He may not have physically forced her into doing it against her will, but he did use the situation to talk her into doing it. Had he not have said anything, I don’t believe that it would have even crossed Emma’s mind to kiss him. I don’t think that moment would have happened if he hadn’t have prodded her like that. He essentially dared her to do it, maybe not expecting she would, given their history of him flirting and her rolling her eyes. And he certainly didn’t expect it to be anything that intense.
Emma may not have expected to offer up a kiss that intense either, but given how wound up and overwhelmed she is by everything that’s happening right now: Henry missing, Pan screwing with her, her father having almost died, Neal having actually died (as far as she knows) and being surrounded by reminders of him in that cave. Add it all up and Emma was like a fully loaded air compressor, and once the valve got released in that kiss moment when she was physically connecting with someone in an intimate way, all the pent up EVERYTHING came rushing out and she got lost in the moment and just went for it. I think that’s what JMo meant when she called it a “very human moment.”

I think while they are on the quest to find this Sextant that they need to break the code of Neal’s map They also discover the plant needed to heal Charming. They use it and Charming is healed.
I’m 97% sure that whatever Hook saves Charming from in this ep, it’s not the poison. I think that by releasing this particular sneak peek it was two birds with one stone: promote the kiss, and also trick the audience into thinking that Charming’s gonna be cured, but he’s actually not, and Hook’s still the only one who knows he’s poisoned.
Part of the reason I think that is that they just wouldn’t spoil it if Charming is really gonna get cured. Part of the reason is that I think it’s too soon for them to wrap up the poison storyline. Part of the reason is I don’t think Hook was lying when he said there was no cure in existence, so whatever happened back in the day will conclusively show that there really is no cure, (at least not one that’s accessible to them). And part of the reason is that I’d love for Emma to be the one who saves her father with her magic.
If they do intend to make this plant the flower from Tangled, they could give another nod to the story as well if they have Emma’s tears heal her father, just like Rapunzel’s magical tears healed Flynn, who had just died. It’d make for a beautiful father/daughter moment. They’re not at a stage in the story where they could have that moment yet though, Emma’s still feeling too emotionally distanced from her parents. So I think Charming’s gonna remain poisoned and will get all the way to being mostly dead, (we’ve already got a Princess Bride reference in the kiss scene, so why not throw another into the story too) and only at the last moment, when all hope seems lost, will Emma save him.
Just had a thought about the sextant. I wonder if it’s buried with Liam? Hook told Charming that he wasn’t getting off the island alive, which means Liam is probably buried there, and his personal affects were probably buried with him. If Liam used it to navigate their way to NL back in the day, perhaps that’s why Hook thinks they’ll be able to use it to get away as well? Aaaaannnd now I’ve bummed myself out thinking of Hook having to exhume his brother’s grave.

They do look pretty similar. Not as creepily identical as young Robert Carlyle and Jared are, but I could still believe that these two are related.
Was good to see some context for the kiss. Not so good to see Hook reverting like that, but nevertheless, I think it fits for his character. He’s been holding back and playing nice for a few days, and let’s not forget that it really has only been a few days, which isn’t really long enough to break a 300 year bad habit. So when he saw a chance, he went for it. It was skeezy, it was piratey, it was typical Hook. It’s gonna take something BIG for something in him to snap and for any change to actually stick, and I think that reality check for him will come when he discovers Nealfire is alive. With Bae dead as far as he’s concerned, it’s probably a bit easier for him to ignore his conscience and coerce Bae’s ex girlfriend into kissing him. But once he knows that Bae is alive, and he’s standing right in front of him, I like to think he’ll have an, “Oh crap, I did a douchebag thing,” moment.
I like to think that right now, he is actually conflicted if he’s being honest with himself, and I think that’s what the “As you wish,” was meant to indicate. He’s doing his typical, skeezy thing, but at the same time, part of him really does feel something for Emma. Westley would say, “As you wish,” in place of, “I love you,” and while I don’t think that Hook is full on in love with her at this stage, I do think he’s considering the possibility that it could happen.
