If he saw magic but wasn’t expecting to then he would have been more “Did I actually see what I thought I saw?”. From living in a world without magic, his mind would’ve been conditioned to believe there is no such thing as magic and would’ve tried to find the most logical solution to what occured. He also would have probably kept it to himself for fear that he had gone insane or that others would deem him mentally unfit. He seemed like he was excited because he had found evidence to prove him right.
Exactly. His demeanour during that phonecall sounded much more like someone who had found what they were looking for, as opposed to someone who’d stumbled on something unbelievable completely unexpectedly, IMO.
Also regarding that phonecall, I think the persistent calls from Her had been because the last time they’d spoken, (and we know they’d had a few calls back and forth, assuming hers is the repeated number in the call list in his phone), he’d told her he thought he’d found the place he was looking for, and was heading in. So when she didn’t hear from him again, she began to worry. Which would be perfectly understandable, if he was heading into a place where he believed magic and living storybook characters to be. I’d have been wanting scheduled updates if I was Her, and if he was suddenly MIA, I’d be trying to call every 5 minutes.

That’s not necessarily true because there are people of today, now, here, in our world, that believe in magic. Or believe in the possibility of it. Just because he didn’t instantly be skeptical about it doesn’t mean he’s not an actual outsider.
Even if he proves to actually be just a real world person, I think he has to be one of those people who believes, and he had to be seeking this place out as a result of that belief. I don’t think he was just some random, regular guy who stumbled on SB purely by chance.

Magic worked outside of Storybrooke, too. Don’t forget that August felt his body changing when he was in Phuket, some force brought Emma and Neal together, and somehow Gold, without his memories, obtained Henry for Regina. There is some kind of magical force outside of Storybrooke that is affecting everyone associated with the curse.
True! People associated with the curse certainly couldn’t escape its affects, no matter where in our world they were. I think that’s slightly different to how SB became magically integrated into our world, though. Once you’ve got Henry using MM’s credit card online, to pay for a service on a website that originates from outside SB, that means that real world, non-curse affected people/things are being affected by the curse, as opposed to having curse related affects contained to FTL folks. Same thing goes for any non-SB businesses that supplied anything to SB.
If they delve further into the Peter Pan mythos, then there is also proof magic has been used our world when Peter visited Wendy and the Darlings. He was able to jump between worlds. Alice is another example. Falling down the rabbit hole would be a portal into another world.
This might be “A Land Without Magic” but that doesn’t mean that magic has never come visiting before.
Indeed. The very fact that the SBers ended up in our world is proof that it’s never been completely closed off from magic, otherwise they wouldn’t have been able to access it at all. This is why I can let the technicalities slide, but like jessista said, if K&H do have their own specific reasoning behind it, it’d be great to learn about it.

ParticipantI’m hoping for that too! Surely they didn’t give Hook, a man of the sea, a mundane name like Jones without there being a reason for it, right? And now if this is PapaHook who’s mourning the loss of his love, that totally ties in with the Davy from the Pirates movies.
Was just reading this on wikipedia…
In J. M. Barrie’s 1904 play and 1911 novel Peter and Wendy, Captain Hook sings a song:
Yo ho, yo ho, the pirate life,
The flag o’ skull and bones,
A merry hour, a hempen rope,
And hey for Davy Jones.
—J. M. Barrie…so there’s already a tiny little connection there. Wouldn’t be surprised if K&H took that and ran with it.

ParticipantMy money’s on Joseph for David’s real name.

ParticipantI’ve been thinking about this since the ep aired, and wondering really, how much could he have seen?
Rumple’s back was to him. Yeah, he had a fireball in it, but he didn’t throw it, he put his hand down when he heard the car. If Greg had seen a light in Rumple’s hand, why would he assume it was a magical fireball, as opposed to someone just holding a torch of some description?
He’d have seen Hook more clearly, but would it have been clear enough, in the dark, when he’s in a speeding car, to instantly recognise, “That’s a pirate with a hook for a hand!” Or would he just think, “That guy’s dressed weird, and why is he holding a big hook?”
I believe Greg was seeking them out. Don’t think some random passer by would have connected it all up to add to an excited, “You won’t believe what I saw!” Unless he’s talking about how he saw a gun fight in a deserted street in the middle of the woods, complete with a creepy dude with a hook, and he thought that was kinda cool. But the way they set it up, they’re leading us to believe that he saw something magical, and like I said, I dunno how an average, ordinary, real world person would have seen a few seconds of blurred figures in a dark road before he passed out, and would have jumped to the conclusion that he’s stumbled on magic. But if he was looking for it, seeking out a place he suspected existed, where storybook characters lived, he wouldn’t have been thinking, “creepy dude dressed funny, holding a hook,” he’d have thought, “ZOMGCAPTAINHOOK,” which would warrant the excitement in his phone call.
So whoever he ends up being, and wherever he ends up being from, I’m sure he had prior knowledge of SB and its residents.

ParticipantBut they’ve made a point of saying that our world did NOT have magic, but anything associated with the creation of SB WAS magic, so how did the magic of their sudden credit cards and whatnot end up being recognised in the systems of our non-magical world?
It’s a plot hole I’m happy to gloss over and just accept that it works because it works, but I do think it’s sort of a plot hole.

for a moment I thought when I saw the title of this thread, it was either a) going to be a question of who has a sexier Irish accent or b) who’s sexier in general. 😆 😆
Same here. I was gonna reply that I’ll take one on each side and happily be the meat in the sandwich, thank you very much. 😉 😆

ParticipantI’m not familiar with him, but based on the pic in that article, I could see him as Hook’s father. The scruff is genetic. 😉
