Wonderful, insightful post, myril. Lots of excellent points. 😀

As I see it Regina was never just reacting to Snow’s childish betrayal, that was the start, the trigger, but Regina also then has been jealous of Snow’s happiness and what you can call her inner beauty. Things seem to come easy to Snow (they didn’t, but that is how I think Regina perceives her). Yes, she lost her mother, but her father did everything for Snow, remarrying not for his own sake but her sake. The huntsman Regina sent to kill Snow fell for her innocence and fairness and let her escape. Snow found good friends while on the run, she stumbled upon her true love. People love Snow because they perceive her as friendly, generous, considerate, just, open minded, and never anyone seems to question it, or only a few. Every day with Snow alive was a reminder for Regina, that she lost the beauty of true love, while Snow had it (her father) and later found it again (Charming, as well as Red, Granny and the dwarfs as her loyal friends). At first Regina wanted to get rid off Snow, but her vengeance turned more and more into a quest to punish Snow by destroying her happiness, and not just because Regina failed first to kill her. Regina was too proud to let go and jealous that Snow got, what Regina felt Snow didn’t deserve but she, Regina, should have.

Yes, if you look at the whole scope of the situation and how it evolved and how Regina’s resentment snowballed out of control, it makes much more sense. When they first showed us the reason it all started, I thought Regina was overreacting in a major way. But looking at the entire situation, it’s really much more complex than simply misplaced revenge for Daniel’s death. It involves many different emotions and themes, including those from the original story.

Hmmm, so it was Charming that Regina and Cora attacked. I wonder why Charming was at Gold’s shop? And why were Cora and Regina so hostile towards him?

If Neal is Bae, then Rumple would be known as family to the Charmings by this point in time. So if Regina and Cora are going after Rumple, the Charmings would probably try to get in their way. Not saying they’d instantly be BFFs with him, but if there’s that familial connection, and he’s now recognised as being Henry’s grandfather, it’s unlikely that they’d stand by and let him be killed.

This Rumpel costuming looks younger then we’ve seen so far in my opinion…and a prisoner of war: are we going to see Rumpel fighting/fleeing the ogre wars? This is exciting!

Since it’s probably going to be a heavy Baelfire episode: maybe she’ll have a prophecy about Bae (who Milha was probably pregnant with during ogre wars..)

If so, that would explain why Dylan isn’t in the list of guest stars but the actress who plays Milah is. I’d love it if the prophecy is something to do with Bae! Wonder if maybe the Seer tells him that Milah is pregnant, and that’s why he runs away from the war?

    – She also ‘traveled through many worlds’ while he seemed to be using the Mad Hatter all the time. During her travels she surely encountered many things and tricks she learned.

Where on the timeline do we think Cora’s world travels occurred? Obviously she didn’t have the ability to do it when she met Jefferson, and imprisoned him to force him into making a hat. Is there any way he could have made a working hat, which she then used? I’m guessing no, because he didn’t possess that sort of magic. Maybe that’s why she needed the White Rabbit instead? But did the Rabbit come before or after Jefferson? If before, then Cora had lost his services somehow, and needed to replace him. I’d guess after though. Cora was frustrated with Jefferson’s non-results with the hat making, and then she found the White Rabbit, who could take her to other worlds, so she employed him, set Jefferson free, and he skipped off to set up his crackpot tea party, (I do hope we get to see that tea party some day, and if it does happen in the Onceiverse, it has to have happened after the events we’ve seen where Cora locked him up and he lost his mind).

    – The shear fact that Rumple is convinced that he is more powerful than Cora gives her a great advantage – people tend to underestimate the enemies they consider weaker.

That scene in the shop in In The Name Of The Brother is what proves to me that she’s more powerful than him, because what she said made him think he was still her superior. “I only know what you taught me…Master.” Pfffft, pull the other one, love. 😛 And the fact that she went there at all, to arrange a truce, implying that she’s no match for him, so wants his mercy. Puh-lease. And then she threw in the smooch for good measure, implying that she still has a crush on him, so he still has an emotional hold over her. What-eveeeerrrr. 🙄 If Rumple was on his game, he wouldn’t fall for it, but he’s lost, desperate and pre-occupied right now, so it was the perfect time for her to go to him with that little act.

Yes, “ruthless” is the perfect word to describe her!

Yep, it’s the bar where everyone was hanging out on Valentines Day. Think that’s the only time we’ve really seen it before now though. I remember seeing the sign in set pics from The Doctor but don’t recall if it actually made an appearance in the ep.

Thought it very fitting that that’s the spot where Regina and the QoH pulled over for a chat. Regina just got sucked down into that hole. 😕

Perhaps Cora tells Regina that if they have the dagger, they can control Rumple, which in turn means the three of them have a combined power that the Charmings can’t stand against, which means they’ll have to give Regina what she wants and hand Henry over.

But Cora’s actual plan is to get the dagger so she can take Rumple down, kill him, and steal his powers for herself.

Also, I’m still entertaining the idea that Regina is onto her, at least so far as knowing that she’s not genuinely helping her get Henry back, so she’s playing along to lull Cora into a false sense of security, until the moment when she can take her out once and for all. I’d have a whole new respect for Regina if she pulled a stunt like that.

So, I decided to believe that there is some sort of mental connection between the worlds in which some of the thoughts of people in Frankenstein’s world, Pinoccio’s world, or any of the others wind up bleeding over into the subconscious of authors like Mary Shelly and Carlo Collodi, who gave us Frankenstein and The Adventures of Pinocchio. This idea is not original – I stole it from Neal Stephenson’s novel Anathem, but I like it and I’ll stick with it unless K&H give us an alternative explanation.

I believe that too. The stories had to make their way over to our world somehow. Maybe the Sandman made it happen. Maybe he was able to travel between all the different magical worlds, witnessing things, and then he was able to tell the stories to writers in our world through their dreams. But as with any recounting of a dream, the details are never completely clear. So the author would write down everything they could remember, and fill in the blanks themselves, so it wasn’t 100% factual. And then over the years, certain stories were retold numerous times, and each time it got a bit further away from the truth. But now we’re getting the stories lifted from actual historical documentation from another world, so we’re finally getting the true facts, without misinterpretation or embellishment that happened when they originally made it over to our world, many years ago.

I think that’s probably how Henry explained it to himself, and they needed an explanation of some sort right from the getgo, before they’d shown us what the story of this town was really all about. But I suspect he could always come and go, because he was never affected by the curse to begin with. If Emma and August could come and go at will, it stands to reason that Henry could too.

I agree that any magical reaction that was taking place was created in and seeped out of SB. Certainly don’t think there was any magical force in our world reaching out to connect in the other direction. And if we never get an official explanation about it, I’ll be satisfied with assuming there was some part in the curse that provided for these things. There’s no way Rumple could have written all this type of stuff specifically into the curse, because he didn’t know the technicalities of the world they were going to. So an all purpose, “make sure the fact that we’re displaced beings from a magical realm remains undetectable to the rest of the world we’re in” clause would suffice.

But there’ll still always be questions like how supplies were delivered to town if no strangers ever come in and no one can leave. They can’t be completely isolated from and also integrated into the world at the same time, there’s gotta be a middle ground of some description.
