ParticipantWe needed her back story if nothing else and yet we still haven’t gotten it.
I’m positive they had more back story to tell with her. This show doesn’t do, “evil without a reason” and they gave us Greg’s motivation, and I’m sure they had an explanation for Tamara’s motivation too. It’s a bugger that now we’ll never know what it was.
Why were GOAT specifically chosen for their task? How did GOAT meet?
It could have been a compelling plot if they’d shown exactly how Pan’s reach extended into our world, to find and pluck out these people to train to be his minions, without them even being aware of how they were being controlled.
I think GOAT was one of those things that was a much better idea on paper, but it just didn’t click quite right when they brought it to life, and as a result they got dropped and we’re left with all these unanswered questions.

ParticipantThat confession gets ALL THE COOKIES, because SO accurate!

ParticipantIf Charming hadn’t had the supply of water with him, he’d have keeled over and died just like Liam did. They didn’t have an infinite supply of the water in SB, so needed Rumple to make the permanent cure.

ParticipantAn interesting insight from Schmacky

Why have we not talked about this moment? Or maybe we have but I missed it.
Neal looks nervous. Scared. He’s not sure what his father is going to do. And that makes him nervous. Perhaps for a split second he thought he should stay back with him just in case. But his father wanted to be alone with his own father. Neal just looks very uneasy right now. And I think those minutes when he was frozen and powerless as he watched his father give his life for them all he could have thought, “If only I had stayed back with him.”
That is an excellent observation. And now that scene of Rumple talking to FrozenNeal is gonna hurt even more the next time I watch it!
In other, more hopeful news, here’s a thing I just read…
Theory time…
Emma lost the memory of returning Neal her swan pendant. The whole new memories stuff is still a bit unclear but I believe memories of Neal giving her the keychain and receiving car keys with it in jail are intack. I’m not sure though about her memories of the pendant after she leaves hospital with Henry. Let’s assume that Emma’s memories about the pendant (it was only a small sentimental detail after all) weren’t altered which creates a tiny loophole in the curse.
So what if, after seeing the dreamcatcher Emma subconsciously tries to reach the pendant on her neck but it’s not there. And that’s the moment when Emma realizes that something is wrong. Because it feels like it should be there. But it’s not. It’s gone.
It’s an interesting point to ponder, will that missing pendant have any significance? Does Emma just think she lost it somewhere? Or does she not even notice it’s gone, until something triggers her to realise it? And if so, could it be a vital piece in the puzzle of her getting back her memories?

ParticipantDoes anyone else remember seeing a bunch of shots of Emma and chris g in front of cab? I seem to recall him taking Emma by both hands and swinging out her hands away from her body,
Yes and yes, (click the thumbnail to see the full pic)…

ParticipantSF Family FEELS.
I love this about Neal. He’s only known for a couple of weeks that he’s a father, and look at him putting his kid’s needs and well being before his own.

ParticipantWe actually see the windows in Emma’s NYC apartment very clearly. Henry is in front of them watering plants. The dreamcatcher isn’t there.
Wasn’t in her bedroom window either.

Emma’s windows are huge, no frame at a lower height to hang the dream catcher from. Neal’s window was smaller, and had the section that pushed up, which allowed for the frame it hung from at that height just above eye level with the window open in Manhattan, and a bit lower, more like actual eye level with the window closed in the promo shot.

Phee
ParticipantThanks Phee for the screen shots and pointing out the whole but did you noticed the back ground I think that is Emma’s apt.
If it was hanging in Emma’s own apartment window and is something she sees every day, it would make no sense that she’s looking at it now all wide eyed and mouth agape like it’s something from a past life that she hasn’t seen in ages. It would make no sense to me for Emma to have the dream catcher in her apartment anyway. We know it was Neal who had kept it, and though Emma got new memories, history didn’t change, so Neal is still the one who kept the dream catcher, and it’s still always been in his apartment. Also, if it were something hanging in Emma’s own apartment, we’d have seen a shot of it at the end of 311, but we didn’t.
The most logical explanation IMO is that Hook gives her Neal’s address, and she goes there, (we can have a parallel shot of her picking the lock, to go with how Rumple picked the lock in Manhattan), sees their old dream catcher, and that’s part of what makes her believe that Hook isn’t just a raving loon, he is actually someone who knows Neal, so perhaps she should listen to what he’s got to say after all.

