I’ve been thinking a bit about Emma’s emotional state for the start of the next season. I’ve decided she’s in a “Sarah Conner” from Terminator headspace. The scene of Emma doing pushups in the preview is very Sarah Conner in Terminator 2. It’s an iconic movie moment.
Emma put up those walls and went right back to business, which is similar to what Sarah does, turning herself into a very tough person with a goal to protect her son and wreck stuff to prevent the robotic doom ahead. She doesn’t mourn or flirt, just gets stuff done. Like Sarah does eventually, Emma is going to see the humanity in those who were previously her enemy, but I don’t think that has to be romantic. Sarah’s bond with the T-800 certainly wasn’t! Yet it IS a bond.
That’s an excellent way to describe her current mindset! Emma is SO Sarah Connor!
I know Emma is going to get closer to ALL the villains through this adventure. Part of that is going to involve actors getting in each other’s personal space and locking eyes. Screwball Ninja has another awesome essay where she talks about how OUAT confuses her, as to who is supposed to be attracted to each other. She uses Ruby/Red’s reactions to various characters as an example.
I think it is going to be tough for Swanfire fans as things unfold. Most of it won’t be because of what’s actually happening plot-wise, but how it gets interpreted and played up in media and fan reactions when taken out of context of everything we know about the characters and their motivations. Context is usually complicated, and when people simplify, a lot gets lost.
Agreed with all of that. Generally, patience ain’t my thing, but in the case of SwanFire, I know I’m gonna have to have me some serious patience, because it won’t be happening immediately, in fact quite the opposite will likely be happening in the immediate future.
Saw ScrewballNinja’s latest post last night. It’s so true that so much is subjective interpretation. If I watch a scene with shipper goggles on, then naturally I’m gonna interpret things differently. All through my recent re-watch of both seasons, I never saw anything between Regina and Emma that I could interpret as eye sex, but other people see it all the time. Same goes for CS, too. Some people interpret how they look at each other in a romantic way. I personally don’t see it, but I can see that they have a connection, so if they do decide to make it romantic, it won’t be completely out of the blue and out of character IMO. For other people, they don’t even see that much of a connection between them yet, so it would be completely out of the blue.
On the flipside, some people don’t see anything remotely romantically emotional in the way Neal and Emma have looked at each other. Others see it all the time. The little glances and subtle reactions. I look at that reasoning, look at the gifs, and to me it seems completely undeniable that there’s romantic emotion between Emma and Neal. Others no doubt think that the breakdown of that scene is reading too much into it and makes no sense.It all comes back to personal perspective and what you wanna see in a scene. I fully expect to enjoy Emma’s scenes with Hook in S3, but I’ll enjoy them from a whole different point of view to what a CS shipper will.
All the same, I can’t see Emma thinking of her Happy Ending as adventuring and exploring or living in a castle. I think she wants a house on a beach, parking spot for her yellow bug, and her family, parents and Henry, and the man she loves and has her back, nearby, in SB. I think that’s going to be Neal right now. And the idea of the two of them creating a home for kids like them, lost and abandoned, that’s so beautiful.
My thinking with them ending up back in FTL is that while neither Neal or Emma are particularly enthused by living there, and love their real world conveniences, at the end of the day, I don’t really see the rest of their family, or any of the SBers, being able to integrate into our world properly. They all fit better back in FTL. And really, neither Neal or Emma appear to have any personal connections to the real world that would influence them to stay there, especially if their family wants to leave.
Whatever kind of building they end up living in, it absolutely must be near a beach, because…

This is why I want them to build their home across the water from Snow and Charming’s castle, because there’s a little beach there, and Emma can still live near her parents. (I may or may not have thought about this a bit too much. :-P)

