ParticipantI’m okay with waiting to see the clip. I’m curious about the panel video.
Wouldn’t say I’m OK with waiting, but I’m resigned to waiting. Really wish someone would upload the panel though, because there shouldn’t be any restrictions on that.
Oh, and yes, the cost is nuts. I’ve been to North America twice on fangirly business but never actually tallied up the accurate total spent, coz it was too scary.

ParticipantAriel should be included in that list too. The comment I saw on tumblr said that they’d mentioned no new characters since what was revealed at CC. And they wouldn’t have made a teaser for her if she wasn’t gonna be in the first half of the season.

ParticipantAnother thought regarding what I said in my previous post…
Maybe Rumple’s parents both died when their house burned, and this straw doll was the only thing that little Rumple was able to salvage. Tink popped up to take Rumple to live with his brother in NL, now that their parents were gone. But Rumple doesn’t want to stay, and when he gets back to FTL, after however long, doesn’t really matter how long because everyone assumed he’d died in the fire with his parents when he couldn’t be found, he’s an orphan, and goes to live with the spinsters.
I’d like there to be a reason August typed rather than said Baelfire.
So the audience wouldn’t be clued in yet. 😉 Seriously, I reckon that’s the only reason it was done that way. Think I’m the only person alive who doesn’t have a problem with that reveal, because it’s almost exactly what I’d guessed it’d be. 😛

ParticipantI still reckon the doll was Rumple’s. Something made for him by one of his parents, probably not long before they died. He had it with him when he went to NL as a boy, and he lost it while he was there. When he got back home, maybe that’s when he got sent to live with the spinsters, (if they keep that history, but c’mon how could they not because Rumple being raised by spinsters is too perfect), and wasn’t able to take any momentos with him. It’s been 300-odd years since he saw or touched something that reminded him of his parents and his childhood. That time in his life when he was young and pure and innocent. If he’s falling to his knees and crying, it’s over something he wasn’t prepared for. He’s prepared for thinking about Bae, is probably thinking about him constantly because he’s currently on a mission to save Bae’s son. If he lost this doll as a child, he wouldn’t be expecting to see it again, and it would trigger this reaction when it’s thrust right into his hands.

ParticipantSaw someone on tumblr say that filming wasn’t allowed and that’s why there’s no vid of the Rumple scene online, but this person hadn’t been there themselves, and I haven’t seen it mentioned anywhere else. Though Adam did reply to someone who tweeted that they “just saw the teaser” and he asked where they saw it. Turns out by “teaser” they just meant a promo on ABC, but the fact that Adam wanted to find out where they saw it makes me wonder if there was some rule mentioned about no one recording it and posting it?

ParticipantI wonder how many new characters they might add to the story.
Apparently it was mentioned at D23 that they don’t intend to introduce any more new characters in the first 11, apart from the ones already announced. I haven’t been able to track down anything to officially confirm what was said, (this is why we need vid of the panel…angiebelle, do you remember if this was mentioned?), but I remember seeing it mentioned in the chat here, and I’ve also seen it mentioned in a comment on a tumblr post.

ParticipantI think it makes the most sense then that Rumpel came to NL for the curse either before Bae showed up there, or that he didn’t realize Bae was there when he came. PP of course would not have told Rumpel he had his son and Rumpel would not have said why he wanted the curse.
If Rumple went to NL to pick up the Curse, I’d guess it was after Bae arrived there. There was only 6 months between Bae leaving Rumple, and arriving in NL. I guess technically that’s enough time for Rumple to find out that the Curse exists, but then why spend a couple hundred years setting it up? There wasn’t another true love couple around in the couple hundred years pre-Snowing?
Anyway…what I was saying was Rumple appears to know that Bae has been running from him. I can see one of the trips being to Neverland and Bae realizes Rumple is there and that is the impetus for him to flee to our world. How he gets here, I don’t know. But Neal knew his dad was searching for him, and he didn’t want to be found.
I’ve always wondered how we were meant to interpret those quotes you listed. Like you said, it sounds a bit like they’ve been playing a game of hide and seek. But could it also just be Neal’s way of saying, “Ever since I went down the beanhole, he hasn’t known where I am, and I’d like to keep it that way,” and Rumple’s way of saying, “It’s been a really long time since I let him go and we haven’t seen each other since.” I think it could go either way.

