? Or maybe it’s Marian’s, since I recall Robin mentioning how Marian lived on a farm.
