ParticipantI’d read people’s comments on the ep before watching it, so I knew to expect some hot mess, but even though I went in prepared, I’m sitting here just…overwhelmed…not in a good way.
Hated the timeline jump. This story could’ve played out throughout this half of the season much better than how it was presented.
Yup! Problem is they wanted to show the Curse being cast as the big finale for this first part of the season before the hiatus. And because they’d concocted such a ridiculous setup for how this Curse was cast, they just had too much stuff to cram in at the last moment. I can only imagine that their intention was to leave people thinking, “OMG how did all this happen, I’m so excited to fill in the blanks, I can’t wait for hiatus to be over.” But it backfired big time and everyone’s just confused instead, because they did a big time jump and threw a whole bunch of scenarios at us that are just dumbfounding, rather than intriguing. A good finale should leave your audience with questions, but not of the, “Well this just makes no sense,” variety.
The Oldest part of the Enchanted Forrest is the original enchanted forest? That makes no sense. I thought this was a completely different realm and that is why there is a new cinderella, and a new rapunzel, and new whoever else. What happened to that?
OK so I’d have to go back to check, but the original tree that made Emma’s wardrobe, did that come from “the oldest part of the EF”? If so, then I think what they were attempting to imply is that New!EF also has “the oldest part of the New!EF” and that’s where the magic trees are, because no matter the realm, that’s just the part of the forest where the magic trees are. And I’m also gonna assume that this axe belonged to New!EF Gepetto, rather than the one we know? Basically, I think Henry was like, “This is what the setup was in the original story, so it’ll all work out the same if I just sub in the New!EF versions of all the things.” Perhaps?
The scene between Hook and Alice was first of all mumbled so I could not understand it even after watching it four times. So I had no idea what in the world they were talking about, but I guess that it was that she should be reunited with Robyn her love? Okay thanks for that with absolutely no background.
It was a tad confusing, but here’s what I got out of that exchange…
Hook: Are you sure this is still where you wanna be?
Alice: Knowing what he’d give up for me, I owe it to him to stay by his side. And who knows, maybe our Cursed memories will be better.
Maybe this means that Rumple gave up his humanity and became the imp again because reasons, to help Alice with something, and that’s why he’s now seemingly her BFF, rather than Hook? Maybe Rumple stepped in to do something to help her in a situation where Hook wouldn’t or couldn’t, and that’s why they seem estranged now? I mean, I know they were cursed to not be able to touch each other or whatever, but it seems like there’s more than that going on that’s keeping them apart now. (Perhaps he later gives up the chance for them to remember each other because he figures their relationship is such a mess that even Curse memories can’t fix it, so maybe he feels like he’s not giving up that much, especially when compared to what Ella and Lucy would have to give up?)
The next line from Hook, I’m not entirely sure if this is accurate because I don’t have captions on my version of the ep, but I think he says, “Fewer trees and walls in our way.” Maybe? Which…I guess will make sense whenever we get their backstory filled in and see what exactly happened? Walls could refer to the tower? Trees could refer to Gothel? Maybe? My head hurts.
Alice: Yes. But Papa if it happens I will lose her.
Hook: Don’t say that love, don’t. True love can win out over so much more.
Alice: I hope so. Please give this to her for me. I don’t have one for you, but, you already know how I feel.
Hook: I’ll deliver it, but I’m gonna do my best to make sure that nothing parts any of us.
Alice’s first line, I think is, “Yeah maybe the curse will bring us closer, but it’ll make me lose Robyn,” so Alice is basically resigned to having at least one of the main relationships in her life being wrecked, no matter which realm they’re in.
Hook’s last line, is him saying that he has #hope that the Curse can be stopped, Alice can stay in New!EF with Robyn, and he can find some way to resolve whatever drove him and Alice apart.
That whole scene made me just tilt my head and be “WUT?” after first watch, but seeing a few people confused, so going back to re-watch a few times, I think maybe it makes sense now. But it shouldn’t bloody well take 4 times watching a scene for it to make sense!!!
The kingdom seemed to be at peace for 8 years and Tiana was a princess again, so what the hell happened?
Tiana’s actually the Queen now, (Lucy addresses her as such). So go figure!

ParticipantOf course Zelena and Robyn are living in San Francisco. The witch from Oz is living somewhere over all the rainbows, and as if we needed confirmation that Robyn would be the other half of the LGBT couple.

