I have the feeling that all the last week spoilers are confusing us… We have read that Rumpelstiltskin made a vow that changes everything, blablabla…Maybe i’m wrong, since English isnot my native tongue and maybe i understood it wrong, but that last escene with the seer he says “then i just have to kill him”, that is to not a sort of vow, just a “why are you making a big deal of that? I know how to take care of myself, i’m the dark one!”

BUT, he swears to his newborn son not to leave him. (And this is the par i’m not sure i’ve understood well)
With all this I mean that maybe what changes things is that Mr.gold looking for his son is not only the act of a man who regrets leaving his son, but the fulfilment of a previus vow -something, in a magic-fantastic world, stronger even than feelings- and the last escene is just a “may be IF Henry turns out to be a threat in any sense, he could be in a danger” to which we are putting to much attention because of the sopilers.

As I said, maybe i understood it wrong, but, i don’t know, it is quite tricky.

The Seer suggested to Rumple that the boy would be his undoing, which he would have interpreted as, “the kid will destroy you, finish you off completely.” Things aren’t going too well with the reunion, and the Seer’s prediction was that the boy was gonna make things worse. At this moment in time, Rumple considers Henry to be an obstacle to reuniting with Bae. He decided long ago, that any obstacle to his goal would be taken out. So does he ignore the Seer’s warning, let Henry go about his merry way, and risk losing everything he’s worked 250 years to achieve?

Or does he take the time to consider an alternate meaning to the Seer’s prophecy, and realise that perhaps it’ll be Henry’s influence that will ultimately bring out the good in him, which will lead to the undoing of the Dark One, which will lead to Bae being open to reuniting with him? I think that right now, Rumple’s feeling too desperate to see that option.

Just seeing Manhattan made me wonder something. Bae’s hate for Rumpel is strong, and he also fears his magic. Rumpel might have been an asshole as the Dark One, but he was a good dad. So why would Bae just have bad memories of him.(or nearly all bad) unless someone was feeding them to him.

The bad was pretty bad, and it’s what led to the destruction of their relationship, so I can buy that those memories would override memories of the good years.

What if Hook acted as a dad to him… He is Milah’s son, after all. And it would be the ideal opportunity to fill him with hate towards his father. “Your mom killed your dad” is a pretty ideal way to do that. He joins the pirates to travel between lands and one day gets left behind.

This is one of the reasons I’ve been hoping that Bae was in Neverland, to see how Hook would relate to Milah’s son. Would he tell him about his father killing his mother? Or would he not want to lay that sort of torment on the kid? We’ve seen that he couldn’t destroy the shawl, because it was something Milah had made. Well, Milah made Bae too, that kid was part of her, so would Hook seek to destroy him? Or would he get to know him and nurture a friendship with him, so he could keep part of Milah in his life? Judging by his handling of the shawl, which was merely a piece of fabric she’d touched, I would imagine that Hook wouldn’t be able to bring himself to intentionally harm a kid who shared her blood.

That doesn’t necessarily mean that Bae didn’t find out about Rumple killing Milah though. Everyone on Hook’s crew knew what happened to her, so if Bae was hanging out around them in Neverland, chances are someone let it slip, even if Hook didn’t tell him directly.

I actually loved Rumple’s reaction to the Henry-is-Bae’s-son reveal. I mean, he starts off yelling at Neal and Emma like they’re two misbehaving teenagers (love their guilty exchange of looks) and then Henry walks in and it seems to finally click in Gold’s head. Then he just backs into the corner between the window and the bookcase and stares at everyone with this pained expression on his face for the rest of the scene. A second favorite would be Gold buying Henry a hot dog.

I’ve gone back and rewatched that scene several times now, and you are right- there is definitely a great reaction there. It was just so late in the episode that it left me wanting far more. I want an emotional, caring, “I have a grandson!” moment in which Gold shows tenderness towards Henry. We also haven’t yet seen Henry have the realization that Gold is his grandfather. Hopefully next ep!

Whilst a loving, grandfatherly realisation moment would be wonderful, there’s that pesky problem of how Rumple sorta swore to kill the kid who led him to his son. So now he’s got the problem of having sworn death on his grandson, who is supposed to be the one who’s gonna destroy him. Awkward much. 😕 I do hope we get to see Henry realise that Rumple is his grandpa though.

I’ve always just figured that Snow and Red’s sisterly bond was their way of acknowledging the story of Snow White and Rose Red. Mind you, the Onceiverse has mother and daughter Sleeping Beauties, so there’s no reason why there couldn’t also be mother and daughter Snow Whites.

I’ve entertained the idea before that Eva and Cora could have been sisters. If, as many have speculated, Cora is the one who killed Snow’s mother, there’s gotta be some reason for that, and the jealous sister angle could work quite nicely.

Short answer: For me, fiction needs to be internally consistent. It has to have some level of plausibility within the context of the story and world it inhabits. I am an atheist which means I don’t just accept things on faith alone. And that’s what the writers gave us tonight; an episode that said, “just accept this plot turn on faith, we cannot offer any rational explanation.” I can suspend my disbelief for Fantasy and Sci-Fi stories because they can be written with plausibility and consistency within their world.