I think Emma will be the leader of the group but she will take on board any advice Hook has for her. Since Rumple will be off doing his own thing, the other 5 will be the ones having disagreements amongst themselves, particularly Snowing and Regina. Hook will most likely be the second in command since he has actual experience of Neverland and the Lost Ones.
Agreed. Other spoilers have suggested that Emma will be the one to eventually lead them all. And I think she’s gonna start to give Hook more of a chance to prove trustworthy, (he may have run off with the bean in ASOTM, but he did also bring it back), and she knows he has knowledge of NL, so it makes sense to listen to his advice.
So really, these qualities can probably be rationalized to apply to all of them on the ship.
You outlined each point perfectly in that post. I love Hook, but those traits are all hardly unique to him.
They could kill off Hook this season perhaps by PP’s hand. It would tie into the traditional PP/Hook rivalry and also show just dangerous PP is. At some point they are going to have to kill off a main character for real rather than doing fake outs just to show that any one could die.
I reckon NL will have enough death without them having to kill of Hook as well. Odds are, both of GOAT are gonna end up dead. They’re not main characters, but they’re characters we’re pretty familiar with. Felix may also end up biting it. And I also suspect they’re gonna basically kill off the Dark One…the power, not Rumple physically…but it would still essentially be the death of a major character. Killing Hook as well may be (dare I say) overkill.
There is the idea that Hook’s story is tied to NL, and so once they’re done with NL, he’s no longer useful, but I think they could still write story for him moving forward. If Rumple does indeed end up losing his Dark One powers, then Hook’s nemesis is basically dead, but he wasn’t the one to kill him, and he’ll have to come to terms with that. They can also show him trying to build a relationship with Neal, and also give him a new romance. If they’re gonna go off adventuring in yet another world in the future, his ship really is a convenient vessel to get a bunch of main cast through a portal all at once. Or even just to transport people quickly between different places in FTL, or to have knowledge about different parts of FTL, if they all end up back there. Odds are he’s explored more of that world than any of the rest of them have, sailing all over on the JR to all those “glittering shores”, so I can see him still being relevant.
What can they do to change things up in a way that WOULD be shocking? That would rearrange a lot of the character relationships? I think making Henry or Neal evil might do it. The Dark One curse might transfer to one of them. Looking at MRJ’s resume, I have to say, he’s no stranger to playing the dark characters. That could be why they tapped him (or maybe it was because he had experience being a hated character? I didn’t watch True Blood so not sure what the fandom thought, but I heard he was a serial killer.)
I think it’d be more believable to see Henry go dark, instead of Neal. After everything he’s been through in his long life, if Neal hasn’t gone dark already, it ain’t ever gonna happen. In another thread recently, there was some discussion about the possibility of Henry struggling with some magic of his own during his teens, and going dark, and how everyone around him would deal with that. I think that could be a really interesting storyline.
I agree that ABC really needs to be careful on promoting Hook too much. We don’t want the audience to become sick of him. I think ABC is pushing Hook because they want to promote Neverland and they can’t use Peter Pan or Tinkerbell yet. Maybe once Peter Psn starts being promoted Hook’s will decrease.
This is probably a big part of it, I’d say. They did release that pic of Tink recently, but they still don’t wanna reveal too much about her motivations and who she’s working with, and they’re being very secretive about PP, so Hook is the big, iconic, NL related character they can blatantly promote right now.

To be fair, Eddy said that they might try it. Not that they do or that it works. But I do think it’s a logical step. They gotta learn that Neal is alive somehow.
I’d actually rather they don’t find out before he gets out of FTL. I’d rather see him fighting to get outta there without the help of anyone from the outside. And I wanna see him pop up in SB and/or NL completely unannounced, for the shock value for other characters.
If they do intend to build up the closeness of CS before Neal turns up alive, if they find out pretty quickly via a dream that he’s still alive, then that shortens the amount of time that CS will be bonding while being oblivious to Neal still being a factor in both of their lives. And I’d imagine they’ll wanna build up CS a decent amount so there’ll be a decent amount of tension when Neal eventually shows up.
Ya know, no matter who’s heart it is, if it’s been taken for the purpose of killing someone, (which I’m guessing because we know Regina has a kill coming up), and if said kill happens in front of Emma, and if she sees how a person reacts to having their heart squeezed and turned to ash, and if that doesn’t give her a moment of, “OMG that IS what happened to Graham,” I’ll be a bit annoyed.
Saw the rumoured page posted on tumblr just before & figured it looked pretty fake. If you clicked on it, it came up as a bunch of little separate images of text, and they clearly weren’t of a scanned page, which you’d think a leaked script would be posted as. Glad Adam cleared it up.
Sort of a bummer though, because it was a Belle/Grumpy scene, and I’m looking forward to some of those. Oh well. She is not yet the EQ in the pic with Tink. This is the moment she became the EQ…
…and the pic with Tink came before that. The article may have used “Evil Queen” as a general way to address her character. Or perhaps we’ll see her continuing to interact with Tink after she becomes the EQ. Maybe they kept in touch even after Tink went to NL, and that’s the reason that EQ Regina already knew all about Hook when he showed up at her castle. But the pic proves that Regina first knew Tink before she became the EQ, possibly before she began to learn any magic at all.Higher res version of the pic!
