Just found this interesting thought regarding Neal being the past and Hook being the future so thought I’d share! Courtesy of onceuponamirror on tumblr:
One thing i love is how, in terms of Emma, Hook is always referring to the future, whereas Neal constantly harks on and atones the past. This is obvious in the structure of both “romance origin” episodes, where Neal is a flashback and Hook is the present, but it’s also exemplified through dialogue.
“WhenI jab you with my sword”
“Everything we need is right in front of us”
“Next time don’t stand on ceremony”
“Try something new”It’s an interesting notion because when we’ve seen Hook lament the emptiness of his revenge, he said that he has nothing to look forward to—but when he speaks to Emma, he is doing exactly that. And she confirms it in the finale, when she tells him that he can be a part of something.
I tweet Adam occasionally, especially if he’s getting lots of Hook hate but try not to be pushy, just thankful for the awesome pairing. Doubt he’ll respond to many shippers with how heated things get but maybe someday I’ll catch him at just the right time. Still nice to let him know that CS people are out there too, especially when he’s one of the main ones that gave us hints / teases that it was ok to hope for them. Why must the summer be so long??
Looking forward to seeing these lists of parallels! I haven’t started my analysis-driven rewatch yet but look forward to it! We’re all bound to notice / come across different things but it sounds like the lists that have been started have lots of good stuff on them so far! It’ll be nice to have it all in 1 place and have official stuff to point to rather than “he’s so hot” and “look at how he looks at her” interpretations (as much as I love those, people read different things into looks, so quotes, screenshots, etc hold more weight) and if I’m told I’m a shallow person and that’s the only possible reason I could like Hook one more time I’ll scream! It’s all there for a reason, can’t wait to see just how long that list gets!

MysteryKat25ParticipantAwesome catches! Every little parallel helps (and you CANNOT tell me these things are done this way for a reason!)
I can see Hook being torn and maybe at first being willing to kinda take a backseat and let Neal have the upper hand for a very very short amount of time and then Neal will make a comment or start a fight for no reason and then Hook will stand up and do what he wants which is to fight for Emma. Hook knows how he would feel should Milah be able to come back to him (which obviously can’t happen but Emma gets that chance with Neal since she thought he was dead…) and with his connection to Bae he’ll feel guilty for a bit but then be right back in Hook mode the moment Neal doesn’t play nice.
Hook showed us in the finale that he was willing to set aside something that is HUGE to him in order to give Bae a good life and Bae threw it in his face and so he went back to his old ways. I imagine it coming down to “if it’s a fight you want, it’s a fight you’re going to get” and then focus on wooing Emma later on. His quote needs to / has to count for something and while I see him definitely being torn I don’t think he’s going to just pick up and leave town either.
I agree that SF need to deal with their issues first though. I’m all for Emma & Hook getting close while they’re on their adventures in Neverland right now, but in order for it to be “real” for CaptainSwan, SwanFire need to prove that they’re no good together now. Emma HAS to make a choice, not just go for whoever is left standing.
I’m kinda waiting for her quotes from The Price of Gold to come back into play. Everybody has been telling her how to run her life, making decisions for her, manipulating where she ends up etc etc. Her speech to Ashley about doing what she wants instead of what everybody else wants could potentially be huge for CaptainSwan, especially if the rest of her family starts pushing her toward Neal and she wants to pick Hook. We know who Henry will want, Snowing aren’t going to be super happy etc etc, but ultimately it’s up to Emma because it’s her life.
I haven’t started my series rewatch yet but I’m definitely going to be on the lookout for quotes like that as there were TONS in season 1 of what kind of person she is, wants to be, and doesn’t want to be from the past (as well as her comments about Neal etc etc) and I really think there’s a LOT more we haven’t even thought of yet (ie: like those parallels that were just linked here showing just how similar the introduction scenes are for Hook / Milah, Hook / Emma.
So happy to see we’re over 100 pages now! We may be a fairly small group but we’ve been consistently defending / promoting / discussing our pairing from the start and the more we add to it, the more that is cemented in my mind that we have a really strong chance at being correct!
Totally agree on the Castle stuff as well!

MysteryKat25ParticipantColin tweeted a couple of days that he was parting ways with his band after 10 years. They seem pretty supportive of him still and tweeted back saying he was welcome back on stage with them anytime and wished him well. Emilie de Ravin started a whole tweet thing with the cast trying to form an OUAT band after that tweet he sent out. Love that this cast is so supportive of each other! I’m sure it wasn’t an easy decision for him to leave, especially after so long. He was definitely confirmed as a regular for S3 and he was a regular for the backend of season 2 and didn’t do this til now (officially anyway) so they must have told him they’d need him around a bunch I would think. Yay for us though!

Wish they’d be more careful about this stuff.
This was the first time this duo wrote together, but they’ve both written episodes for Once before, and good ones too!
Agreed, + don’t the headwriters generally look over the scripts and make sure that nothing contradicts something they want to do / tell them to add in something about ___ without necessarily telling them why?
I feel like *somebody* along the way would have been like um…but didn’t you say that this happens? So it seems VERY odd to me.
It reminds me of something I saw about Silver Linings Playbook (no spoilers), but certain numbers had to be = to a specific number and one of the actresses on the sideline of that scene kept doing the math in her head and it wasn’t adding up to what they wanted it to be and she was right. Surely SOMEBODY would think something was off or at least question what that means down the line…
As for Jefferson, perhaps he knows of the existence of them but can’t get there via his hat. The way he travels is only within the hat but we’ve seen other ways to get places so he may have vast knowledge on this and he might know other portal jumpers that use different means of travelling etc.
Agreed Gypsy, it is frustrating! I like the idea of needing a constant because they do kinda have to travel around via stories they can tell so that would make sense. Then we’re back to the pesky couple hundred years line because I always figured from his birthdate-now, it would seem to Emma like a couple hundred years and even more than that to Bae because NL time is different but if he landed late 1800s / early 1900s (I’ve seen them SAY 19th century which would be 1800s but uh..why does it LOOK like the early 1900s? which also lines up with the PP story…and in that case HOW could he possibly be supposed to be a couple hundred years old if it’s just a 100?)
I’m giving myself a headache :S