ParticipantAfter the developments in this ep, I’m more inclined to believe the speculation that Victoria is an adult RealRapunzel. If RealRapunzel trapped Gothel in the Tower, then it would make sense if she had her trapped again in present day, and was fearful of her being set free. And there was that line that Victoria had about Gothel never seeing the light of day again or something, which feels like it could be a line that we see come back at some point when there’s a flashback to Gothel locking RealRapunzel away.
It makes me want to flip all the tables that they’re repeating the rape by deception plot point. With any luck they’ve at least learned that a person who does such a thing shouldn’t get a redemption arc where the people involved end up being cool with what they did? #hope
Just keep Gothel evil, she works as a villain because she’s using people to achieve her own ends, (whatever that may be).

ParticipantBest thing about this ep was the set for the Tea Party. Everything else was rather MEH.
More unneeded plot spaghetti through exposition with Ella’s sad family tale. Show me Ella’s life, stop telling it to me! It’s not helping bolster her character.
–Honestly, the Ella/her mother/the curse stuff would be more powerful if Ella wasn’t such a drag of a character (also if they would SHOW us this stuff!)
This needed to be a further back Ella flashback ep if they wanted to dump this bit of plot history on us. Just hearing a brief recap of what happened with Ella’s mother was pointless, it doesn’t make me feel any sort of connection to the story, or what Ella and her father went through. It’s the sort of story I could care about though, it could have served as a way to get us on board emotionally with Ella, but they botched the opportunity. Show us that flashback of Ella’s mother trying to get home, and instead ending up dying in Wonderland, and then maybe we’ll care about how sad it is that Ella lost her mother.
Instead of falling in love slowly over time, Henry and Ella have a necklace do the work for them! Geeeeeez, come on.
Lord knows that I’m fine with a necklace being a symbol of true love in this show, but the way they did this was infuriating. Maybe when they wrote it, they were anticipating that Henry and Ella’s love story would have come across more convincingly on the screen by now, so they thought this wouldn’t feel too early for magically glowing true love necklaces? But seriously though, now it just feels like they’re gonna full on fall in love because they saw the necklaces tell them to, and that just cheapens any genuine emotion that develops between them.
Nick is Jack? Jack a giant killer?
I was relieved that he wasn’t AdultBabyNamestealer like some of us had feared he would be. I was not relieved that he was confirmed as one part of a love triangle like some had feared he would be. I have to say though that a Giant Killer is actually a decent correlation to a lawyer, (provided someone is the right type of lawyer).
No one wants to be a Kathryn.
Actually made me LOL!

ParticipantI’d actually been rather enjoying the season. Then these two convoluted plot episodes happened. Oh Show, you’d been doing so well. But then an overnight magic flower baby, really? REALLY? *facepalm*
Does Rogers not have a picture of Eloise?? Cause if he did, surely he would realize that young Eloise Gardener couldn’t a be an older woman with graying, multi-colored matted hair???
This right here is a big reason why I just did not believe that Alice would be Hook’s missing kid, because it would be absurd that a missing person’s case file wouldn’t contain their photo, (should have realised which show I’m watching and not ruled out something based on it being absurd), so if the missing person Hook was looking for was his daughter, then Alice couldn’t be Eloise Gardener because he’d seen Alice’s face. So now I’ll have to fanwank that it’s totally reasonable that a missing person’s case file has no photo of the missing person, if said case file was made by a curse. Fine. *sigh*
I guess I can see how he jumped to the conclusion that it was just case closed when he saw a female huddled in a corner being hidden away by Victoria, because he just needed the case solved that badly? But just a few minutes earlier I’d been watching him actually put clues together with the ink on the page that ran, and Weaver complimenting him on actually being a good detective, so this ending just didn’t exactly compute IMO.
Rumple protecting Hook–even if it’s Cursed Wish Realm Hook–from himself is maybe the biggest sign of character development EVER.
I feel like Weaver is starting to live up to his name. With all the things he knows about all the different people, especially now that he’s awake, he has the ability to control how these people interact, “weaving” them into each other’s paths as he deems necessary. I like that he’s mindful of “saving Rogers from himself” because he knows what obsession is like, and they even had him looking at the Dagger to drive home that he’s reflecting on how obsession can destroy a person. I just hope he’s actually got a long game that does involve Rogers learning the truth and being reunited with his child. Because Rumple knows what it’s like to be torn apart from your child, so if he really has changed in his attitude towards Hook, he should ultimately help him out with reuniting with his child.
I think the idea of Hook staying and raising the baby is ridiculous. He would never do that. He sold Bae to Pan. He killed his father and abandoned his brother. There is no i am going to take care of this helpless infant in Hook’s character.
They tried to play up his own abandonment issues as the reason why he’d stay. But yeah, this is the guy who sold out the son of the woman he loved to Pan. The writers orchestrated his whole family sob story after that fact, so it doesn’t exactly fit together. They could have made it a bit more believable if he’d had a line about regretting what he’d done to Bae, and how he should have known better considering his own personal history, but he learned from that mistake and he wasn’t gonna abandon another child. Maybe that would have made the sudden decision to stay a little less jarring?
Again I’m disappointed that such an excellently written and acted character is not related to the Stiltskin clan. Seriously which family reunion do you think Alice would fit in at – The Jones Reunion or The Stiltskin Reunion?
THIS!!!!
I’m sorry, but even if Snow White & Charming got rid of Regina’s magic, which I don’t even think is possible without the user’s consent…..there’s no way the Evil Queen would have given up on her revenge. She was still a master swordswoman, master manipulator, and a Queen, she would’ve went out in blaze of glory while destroying everything around the Charmings.
Agreed, this “welp I give up, so long” version of EQ just did not feel in character at all. She’d have been out there burning villages until she found the MacGuffin that could give her her magic back so she could get even more revenge on Snow and Charming than before, not running away with her tail between her legs.
But then, nothing about this “Many Years Ago” history of the Wish Realm makes any sense, so.

