ParticipantNow I’ve got a mental image of Mary Poppins beating PP with her umbrella until he hands Bae over. LOL
Anyway, seriously speaking, apparently…
Disney owns the rights to the 1964 movie, but the not the name and image of Mary Poppins.
The family and heirs of Pamela Lyndon Travers, author of the Mary Poppins book series own the image and rights.

ParticipantGreat post! First up, for the record, around these forums we usually use the acronym THO as short hand for The Home Office, so if you see that around the place, that’s what that’s about.
My own personal thinking on THO has been that The Darlings founded it to find Bae and PP is the one currently in control of it, maybe with some Wizard of Oz (whose “magic” was really more like the “science” of illusion) and/or Dorothy thrown into the mix along the way, and your theory doesn’t really gel with that, but I’m not 100% committed to any one theory yet, and you’ve got some cool ideas here.
That point is necessary because I theorize that, in response to seeing what these beings could do, a group of people frightened by what they saw banded together to study magic, its origins, and how to stop it–the very first “home base,” if you will. Typically, in stories like these, the cliche is to make this group part of a church or other religious organization who are concerned that this new force will weaken their control over the people. Here, however, I think it can just as easily be a group of scientists afraid of what magic would do here on Earth. This would also fit in the conflict between science and magic that we’ve already seen demonstrated by Frankenstein and Rumpelstiltskin.
I’m hoping they bring Viktor into this storyline in present day SB to keep exploring the science vs magic theme. Wasted opportunity if they don’t. The history of science goes back a long way, so they could certainly have the origins of this “battle” between science and magic be a very old and ingrained thing, and along the way, TeamScience has been able to gain a considerable amount of knowledge on how to counteract TeamMagic.
I think this whole assumption that all magical beings are dangerous will be a central focus of Season 3, and that it could resolve in either Greg or Tamara experiencing something that will change their viewpoint and get them to switch sides.
I’d like to see that happen, (there are a few posts in another thread that ponder how Greg may be the more likely one to switch teams). That theme could be expanded on in various ways. We already know that the characters in this show aren’t black and white, they’re varying shades of grey, and having GOAT (another acronym used around here = Greg/Owen And Tamara), who currently have very black and white views on magic actually come around to seeing the shades of grey would be in keeping with that and would expand on the idea more. Especially if at the same time we’re seeing the Charmings having to deal with using less than pure means to save Henry, (we know they’ll continue on talking about the state of Snow’s heart). It will all tie together quite nicely to raise questions of “what is really good and what is really evil and is it really that clear cut after all?” Also, ever since mermaids were mentioned being dangerous, I’ve figured it’s a setup for Ariel to come along and be the exception, and if so, that would play into the black/white views theme too.
Thanks to a combination of something we learned at the end of Season 2 and my memories of a key element in “The Golden Compass” novel/film, I now believe that Peter Pan is, in fact, a victim of this procedure–either as a test subject for an early prototype of the process or as an unintended mishap of it. I think he somehow found himself lost in our world when he was captured by “home base” and subjected to this procedure. When it was over, though, the magical part of Peter didn’t just disappear: it continued to exist as a separate entity…HIS SHADOW! A side-effect of the procedure could be that now Peter can rrrrrrrrriiiiiiiiiipppppppp other people’s magical abilities (manifesting in their shadows) away from them.
This is a really cool idea! Assuming the Shadow is PP’s, (which we don’t have confirmed yet, but I’m in the camp who is assuming it), there has to be a story to how they got separated. An experiment by THO gone wrong would be a delightfully dark way for it to have happened. And would also parallel what happened when Viktor tried to “fix” Gerhardt with science, and instead ended up creating a monster.
Here’s where I start to lose the theory, as the only follow-up I can think of is that Peter has been looking for a way to get back his magic (reattach his shadow) and that, for some reason, Henry is the only way for that to happen? Not sure about that, but I think it works with what we know from the existing Peter Pan story as well as the info we’ve gotten about this darker version of him in Once.
I’ve had a little pet theory that PP is after Henry as a means to regain his humanity, which doesn’t really fit with this theory. I think at the end of the day, PP needs Henry to “complete” himself somehow, whatever that ends up meaning.
There are a bunch of ideas being thrown around right now and we’re really all just guessing. I’d like for S3 to start now so we can get some more actual info, pretty please.

