I hadn’t really noticed it until I saw this gif on tumblr…

Looks to me like a hole through the tail, with the light shining through it from above.

Think the shot of the Shadow flying is an old shot from when he dropped Bae in the water.

Speaking of old footage in the new promo…

    http://stilesism.tumblr.com/post/60034889759/there-you-go-regina-in-2×15-and-regina-in-the

The silhouette that Emma appears to be talking to in the new footage does seem like it could fit Regina’s hair…

…but then, if she’s talking to Regina, why go to the trouble of digging up a shot from an old ep instead of just using a shot from the new scene? Emma probably wouldn’t talk to her parents that way. Rumple has probably gone off on his own. Which leaves Hook, (standing next to Regina, whose hair we see). I could see Emma wanting to charge off and find Henry, and Hook tries to give some advice, because he knows not only the lay of the land, but also what the Lost Ones are like, so he thinks they should slow down and think for a minute, and Emma snaps back, “Help me get my son back, or get out of the way.”

One other thing I noticed, one of those mermaids appears to have a hole blown through her tail, so I’m guessing one of those cannons hits its mark. Doesn’t seem to have slowed her down though.

Squares 1 and 2: the starting position for a pawn. A Pawn can move two squares the first time, and only the first time. I think squares one an two might be FictionalLondon and SB, respectively. We know that Alice starts present day in FictionalLondon and then moves to SB and Granny’s (we think).

Dunno that Alice ever goes to SB. Think it’s just the Bunny popping up in Granny’s, getting the Knave, and then they go down the rabbit hole in Granny’s floor, to FictionalLondon to bust Alice out.

Square 5: “mostly water” Anyone else think NL? I wonder if Ariel might pop back up…

    This square must have mermaids.

Question is though, how many of these “squares” will need to be passed through in present day, or will some of them only be in flashback? I get the impression that Alice and Cyrus were off adventuring all over the place back when they were together, before RQ showed up and wrecked their fun. So maybe the “squares” in the game in the book are all about Alice and Cyrus’ previous adventures and the lands they went to, and the present day game will be a completely new one?

The first time I saw him telling Bae the story about his father, I was practically yelling, “LIIIIIEEEESSSS” at the screen. Over time, I’ve thought about it too much though, and reckon it could make for an interesting storyline if it’s true, or at least what Hook believes to be the truth of what happened.

Also, I don’t see a mid-30′s actor playing against Colin as a father either. A brother or friend, on the other hand, works perfectly. IT could also parallel some betrayal in present day storyline too, if that skeleton key clue was a nod to the storyline in the episode we saw the key.

Depends if they intend to age Colin down, and if so, how far they push it. If they wanna make him around 18, that makes a mid-30s father possible. I do also like the brother idea though, and also the “not even related, just a father figure type” idea as well. The fact that they specified Liam’s hair colour makes me think he’s likely to be a blood relation. If they’re brothers, it could be that the older brother left the family to go into military service, and Killian only goes to find him after both of their parents are gone? Liam’s the “good” son who became an honourable, military man, and Killian’s the “bad” son who became a pirate?

Did they say we’ll get to know how he became a pirate, or just backstory in general?

They said we’ll find out how he became a pirate within the first 5 eps.

There’s all of 5 seconds of new footage in that new promo, but it still made my day, mostly because half a second of it was MERMAIDS! 🙂

I like that idea! Killian thinks his father was a fugitive who abandoned him, but actually, he was an honourable man who was eliminated by the corrupt King he served.

The castle that George, and then Snowing, live in is completely surrounded by water. Seems it’d be sensible for that kingdom to have a naval fleet, so the castle could be defended from all sides if need be. Also, that castle is an iconic point of reference in the Onceiverse, so if they showed Liam, on a ship, (possibly the JR), with that castle in the background, it’d be a very quick way for them to establish exactly where in FTL that part of the story is taking place, and instantly give it relevance to present day.

I’d never thought about any of this before my previous post, and now that it’s in my brain, I can’t get it out. 😆

Now I really wanna see young Killian sailing past that castle, wearing a uniform with the Charming’s family crest emblazoned on it. Or maybe he’s part of the crew of pirates that overtake one of the kingdom’s ships, and thus assisted in screwing over the Charming’s ancestors, and now here they are depending on him, (and possibly the ship he helped steal from their family back in the day), so heavily in present day.

Maybe Captain Liam was dodgy, serving in the Navy, but secretly privateering for someone else, and he steals the ship, and Killian was his first mate at the time, so he kept him on and they went pirating together. Or if Liam was Killian’s father, again, he was dodgy, and he disappeared because he’d made a deal with pirates, who then overtook the ship, and killed everyone except Killian, who was all angry after having just been abandoned by his father, and was fighting back like he had no care for his own life, and the pirate Captain was impressed by that, and then we can get the Dread Pirate Roberts type situation we’ve previously discussed, to show how Killian became a pirate. And because that’s how he got into that life, that’s where his, “a man unwilling to fight for what he wants, deserves what he gets” mentality comes from.

Could be a fun little nod to PotC if they have the JR, fastest ship in all the realms, having belonged to the Royal Navy until it was overtaken by pirates, just like the Interceptor, fastest ship in the Royal Navy (under the rule of a King George, no less), was overtaken by pirates in PotC. (The same ship they use as the JR was also used as the Interceptor in PotC, which is why my brain went off on that little tangent.)

Were we going to get Charming’s father’s backstory too? What if it ties in to Hook’s backstory? I mean, why would King George be happy with some random peasant’s baby boy?

They have suggested we’ll get more of Charming’s backstory at some point, which I assume will involve his father. His father wouldn’t be old enough to have known Killian though, there’s a 250-odd year gap in there.

I would LOVE for Josh to make an appearance on the show. He’s gonna be on Intelligence now though, so assuming that show becomes a success, he couldn’t have a major role on Once too. Maybe they can arrange a 2 for the price of 1 deal and snag Josh as a bonus whenever they manage to snag Meghan back temporarily.

“Navy” does feel like a familiar, real world term. But really, it’s just a generic term for a maritime war force, so any land/world that has armies can also have navies.

When it comes to seeing an army on the show, it’s pretty much always been George’s. Regina’s got her men in black, but we’ve seen George’s troops in full uniform, wearing the family crest and all. Makes me wonder if perhaps the Navy that Liam was in, also belonged to George’s kingdom, so they can keep that theme going of showing military wearing that crest, to tie it all together?

If young Killian is associated with Liam, (either because they’re family, or just because he was a part of his crew), and they were in the Navy that served George’s kingdom, (several generations before George was alive of course), that would be a way back connection for Hook to the present day Charming family, (who inherited the armed forces of George’s kingdom when they took over).

Yeah, it wasn’t an official press release from ABC, but it was confirmed officially enough by SpoilerTV.