And so, Bae meeting Emma on blind luck alone is so implausible it broke my belief in the story.

You don’t believe in faith? Then why are you watching this series in the first place? The whole point of the series is faith, fate and destiny. That’s the whole point of Fairy Tales in the first place. Good wins, evil loses, destiny happen, those who meant to be together, will be no matter what. And that’s what happened. Personally, and I think at least half the board is with me here, I saw it coming from a mile away. It’s what fairy tales are about.

Yeah, I’ve gotta agree. Not sure why someone who doesn’t believe in all that good stuff would have been attracted to a show like this in the first place. If I had that mindset, I’d have given up on it after ep1, given that the story was established as Emma’s journey to find faith so that she could fulfill her destiny.

I loved every moment of every heart wrenching NYC scene! The writing and acting was all perfection!

I’m not fussed on how easily the treasure map was found, because of all the places to hide it…seriously Belle?

Is it just me or does Cora seem less convincing when she’s in civvies, instead of her fabulous gown?

Yes, forced is a great word to describe Greg’s reactions. I don’t really get the big deal about his video either. Maybe it’s because it looked so fake anyways, and there’s tons of videos out there on YouTube of videos that have objects floating around that actually look more realistic, that I’m jaded by this subplot so far.

The person Greg was talking to probably never bothered to look at the video and just assumed it was another picture of his food.

    😆

I feel sympathy for Greg and his snooping. Belle is the only person who hasn’t cheerfully encouraged him to leave Storybrooke. He has to feel a little protective of someone who is both his only ally and also another potential victim of the psychos who are everywhere in town.

True, it would be sweet if he’s taken it upon himself to look out for Belle for a bit. I think that eventually, he’s gonna be a major character, so they don’t want to exclude him from the current eps. They’re giving us a little breadcrumb about him in each ep, and eventually they’re gonna lead to some major action he’ll take which will end up being a major plot point.

I’m losing my mind right now that one of my fave crackpot theories might actually turn out to be true. God help them if they’re misleading us! Ever since the moment Bae went through the beanhole, I thought he’d gone to Neverland. If this actually happens, I’ll be beside myself. 😆

Phee!!! Can we start the Happy Neverland Bean Dance yet? 😆 😆

😆 Part of me is trying to stay calm and say, “don’t count your beans before they sprout”. 😛 But a land a boy went to that allows him to still be alive 100s of years later and said boy knows Captain Hook…I just can’t think of anything else it could possibly be referring to other than Neverland. I mean, I know that Hook recently said that his boat has seen “many glittering shores”, but how many other lands prevent aging the way Neverland does? So it’s gotta be! 😀

I’m calling Lost Boy merely because the writers said no Peter Pan this season

I think they just meant that we won’t actually see Peter Pan this season. That means no Neverland flashbacks, but it doesn’t necessarily mean we don’t see the adult version of him. K&H interview answers are like a Seer’s prophecy, the words can seemingly mean one thing, but actually allude to another. 😉

This story doesn’t rely on faith alone. It is relying on mythology based on the idea of fate and destiny. I think Emma wearing a red scarf was to denote this idea that there is a red thread of destiny/fate.

She was the end of the curse. She was the savior to break the curse and free Storybrooke. Bae on the other hand is the beginning of the curse. He was the motivation in having the curse cast. So in terms of storytelling, that is actually a great plot and really does emphasize that FTL characters are connected to each other with these intricate red threads of fate/destiny.

Emma had to meet Bae. He was the one that could help progress her destiny. By their being together Henry was born. August then had Henry arranged to be adopted by Regina. That eventually led to the curse being broken.

The whole show runs on some faith but more in the belief that as much as one can see into the future, the red thread of fate/destiny will have people land where they need to. All of these characters are much more closely related like a grand puzzle each has their own piece that fits into the bigger picture–perhaps the magic within calls to each other unknowingly, or their roles help create that destiny (an example is the story between Grumpy and Nova–had he not been born a dwarf set to mine the mines, he would have never come across the fairy dust that would lead him to Nova).

If the forum had a LIKE button, I’d have clicked on it for this post. Well said! 🙂

Since seeing Hook mention the Lost Boys in Tallahassee with a sort of fond nostalgia, I’ve wondered if he and Milah’s son had been on good terms in Neverland, not the bitter rivals that Hook and Pan are usually thought of. Maybe they had a frienemy thing going on.

That’s true, at this point so much is possible, when Bae mentions Hook in the other promo it seems like they may have clashed before. Two weeks from tonight?! Curse you Oscars! I wonder if Bae is Peter Pan how well does he do in a sword fight? 😀

Are the Oscars really THAT important? I mean, really, they can’t push ’em back an hour and show Once as a lead in? 😛 There are those pics of Nealfire with a sword in SB, in ep…16, I think?

Great promo. Loved how they were telegraphing this in Manhattan tonight. Neal telling Rumple how every night for longer than Rumple could imagine the last thing he’d seen before falling asleep was Rumple abandoning him. Hundreds of years in Neverland fits the bill for the amount of time he was talking about.

YES, that’s the line I was trying to remember before when I was posting in the other promo thread. Knew there was something in Manhattan that suggested he’d been around for a very long time.