Well, there is still 6 months unaccounted for before he shows up in London…….
So he drops into Kennsington Gardens after The Return and then somehow leaves and then comes back to London and then leaves again for NL?
Unless…he falls into K. Gardens from some other place, not FTL. But he calls out for Rumple. So it has to be right after The Return.
*scratches head* Ouch?
Hmm, that’s the only way I can see them getting out of that line and yet he was still originally supposed to be going to a land without magic which still heavily implies our world, especially given that Rumple had the curse go to our world (though it took him forever and I’m still not sure if it was a “go to this land” type thing or “go to whatever land Bae is in now” type of thing which could be the same or they could be different and both would have ended up here now but only by coincidence).
I suppose he could have gone through another portal though I’m not sure how given that that was the last bean and he was supposed to be somewhere without magic so how would he have gotten another one to create a very similar portal to those we’ve only seen with beans. As for calling out for Rumple I think any trip down a portal would be traumatic, especially happening so soon and at that age, and he supposedly had nightmares for years as well.
I was hoping to see a scene of this in the Hook and Bae flashbacks, showing that Bae was having the nightmares we’ve heard about and seeing Hook be there for him and bond them a bit more before Bae discovered the connection to Hook but sadly, if that was ever written *and it probably was – sigh* it landed on the cutting room floor. So we still have no evidence of this ever being an issue except for Neal saying it again and again (hinted at to Emma with leaping at the idea of the dreamcatcher and then again when he talked to Rumple saying he has the nightmares every night – yet nobody seems to know about them).
*shakes fist at Neal’s lines and his awkward wording to explain the past* Sometimes I swear I just wanna smack him over the head and scream “Just say what you mean!”

MysteryKat25ParticipantArgh I HATE that line. On the bright side it means that if the Darlings are connected to the Home Office they didn’t have to find a way to get to our version of anything so that is good at least. However, I think we’re going to have to take his (absolutely idiotic) line as something along the lines of Neverland being a real “stop” because he stayed there so long and then our world. I can’t however explain away the 6 months + “a few weeks” in our world when that’s clearly what happened unless it’s just been soooo long for him (and NL time seems even longer) that he doesn’t really consider it as stopping here until the 2nd trip here (or at least, 2nd that we know of – this is starting to sound a lot like the Ogre Wars numbering system :S)
Gypsy – Didn’t it show him landing and then almost immediately finding Kensington Gardens though? I feel like it was very heavily implied that he was basically living an Oliver Twist existence in that area for the 6 months before finding the Darlings. Otherwise I’m very much inclined to agree with you!

Hmm, I guess they met in Portland and moved down to Arizona around the time Emma ended up in jail then. I remember thinking all along it was Arizona and then the Oregon police cars threw a wrench into that but I guess maybe they went all the way down to Arizona and just ended up in a similarly-named place (there’s a Phoenix, Oregon as well apparently). This is like figuring out Emma’s…t-word…with how old she was.
Lots of gaps to fill in with that story then if they changed locations that drastically along their journey, + we need to find out about how Henry got to SB etc etc so I’m sure we’ll get that story at some point this season. That’s one of the over-arcing questions and since it relates to Neal leaving Emma I would imagine that when he gets back and they finally (hopefully) start talking through some stuff that more of this is explained.
I’m pretty sure her 2 years were spent in Tallahassee hoping he’d come looking for her there and she was obviously devastated that he didn’t. These two really need to talk, regardless of what happens going forward and we need answers!

MysteryKat25ParticipantAll very interesting ideas! I would like to point out though that Henry was born in Phoenix, Oregon, not Arizona (I thought there was only one as well but apparently not…) – not that it changes much I’m sure but different part of the country still.
I definitely think that Emma spent the 2 years in Tallahassee searching for Neal and I had forgotten about her rant to Ashley so perhaps somebody did step in and got her to give him up. He wasn’t adopted til he was 3 weeks old I think so there is definitely a gap or two to fill in. Hopefully we get all of those stories together sometime soon and fill in some of those gaps.

MysteryKat25ParticipantCan’t wait to see how all the fanfics & fanvids turn out!
On a happy note look what I just found! RIGHT FROM EMMA’S MOUTH:
“He left her. It’s one thing to say that he wants you, but it’s another to actually make the choice. Now that he has, that’s all you can ask for.”
(Emma to Mary Margaret in 1×06)
They set up Emma back in Season 1 to be the girl who wants the guy who makes the choice to be with her, not the one who says he wants it but does nothing about it *cough* regretting every day for years and knows where she is and does nothing to go get her *cough*
*happy dance* – it’s canon for Emma’s character officially which means…nobody can say we’re just interpreting her character differently and making stuff up. It’s something that she has actually said. Yay!
Keeper of Hook's Trenchcoat.
MysteryKat25ParticipantSurayya I am loving all these parallels! Thanks so much for adding them to the thread! Every little bit helps in our quest to make people understand what we’re actually seeing that backs up our ship! (I am so beyond over hearing that there aren’t any parallels when there clearly are.) It’s also good for our mental well-being over the break so keep ’em coming!
I’ll look for some on my rewatch, trying to catch up on other stuff I’ve been neglecting first but the list of parallels and things seen on the show is definitely getting longer and longer! Love it!
