ParticipantThe way this played out, it was like a parallel, yet a contrast to his past.
Back in the day, he deserted the war, for justifiable reasons IMO, but everyone, including Milah, saw him as a coward, because he wasn’t willing to stand up to the front line of the war, even though it meant his almost certain death.
Rumple wanted desperately to be with Milah and Bae, so he did what he thought was right, but was considered cowardly.
Now, he desperately wanted to be with Belle and Bae, wanted to do what was right, but this time that meant actually stepping up to the front line of the war, knowing it would mean giving his life. And he was able to do that because of the strength he’s found since knowing Belle.
Back then, his significant other would have preferred if he’d died. Now, his significant other definitely did not want him to die. Back then he didn’t make what was perceived as a brave choice. Now, he definitely did make a brave choice. Damned if he does, damned if he doesn’t. He doesn’t believe he can have both the bravery, and the love, they’re just not compatible in his world. It’s so emotionally complex. It makes my heart hurt.
But it also makes me believe that he WILL be OK, somehow, some way. Because this is a story about hope, and it’s a pretty miserable end for one of their central characters if he just dies, believing he can’t have love. So he’ll be back, and he’ll have all the love he can handle.

ParticipantNeal could be in NY with Hook or they split up to look for Emma & Henry – Neal went to Tallahassee or Boston & Hook went to NY. We just haven’t any pics yet. I wonder if the magic globe is around….
I think Hook’s been sent alone. If Emma’s old, pre-Henry memories of Neal are still the same, then she’d likely have a similar reaction to in Manhattan if Neal showed up on her doorstep in present day. Wouldn’t be conducive to getting through to her, having her listen to him, and making her believe. So Hook goes instead. They could use the crystal ball in Rumple’s castle to locate Emma, (now I have visions of anyone who needs a fix of Emma and/or Henry just picking up the crystal ball and gazing into it whenever, and it’s making me all sorts of emo), and when they discover she’s in NYC, they send Hook with Neal’s address so he can give it to her, so she can go there, see their dreamcatcher as seen in the promo, and know that Hook’s telling the truth about who he is. Then, assuming the potion bottle is a memory potion, Emma will then be willing to drink it, because she now knows that Hook isn’t just some raving lunatic.
Does Regina know what false memories she gives people or does Magic decide?
Judging by what we saw with her gifting happy memories to Emma and Henry, I wanna say that Regina just had to think of the general situation she wanted for people, and the Curse would take care of the specifics. So with the original Curse, just her thinking, “I want everyone’s happiness destroyed, if they love someone, I want them torn apart,” and the Curse itself took care of the details of everyone’s actual lives. So I dunno that she’d know the specifics of Emma and Henry’s new life.

ParticipantYep. Yep yep. The hardest part of shipping Swanfire is the OUAT fandom in general and the Neal haters. They really bring my shipping mood down.
I notice when I’m away from Tumblr and/or go on my ignore sprees, I’m much more carefree and hopeful for Swanfire.
The thing is, honestly, about Swanfire… if they aren’t going to do anything with Neal and Emma then I find the story of Emma and Neal maybe-sorta-yes-but-no feelings for each other pointless and stupid.
If Emma and Neal aren’t going to get together then what was the point of having Emma still love a man 10+ years later even after thinking he sold her out to the cops? Like… what is the point of that? It’s not good drama if she really doesn’t love him or doesn’t get with him eventually. It’s only good drama if she does.
What was the point of Tamara? Or separating them time and time again? If they aren’t going to do anything with Neal and Emma then they would sort out their issues and be clear of it and move on to a different type of relationship. As co-parents and friends. And if they really wanted to do a love triangle for Emma and Hook then they could have brought in any man … but not in her past.
To me, it’s beyond pointless storytelling to do all this to Neal and Emma for it to end up as “haha jk! They don’t really love one another. Nevermind!”
THIIIIISSSSSS!!! Honestly, they’ve gone to so much effort to construct SF’s story, and to KEEP IT GOING when they could have quite easily written the story as going in the opposite direction, and shutting their relationship down instead. All that effort would go to waste and make no sense if SF wasn’t the intended endgame. Would they really just throw away all the time and effort they’ve put into it? Unlikely IMO. Just looking at the way they’ve been building the story, it seems like a no brainer IMO that the natural, logical progression and culmination of that story is for them to eventually get it together.
RumplesGirl wrote: GAH. So many feelings about this! I love the idea. Of course they take him in. He’s lost EVERYTHING at this point.
I adore this idea, too! I would love to see Snow and David reach out to Neal, their last true connection to Emma and Henry. I hope he becomes like the son they never had! They can find out more about the life Emma had growing up without them from him. I also hope that Belle and Neal form a tight familial bond and that she’ll also be like a mother/sister figure to him.
Oh you know that Snowing will totally treat him like he’s already their son-in-law. It warms my heart to know that Neal and Snowing will still have a living connection to Emma and Henry, because they’ll still have each other. And Neal will still have a living connection to his father, because Belle is there. Neal has a family, you guys! It’s not complete right now, but it will be one day, when they get Emma, Henry, and Rumple back, and in the mean time, they still all have each other.