ParticipantHook is ageless though, because Neverland.
This is Wish!Hook though. Did he ever go to Neverland? Because he was quite old when we first saw him prior.
WishHook said that he and OriginalHook’s stories were the same up until Regina casting/not casting the Curse. So yes, he still did Neverland.
Phee
ParticipantHook is ageless though, because Neverland. So I still think that the visual age difference between him and Rapunzel is meant to be just enough to suggest that they’re father and daughter.
What I’m thinking is that on one of his jobs for Pan, where Hook left Neverland for a few days, he hooked up with a random, then he buggered off back to Neverland and never knew that he got someone pregnant. Said pregnant lady finds herself poor and alone and very pregnant, so makes a deal with a powerful witch (Gothel in the bad wig) to be able to get some stability in her life, but the payment for the deal is the witch gets the baby. And that’s how Rapunzel ends up in her tower. *many years later* Hook is back in NewEF for a little bit on another vacation from Neverland, and he hears about some witch with crazy magic, which leads him to the tower, and then Rapunzel is all, “OMG I was told that my dad was a pirate with a Hook for a hand!”
Part of me wants to say that Rapunzel = Anastasia = Tremaine and Hook’s kid, I just dunno if it’d really work considering some of the tid-bits we know about Anastasia so far. Because they said she “died” when she was 14, didn’t they? And Rapunzel is definitely older than that. And it also seems like Drizella actually knew her sister, which couldn’t have happened if her sister was Rapunzel in the tower.
I mean, I could believe a story where the lady that Hook hooked up with was a young, poor Tremaine, who made a deal with Gothel for wealth, had to give up her baby, who became Rapunzel, but then the tower’s destruction “killed” her, and once Tremaine had custody of her back, she re-named her Anastasia, because that’s what she’d always wanted to name her, but Gothel had named her Rapunzel instead when she took her as a newborn. BUT I just don’t think that would fit with the stuff we know about Anastasia, so I’m not really thinking that’s actually the case.
And I just don’t really see Rapunzel = Tremaine = Hook’s baby mama, because I don’t think it fits with what we know about him sneaking into his daughter’s prison to play chess with her and having her piece be the tower. That doesn’t fit if Rapunzel was his lover instead of his daughter.

ParticipantIn pursuit of revenge, Hook seeks a dark and powerful magic,
I’m guessing they mean against Rumple so it’s a good chunk of time ago, meaning Rapunzel is more likely to be a love interest–rather than a daughter-like many of us have speculated?
The photos make Rapunzel look a fair bit younger than Hook IMO, so I’m still betting on daughter. It could be that he didn’t even know he was a father until he comes across Rapunzel, and that discovery that he had a child is what “alters his fate forever” if it gives him an attitude adjustment, something else to focus on instead of endlessly going after Rumple. I mean honestly, it’d be pretty believable if Hook had fathered a child he had no knowledge of what with all the drunken one night stands. And maybe Rapunzel had heard stories about her father having been a pirate, and maybe she’d been told a description of him, like how he always wore a red vest and had a hook for a hand, so she puts it together who he is when they meet in the tower.

ParticipantWho is the other guy? Is that an older Roland? Or just a random to have a love triangle?
It’s Nathan Parsons, the guy who everyone was debating which character he’s gonna be.
Judging by the body language in a couple of those photos, my money is still on him being an AdultBabyNamestealer. In one pic he and Henry are standing really close, and he has his arms out almost like maybe they’re gonna hug? And in the one where he’s shaking Ella’s hand, Henry’s smiling and it kinda looks like maybe Henry’s just introduced them to each other? That stuff would fit if this guy is Henry’s uncle.
Phee
ParticipantHook’s chess piece is a knight, so I’d guess this ep will be his centric?