ParticipantExcellent post, PoM!!
I’ve yet to see Emma really show any sort of care towards Hook other then a friend or comrade. Hook may show his feelings toward her but you would think she would reciprocate them or show a bit of interest in what he said to her? Nope haven’t seen it.
What we’ve seen in S3, is her downplaying the kiss, and not even seeking him out for alone time, not even a private conversation, when they were back in SB. And at the town line, she didn’t even tell him that she’d think of him too, or imply that she’d miss him, she wasn’t even gonna give him a personal goodbye until he walked up to her. I just don’t get the impression from Emma that she’s seriously interested in him at all. She’s not that emotionally affected by or attached to him at all IMO. In contrast, she’s been having ALL THE EMOTIONS (including undying love) in relation to Neal. I don’t use the word “contrast” lightly, because her attitudes towards each of them really do seem like night and day to me.
Hook doesn’t really know Emma at all as a person. I believe he’s in love with the idea of her. Strong, brave, speaks her mind woman that he idealize just like we idealize certain celebrities and how they portray themselves on the exterior. But we don’t know anything behind the scenes then what we are shown. Neal knows her, at her best and worst because of their time together. I’m predicting in the end Hook will come to realize that he has the capacity to love again. I think Emma just helps point the direction for him.
Love than analogy of how we perceive celebs. Basically, Hook hasn’t been around Emma in a type of situation where he can actually know her properly. In the grand scheme of things, they haven’t actually spent that much time together, and none of the time they have spent together has been just regular, chilling out, downtime, getting to know you kinda situation, and half the time they’ve been on opposing sides. He quite simply has not been in a situation with her where he’s had the opportunity to see all sides of her. The sides he has seen of her, I can totally get why he’d be attracted to her, but he just doesn’t know her on that multi-layered level where you can say that you truly know and love someone.
In contrast, (again, not using the word lightly), Neal lived in very close quarters with her back in the day. They struggled together, they were a team who worked together so they could survive, and he knows her pain of having grown up feeling abandoned and alone. Neal knows Emma inside and out, all the good and all the bad, and he accepts and understands it all. He may not have told Emma specifics of his life back in the day, but I don’t think he ever misrepresented the type of person he was, so the person she fell in love with was completely real. And in recent times, she’s been discovering new things about him, which has served to deepen her understanding of him.
I missed that debate, SF run its course it hasn’t had a chance to run it course because Neal and Emma never got a chance to accomplish that because obstacles keep happening that prevents them from reuniting.
When people say that SF has run it’s course, that’s one of those moments where I wonder if they’re watching the same show as me. How is Neal declaring that they’ll see each other again a means of them showing closure for that relationship? If they intended to show that SF was over, done with, kaput, 100% closure, they’d have given Hook the line about them seeing each other again, which would have led perfectly into him showing up at her door, which would have advanced the CS plot and indicated that the SF plot wasn’t a thing any more. But that’s not what they did. Instead we had Neal being the only one to give her hope that they’d see each other again, and now we have a shot in the promo of Emma with their dream catcher which is a major (like, MAJOR) callback to the time when they were together, and also the time they were reunited.
So I dunno man, subjective lens and shipper bias and all, but it seems to me that stuff like that it just basic story construction logic type stuff that very clearly indicates that the story of Emma and Neal is very much an ongoing thing.

ParticipantPretty sure that clip of Emma in the apartment with the dreamcatcher was simply a recycled clip pulled from the episode “Manhattan”, and it is not a new clip. That promo had a few other old clips mixed in, too.
Like others have said, it’s definitely a new shot. It’s staged completely differently, (In Manhattan her hand comes up behind the dream catcher as she’s walking towards it, in this new shot, you only see the blur of her arm as she’s reaching up when she’s already standing there), she’s dressed differently (the blur of her arm is red, and she’s wearing a red jacket in 312, was wearing a black one in Manhattan), it’s lit completely differently, (was a shadow covering half her face in Manhattan), and someone noticed just the other day that in the promo clip, there are a few busted strings in the bottom left corner of the dream catcher, (perhaps because it’s been left in an apartment that’s been uninhabited for over a year now, so the whole place may well be set up to look uncared for and unkempt). Basically, there’s no way it can be a recycled clip from Manhattan.
Here’s the wider shot that shows the hole in the bottom left corner…