ParticipantOn something that Phee was saying a few pages ago, it’s my hope that over the last year Hook and Neal have come to at least some sort of understanding, if not actual friendship.
I seriously need for this to happen! Obviously Hook still had a streak of “I want Emma” in him because of the kiss attempt, but regardless, I really do hope that CaptainFire have become closer over the course of this year. I mean, it’s been A YEAR, so if there hasn’t been some sort of relationship development with those two, it’ll be a massive missed opportunity.
If he can’t be there with her, he can at least help Hook make her believe.
They’re always connected. They transcend worlds. Even when he can’t be there for her, he’s still there for her.
I also kind of hope that the minute everyone gets a handle on everything in the EF Neal is immediately off on some quest to try to get back to Emma and Henry (or is off on a quest with Belle to find Rumple, if they get a clue from somewhere that he’s not actually dead).
Oh I hope so! Love it when Neal is a man on a mission.
Also, I really really wish that before E&H had driven off across the town line Neal had gone over to the bug and at least touched it or something. Like a moment of remembrance of what it meant and everything that was being lost at that moment. Though if that had happened I probably would have sobbed.
I was bummed that we never got a moment of him recognising the Bug. Like, it sorta sticks out around town, so he HAD to have seen it. Didn’t even need him to say anything about it to her, they could have just had a reaction shot the first time he saw it, where he did a double take and then smiled sadly to himself.
PS. Welcome out of lurkdom! 🙂

I have decided Nealfire and Robin Hood are going to be BEST FRIENDS. FireHood BROTP!
This has to happen and I think it actually might too! Robin Hood is still there in Rumple’s castle where Neal and Belle may decide to go when they first arrive in the EF. Please happen!
That’s an adorable pic of Sean and MRJ!
I NEED this to happen because 1) Belle back in Rumple’s castle, 2) Neal seeing how Belle reacts to being back in Rumple’s castle, 3) Neal and Robin reunion, 4) Belle and Robin reunion.
PS. Pics of smiley Mikey make me smiley. Good Lord he’s adorable! 😀
I like the idea of Rumple landing in Oz … and even being the Wizard analog. I mean, who was the Wizard? A man without magic (like post-Dark-One Rumple would be) who nonetheless manages to convince a land he has stupendous magic through sheer cleverness and cunning. All the time searching for a way home.
Rumple could do that if anyone could.
You’re right, it could fit really nicely! Only thing I wonder is if they’d have a well known story actually playing out in present day? I know we don’t really have an explanation for how our world knew these stories 100s of years before they apparently happened, (really wish they’d explain that some time), but all the stories we know of have still at least played out in our past, so it’d be switching it up up if the story of The Wizard of Oz is only just now happening, in real time. But the story elements could match up pretty perfectly, considering Rumple’s current state.
ETA: Maybe they could make him Wizard2.0? So he ends up in Oz, and the original Wizard is long gone, but Rumple finds all his stuff, and starts using it, trying to find a way to make some magic? Would be sorta similar to how Neal found Rumple’s castle and used stuff there to locate Emma and Henry and get back to them.

ParticipantYa know, with no Neal in NYC, if she does use their dreamcatcher in any way to restore her memories and help break the Curse, she’s gonna do that all on her own. She won’t even need him there in order to remember him, and the love she has for him. Which I think will make it more powerful, because he won’t be there to influence her, which means anything she remembers feeling for him, it’s gonna be completely her own decision. And then she gonna go find him again, and we’re gonna get the best reunion hug ever.

ParticipantYet, Emma and Hook have never really even really spent a “normal” day together on dry land. In fact, I think if Hook actually were to spend a good portion of time in SB or NYC without any pressing danger to face he’d eventually grow bored out of his mind!
This! When you think about how long he’s known her, how much time he’s actually spent with her, and the situations they’ve been in, he hasn’t had the opportunity to really get to know the real her. And he would absolutely be bored out of his skull if he was landlocked for forever. I’ve actually been wondering if they might have him make a comment about missing the sea and his ship when we see him riding a horse around FTL.
It is unavoidable and if the writers DO avoid it, I am going to be irate. It HAS to come up. Put aside shippy end-game-ness. This is a huge step in the character development of Emma. She is walking in Neal’s shoes. She has to be able to see that and then at least TALK to him about it.
They have suggested that the topic of Emma having gone to jail will be coming up again at some point. Wonder if that could have something to do with the aftermath of her remembering everything and making this realisation?

ParticipantIf you think about it though, the original curse that Regina cast was like the tornado in the Wizard of Oz in that it lifted everyone from one world and plopped them in another.
Portals are tornado-ish too. Rumple: “My gods, boy! It’s like a tornado!” I’ve always wondered if they designed them that way inspired by the tornado from Wizard of Oz.
Phee
ParticipantI think the writers are clearly going to give Emma and Neal even more empathy and understanding for one another in the future knowing what it means to make huge self-sacrifices of the people they love.
It’s sort of an unavoidable consequence, given the situation they’ve set up now. This NewCurse sucks for SF because they’re separated and she doesn’t remember him, but it’s beneficial for SF because she’ll ultimately be able to understand him on a whole other level. Like, there’s really no way around it, she’s been in almost the exact same situation he was, so if she was still holding onto any sort of animosity over how he’d left her, after this experience, she’ll get it, and that animosity will evaporate, and they’ll bond over their shared experience, and it will bring them closer together.
Phee
Participantwell here is a totally random thought. What if they aren’t in SB but SB came to them?
You know I’ve been a fan of SB getting relocated to FTL for a while now.
They’re all in FTL clothing when they land back there though, so I dunno that the whole town would have been transported?
Anything is possible at this point! In fact I like the idea of HOUSES landing in the EF, and somehow that is triggering the WWw as in Oz original it is a house that lands on the WWe that kills her.
That’s a fun idea!
