ModeratorAre they making a conscious effort to dress Maleficent like Zelena? It’s kinda bugging me, because I’d prefer Maleficent to have a unique look, but almost every set photo I do a double take thinking I’m looking at Zelena.
It’s the hat, but there are some distinctions. Zelena’s outfit was darker with blacks, blues and even some green. She also wore a skirt, instead of a grey pantsuit like Mal is wearing. Still, I can see why the similarities feel glaring.

ModeratorFor those interested, a soundtrack has been released: https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/galavant-original-soundtrack/id956968114&uo=4&at=11l5XS
I’m sad that this is far from a complete soundtrack. The most notable omission is “Hero’s Journey” from episode 2. Hoping the missing songs get released eventually. However, “Togetherness”, “Lords of the Sea”, “Comedy Gold”, “No One But You”, and “Hey, Hey, We’re the Monks” are slightly extended.

ModeratorSad news, but the ratings for this week dropped to a 0.9: http://tvbythenumbers.zap2it.com/2015/01/19/tv-ratings-sunday-galavant-tumbles-revenge-up-scorpion-strong-as-afc-championship-wins-night/351697/
Honestly, not that surprised, since the whole point was to air something to prevent OUAT from competing against award shows and football. Looks like ABC was the only one to air original programming that night, as the other networks were either airing sports or didn’t want to compete against the 2nd biggest football night of the year. The Cancellation Bear is already eyeing for its sadly likely cancellation. Though to be honest, the way they set up this show, I’m not sure how its story would extend past one Season anyway. I feel Galavant is also a tough sell, since it’s such a weird concept for a TV show.

ModeratorThis week’s group of episodes were lots of fun. Starting with the songs, the highlights for me were Madalena’s narcissistic number “No One But You”, the twisted tango number “I Love You” between Madalena and Galavant, and the touching “Love is Strange” between Galavant and Isabella. Loved Weird Al’s catchy “We’re the Monks” song, though I wish Weird Al had more screentime than he was given. Ricky Jervais as Xanax the Magician led to some clever humor (“Xanax can help anything”), and a trippy 70ish song. The “Love is Strange” duet was a moment of rejoicing for Galabella fans, and it was nice to finally see Galavant come to terms to the reality that Madalena never truly loved him. I will say Madalena makes for a great villain. She’s a manipulative little witch who will do whatever it takes to get what she wants. Plus, Mallory Jansen is clearly having a blast play her. I liked getting to see some of Richard’s backstory. Richard’s brother, Kingsley, truly is a tool, and I loved how they even showed us a young Gareth. Chef got to shine in both of these episodes, too. Chef’s romance with Madalena’s hand maiden was cute, and I enjoyed how Chef accompanied Richard to see Xanax. It’s sad that next week is the Season, possibly even Series finale. I’m certainly going to miss this show.

ModeratorEpisode 314, “Enter the Dragon”, has already been confirmed as Regina centric, since it’s supposed to be the story of how Regina and Maleficent met.
Couldn’t that one be Maleficent centric as opposed to Regina centric? We know that Ursula’s getting a centric, so you’d think Maleficent would get one too, and hers would probably come first. Plus, with a title like that, it’s always sounded Maleficent centric to me.
I mean 314 is a Maleficent/Regina centric. It’s centric for Maleficent, but in terms of the main cast, it’s Regina’s too. As I said, it was already confirmed that 314 would cover how the two met and became friends. Now the one Queen of Darkness centric we haven’t pinned down yet is Cruella, so that’s why I suspect this could be her’s.

ModeratorThis is one of the reasons I really enjoy the show, it doesn’t take itself too seriously. There are still some more serious moments, like how in ep 3 Galavant had some self realisation and then gave that pep talk to Sid, (sidenote: I loved the gag of Sid collecting “dolls”, this show is good at inserting little things that are more modern references, like fanboys collecting figurines, but making them fit in the medieval fairy tale setting), but overall it’s just a parody and it knows it. For me it’s like a breath of fresh air from Once, which I feel takes itself far too seriously when IMO it’s not at the standard where it can do that any more.
Exactly. For one, there’s no hardcore shipping drama within the fandom like with OUAT. I also enjoy how simple the plot is, as opposed to how much overload there is with OUAT’s plot.
I loved that Richard learned the Jester’s name (first AND last), but Madenena had no idea who he was talking about. Is it wrong to ship King Richard and the Jester, because I think I almost did? LOL I don’t really feel sorry for the Jester, you have a sordid affair with the Queen and you get what’s coming to you. I feel increasingly sorry for Richard, having Madelena for a wife. The poor guy, he’s so clueless that when he discovers his wife is having an affair, he goes to get tips from the guy she’s having the affair with. The scene where he was poking at the Jester with the fake sword made me giggle a lot, it came across far funnier than you’d think, (bless Tim Omundson, he is wonderful!).
I see your point. Yeah, it’s looking like Richard is slowly moving away from his role as the show’s antagonist, while Madalena becomes more and more the true antagonist of the show. I wouldn’t be surprised if he and Galavant end up becoming allies, which would be ultimately ironic.
I have to give a lot of props to the cast for being so friendly and interactive with the fanbase on Twitter. Karen David (Isabella) and Timothy Omundson (King Richard) are especially responsive. The whole cast is really into the show, and are very appreciative of the support it gets. Granted I know ABC obviously pays the cast to livetweet during the show, but even when the show’s not airing they’ll take the time to interact. It’s a shame the ratings took a dive last Sunday, no thanks to the Golden Globe Awards, as a 2nd Season of this seems unlikely if ratings continue to decrease for this week and its final week. A musical comedy like this is also a tough sell for a lot of casual TV audiences, unfortunately.

ModeratorI’m thinking this episode may be a Regina-centric one. Why? Well, mostly because Jane Espenson switched from writing Rumple-centric episodes to Regina-centric ones in S3.
True, but so far she’s written “White Out” and “Fall” for Season 4, neither which were Regina centric. “White Out” was Charming centric, while “Fall” was pretty much all Frozen centric. Episode 314, “Enter the Dragon”, has already been confirmed as Regina centric, since it’s supposed to be the story of how Regina and Maleficent met. Not sure we’d get another Regina centric only 2 episodes later.