ParticipantSince next year is the 50th anniversary of the release of Mary Poppins, I’d love to see them do a Mary Poppins episode and include a brief cameo of Dick Van Dyke and Julie Andrews, even if we only saw them for 5 seconds standing on a street corner.
Back when we first saw Bae hanging out in London, I wondered if maybe the Darlings lived in the same London as the Banks family. Of course, since then we’ve had the whole RealLondon/FictionalLondon business between OUAT/Wonderland, so who knows which one the Banks family would live in.
But if at some point we were to go back to the Darlings in RealLondon, it would be kinda fun if they knew the Banks’. Like, maybe Wendy is friends with Jane Banks who lives down the street, and Wendy is telling Jane about how PP came and took Bae away and she wishes she could find him and bring him back, and Jane is all, “Maybe our magical nanny Miss Poppins knows something that could help with that.” 😉

ParticipantAnd, further, the Charmings might ok with some of the things Hook, Rumple and Regina do because they want Henry back. I think a lot of S3 is going to be watching some of the heroes tread that fine line between good and evil.
Yes! That could be one of our big themes for S3, exploring that fine line between doing actual evil, and bending the rules just enough so the end justifies the means.
Tamara totally deserves an unhappy ending, but I don’t think I can cheer if it happens in a way that sort of condones our villains using their powers out of anger and frustration. I want to see them continue to redeem themselves–if they must slip, then they do, but it should definitely be acknowledged as a slip and they should pay for it in some way. So maybe Greg would have flipped and helped them, but they kill Tamara, and so he destroys something that would have given them an advantage. Something like that–I want the bad acts to continue to bite the people who do them. It can be fun to cheer our main characters achieving victory and payback, but for me, I want to see their characters growing in some way.
Oh I wouldn’t expect a heart ripping to be Tamara’s death, I’m just imagining that Regina rips out her heart so she has control over her and can force her to cough up info and help them. I do hope that Regina doesn’t keep killing people whenever she has a tantrum, because she needs to learn that that’s not the way to deal with her problems. But if she’s just taking Tamara’s heart for a little while to control her, that’s a smackdown on par with the bodyslam Emma put on her. And I totally cheered for the bodyslam.

ParticipantI heard “True Love” by Pink on the radio the other day, and even though I don’t ship SwanQueen, I decided that if I did ship it this would totally be their theme song.

ParticipantThat was Walt. Walt was semi-important. He reappered in later seasons. He wasn’t like Henry who is really one of the central foci of the entire show.
Also, the storyline of LOST occurred over a more condensed timeframe, so it was a whole different situation where they actually couldn’t keep him around while the actor aged normally over several years.
I don’t get the controversy, either. Kids grow up. Yes, they’re in Neverland but I don’t think they’re going to be there for years so it shouldn’t be an issue. They already alluded to Henry growing up with Mr. Gold’s little dream about killing Henry on his birthday, so I don’t think it’s going to be that big of a deal.
Well, we dunno yet just how long they’re gonna be in NL, most are guessing at least half a season, I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s longer. Anyway, time in NL passes at a faster rate, so to speak. I just think it could be fun if they actually do use his growth spurt in the story somehow. Like, they could use it to sort of define just how much of a timey wimey discrepancy there is. If they get back to SB and to the SBers they’ve been gone a week, but Henry appears to have aged a year, that could help flesh out the laws of NL a bit in a cool way. (Of course, that’s assuming they wanted to write it as him being able to age in NL, but given he’s the only one who could age in SB, it would be consistent with his characterisation so far.)

ParticipantI think Greg is less committed to their cause than Tamara. His primary goal was always to find his father, and secondarily to exact revenge on Regina and destroy magic. Since it appears his father is dead, he may have less motivation to sacrifice Henry, especially if he begins to see echoes of his younger self in Henry. I wouldn’t be too surprised to see him switch sides and help the CharmMillsStiltskins rescue Henry.
Totally agreed with this, and frankly, I’m actually hoping that Greg does grow a conscience and flip sides now.
I can see Snow and Emma trying to question a defiant Tamara when an impatient Regina says “Enough of this!” and just rips out Tamara’s heart to force her to assist in the rescue, just as Cora used Aurora.
Can totally see that happening. And I’d probably cheer. And I’ve never cheered for Regina before.

ParticipantYes, I’d say the wings would have to be fairy related!
Phee
ParticipantEither way, I’d still love to see some interaction between them, because it’s sort of ridiculous if she never sees her father again when they’re living in the same little town, especially when she’s gonna be going through some stuff and feeling sort of alone without Rumple there. Seems natural that she’d go to see her dad at a time like this.

ParticipantAh OK. When the stuff in html showed up as it’s meant to appear in the visual editor, I just figured the same would go for the bbcode.
The issue of bbcode and html not working together with multiple quotes is an issue after the post is actually submitted though. There’s a bunch of excess html code that shows as text in the actual post.