Then there’s also the issue of what was mentioned over in the sneak peek thread, that we’re suspecting it’s not actually that he’s saved Charming from the poison, it’s some other life threatening situation, so Emma’s thanking him for saving her father’s life, but Hook knows that actually, her father’s still dying. If that’s the case, I’d like to think that’s gonna eat him up a bit inside, and maybe it’ll force him to reveal the truth. He’s also still keeping secrets about his relationships with both Milah and Bae, and also with Pan. He knows he’s keeping all of this from Emma. He knows he’s being dishonest with someone he’s actually developing feelings for. And he’s coercing her into kissing him because it’s something he wants for himself. The scenes following the kiss will be very telling as to how Hook really feels about what he’s done, and I’m hoping that this kiss will actually trigger some introspection and change for him.
I guess that’s why I can’t be too mad about it right now. But I’ll be disappointed in him if he just carries on like it’s no biggie.
As for Emma’s attitude about the whole thing, I read it as, “Fine, one time if it’ll make you STFU.” She did get pretty into it once it had started, but that honestly doesn’t really surprise me. She’s totally strung out, feeling desperate and alone, mourning the death of the man she loves, and suddenly she’s engaged in some intense, close, physical contact with someone. It was a release for her. All the stress, and the torment and the loss she’s been overwhelmed with, that kiss was an outlet for it. And I’d guess she might actually beat herself up a bit for having used Hook like that, in case she gave him the wrong idea.
Whoopi Goldberg is a huge score for the show. Wow! Can’t wait to hear her and see the Rabbits’ story.
This could either be a career maker or a career breaker, depending on how cheesy the movie ends up being. If it’s actually done well, and received and reviewed well, then Jamie’s gonna get massive, positive press all over the world, which would be a big boost for his career. If it ends up being totally cheesy and horrible and gets reviewed really poorly, then the world’s media will be talking crap about him instead.
He’s totally capable of getting his gear off in front of a camera and having it be classy and HAWT instead of tacky, as anyone who’s seen his underwear model shots can attest to. But photos are different to live action, and I haven’t read the books, but I imagine there’s a risk of the dialogue coming across as rather tacky in the movie.
Oh, JMo, don’t ever attempt a British accent again. I know it was supposed to sound off like Emma was trying and failing to imitate him, but GAH. 😆
The Princess Bride line was a perfect fit, because they’ve said before that there’s some influence from that movie in the characterisation of Hook. It also fits because Westley would say it instead of saying, “I love you,” when Buttercup wasn’t really aware of what he felt for her, which I think fits the current CS dynamic.
Revealing in a spoiler that Charming is healed is kind of a big deal. Although I am 100% on the “Hook and Charming venture off to find the map but accidentally find the flower to heal dreamshade” ship, that is a big plot line they just let slip. So I can absolutely see this being about a lost boys fight
In the case that this is a lost boys fight, then Hook just convinced Emma to kiss him for saving her fathers life when in all actuality he is keeping it from her that he is slowly dying anyway.
Yep. I’m totally on board with Hook having saved Charming from some other life threatening situation, (possibly one that Charming had put himself in so he could die in an “accident” and Hook wouldn’t have to lie to everyone about how he’d died), and the poison is still doing its thing. And yeah, if that’s the case, and Emma thanks him like this for having saved him, but then later finds out he was keeping the real truth from her, (along with the truth about Milah, and the truth about what happened between him and Nealfire), I can’t imagine that’s gonna bode well for his chances of getting a second kiss.
Hook totally coerced his way into getting that kiss, but I’m not mad about it, because it’s piratey and totally in character. Was good to see it in some context.
Also, because I’m 12, Emma’s line about him going to get some firewood before coming back to camp made me giggle. If anyone needs me, I’ll be in the gutter. 😛