ParticipantI think they can show a young boy dressed in white, blue cloak that is not fancy peasant garb, on a ship. The captain is chatting with the boy about how the war in his kingdom is finally ended and he can return home now, to meet his real parents, but then they’re interrupted with the warning that they are being boarded by pirates. The Captain (Davy Jones) says a pity that everyone abandoned ship, as he wanted a fight. Then he sees this boy left behind trying to fight the pirates off. He admires the bravery of the boy, says something about fighting for what you want, and says he won’t kill the boy if he will serve him. The boy says never, and the Captain laughs and says he’ll change his mind. Then we cut to Colin made up to look younger, fighting alongside the Captain as he’s dying, and its clear they have forged a bond by now, and he tells Killian Jones to take over the JR. So that tracks with the boy feeling his father abandoned him, his story to Bae not being entirely truthful and why he didn’t remember his royal background.
Something that suggests without stating openly that he is Eric.
Sounds pretty good to me! Though I also like the idea that if he has royal blood, he doesn’t know it, but it’s still a great story if he does know.
Then later they can flashback to Ariel just naming the guy Eric in a reverse of the scene in Little Mermaid where he guesses her name,
That would be fun!!
As for when Ariel meets Eric, I think it is post-Milah, and it involves how he got out of Nl. I think she met him there, and fell for him, and she struck a deal with Ursula/Regina. Hook leaves NL instead of choosing to be with her, in the traditional backfire, Ariel lets him go, pining away.. Hook knew about Belle in the tower, that Regina had her, but we don’t know how. Regina knew about Hook and his vengeance, but we do not know how.
This way Regina can be Ursula/Vanessa, without it being a romantic thing with Hook (just the usual flirty/dangerous vibe they have), she cuts a deal with Ariel that ends badly for Ariel, and Ariel is only pining for 28 or so years, not hundreds. What’s 28 years if you have true love as Charming said….but of course Hook never knew Ariel sacrificed something to let him escape. He never knew she loved him and saved him. And when she sees him again, she will misread his interactions with Emma and there’s angst, without there being an actual love rhombus.
My original headcanon, (I’m not even sure I have specific headcanon anymore with all the cool ideas everyone keeps bringing up), had them “meeting” way back when. If I were to align my original headcanon with that scenario you just outlined, I’d have him fall overboard in the middle of the battle and Ariel would come along and save him, but he’d be unconscious and never see her. So he wouldn’t know about her until after Milah, but she’d know about him since they were both 200andsomething years younger.
This is where I really wanna know if JMo’s slip was legit and Regina really does have a history in NL. She was talking about the mermaid in FTL, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that the mermaid was also in FTL at the time, but she could have been, because we don’t know she was never there at some point. If Ariel’s in NL and always has been, how does she even know about Regina in FTL to ask her for help? Or is Regina known in NL, and if so, how and why? Did Regina go to NL for something for herself, and if so, what? Part of me wants to say it could have been how she got the failsafe, but I dunno if the t-word would fit? My head hurts.
As for how Hook knew about Belle, I’ve been thinking that Maleficent told him, because if there’s one person Regina would have told about kidnapping the Dark One’s girlfriend, it’s her best frenemy, (and I’d love them to have a reason for another Malenficent flashback). That doesn’t explain Regina knowing about Hook though, but that could be solved with your suggestion that Regina helped Ariel to get to Hook. I like the twisty-ness of everything you proposed. Working in the nod to Eric/Vanessa with Hook/Regina is clever.
Looking at how many different ideas we can come up with for how stories could potentially play out, how on earth do K&H actually decide which cool ideas to go with as canon?
The year of Ariel….!
I don’t know when
I don’t know how
But I know something’s starting right now

ParticipantI think it is possible he was there as a young boy, but it is a richer story if he was there trying to get Bae. It parallels his current situation trying to get Henry.
The issue I have with Rumple being aware that Bae was in NL is that if Rumple knew that, and was actually in NL to get Bae, there’s no way Rumple would have left without him.
Unless he was forced to leave against his will, but even if so, why was Rumple trying to get to our world, if he knew Bae was in NL? Bae didn’t leave NL until after the Curse was cast.
The only way I could see it working is if PP lied and told Rumple that Bae had been in NL, but had since moved on to the land without magic.
But if Rumple thought that Bae had originally gone to a land without magic when he went down the beanhole, why would he have been seeking him out in other magic lands to begin with?
Doesn’t add up IMO. So I think if Rumple was there for some reason as an adult, he never had any idea that Bae was there.
I also think the doll could have been Bae’s as it didn’t seem big and could have been tucked inside a shirt. If you knew you had to leave behind all you knew, wouldn’t you take something as a memento that was small and easy to cary?
I totally would because I’m excessively sentimental about random objects. But even if so, why would he have had it in his pj pocket when he was taken by the Shadow? He wasn’t anticipating having to leave at that point in time, like he was with the beanhole, so he wouldn’t have had his keepsakes packed for a trip. Unless the Shadow went back for it later, being in Bae’s pj pocket was the only way it could get to NL.
