Both of your posts are really interesting. If only Rumple and Frankenstein could sit down an have a rational debate on the topic, I’ll bet they’d have a grand old time. πŸ˜‰

This is a tweet of Adam’s I saw just before:

our world = no magic til now. Victors world = magic whether he knew it or not

The posts in this thread have got me thinking about how Victor perceived his world. Seems like he’s one of those pioneers who first started investigating magic in a new way, creating the principles of science in the process.

I admit, when it first seemed that they were gonna introduce science fiction to the show through Frankenstein, I thought it seemed out of place. But now that I’m thinking about it, it’s actually kind of brilliant that they’ve introduced this new element to further the definition of magic and how it’s perceived by and used by different people.

Here’s the tweet where Jane mentioned Dracula, she was responding to a fan who was saying that Frankenstein was based on a real person, making him real himself:

Also, Dracula based on real person. Hook certainly drew from legends of real pirates. Alice in wonderland was Alice Lydell

Basically, she’s saying that many a ficticious character has their origin in a real person, but that doesn’t make them any less ficticious. I could see them having Dracula ruling that land, without having to specifically reference Vlad. Frankenstein could have even been inspired by him, this man whose body is technically dead, but he still lives by sustaining himself with blood transfusions. Would they go so far to say that Frankenstein created Dracula? As in, the prince who ruled their land died, (or at least came very close to death), and Dr Frankenstein, being a loyal subject, revived him with blood transfusions, and in doing so, created the vampire?

If they do intend to introduce Dracula, (assuming Jane’s tweet was a hint), I can’t imagine that they could create yet another world where he’d be a better fit, coz Frankenstein’s world looked like the perfect place for Dracula to live. If he’s gonna be anywhere, I’d expect him to be there, whether he’s the one who rules the land or not.

Last night I had a very elaborate dream where this whole theory (and then some) played out. Unfortunately the details started slipping away quickly as soon as I woke up, (hate when that happens), but one thing I CAN tell you is that it was a MOST entertaining story.

‘Tis not the first time I’ve had to agree to disagree with someone and it won’t be the last. πŸ˜‰ Like I’ve said, I’m satisfied with how they wrote it and don’t think the plot points needed any further clarification. But everyone expects different things from any show they watch and the writers can’t please every viewer 100% of the time.

I really really wish that his views on magic and science hadn’t changed at the end of this episode, as I feel it would have been far more interesting to let him battle with it throughout the season/series.

Well, we don’t know for sure yet that he’s completely signed himself over to believing magic is better than science. Modern medicine, (and Victor’s brand of medicine) can do great things, but if I had the choice of a major surgery and painful recovery, which might eventually see me able to use my arm again…or go see Rumple and be good as new in 5 seconds, the latter is the sensible choice. Victor couldn’t be at the top of his game, trying to find a way back to his land and his brother, if he was shut up in hospital. Also, assuming he can get back to his land, I’m also assuming he’s expecting to do more surgery on his brother, which he’ll need both arms for. So given the situation, he compromised his principles and went to see Rumple. I don’t see that as him giving up on his own beliefs completely though.

I don’t see why they had to resolve the daniel/monster problem in this episode, or whales arm? they could have let both play out a little longer (tortured regina a little longer? ).

I think fixing Whale’s arm was a deliberate contrast to last week’s episode. Gold healed Whale almost for free. Is he feeling remorse for what he did to Hook?

Wow, that’s a very interesting observation. It would be lovely if Mr. Gold was trying to become less ruthless with his deals in effort to change for Belle.

That would indeed be lovely, and I do hope that he continues to try to be a better man. But I think in this case, it was just that what he got from it wasn’t something that came with a physical price. Despite that, he still got something valuable…Victor had to swallow his pride, and tell Rumple he was right. Both of them have big egos, and Victor having to submit, that was a huge kick in the guts for him, and Rumple knew it, which made him happy. Rumple doesn’t like having his power challenged, and he won that round, even if he’d had to wait a long time to hear Victor say those words.

Or maybe Cora and Hook are just good actors. πŸ˜‰ I’m not definitely on either side of this theory, but I believe there are definite signs that make the impostor theory believable. So I’m remaining cynical, to prevent being pissed if it turns out they are in fact impostors and not the real deal.

It still seems kinda odd to me that Mulan and Aurora, and even Lancelot and Phillip, are nowhere to be seen in that scene. I’m guessing the other characters that are there will be right there when they come through the portal, (maybe they thought they were helping Snow and Emma, but it wasn’t really them, or maybe Cora and Hook find the portal too and slip through first), and then this scene of them all walking down the street is immediately after that, before everyone else in town has seen them yet, otherwise the whole freaking town would be at the street party. If so, why would they just leave Mulan, Aurora and also potentially Lancelot and Phillip by the portal and walk away? Not very welcoming on behalf of the SBers and I can’t imagine Snow and Emma would just walk away from them after what they’ve been through together.

Also, Snow will obviously be happy to see Charming again, but if she knows that Cora and Hook are hot on their tails, she’d also be serious business, so I can’t really see her being all relaxed and giggly as they stroll down the street. I’d imagine her to be all, “We need to make sure they can’t follow us, or ALL of us are in grave danger.”

Then again, maybe Snow and Emma find a way through and Cora and Hook aren’t around at the time, so they see no need to panic right after they arrive back in SB. (Edited to add that if this reunion scene is in ep 9, that’s the QoH ep, which we’re expecting to be about Cora, so safe to say she wouldn’t be lying dormant in FTL during that ep.)

Guess we’ve just gotta wait and see.

I miss August from the show – I admit I didn’t like him at first, but then they started developing his character and gave him a really compelling backstory. I hope he appears in a lot more episodes after the winter break.

I recently re-watched The Stranger for the first time in a while and that scene where he goes to Marco’s workshop still makes me weepy. πŸ˜₯ I neeeeeed to see their proper reunion STAT!

Still not sure if I’m sold on the idea that August knows Bae, but I do LOVE me some bromance, so if they hook those two up, I’m all for it.

Yes, I thought that was a little suspicious. Keeping my fingers crossed that the Baelfire episode is coming up after the break soon, or perhaps they just contacted him to let him know when to keep his schedule free because I imagine with recurring cast members, they might have to ask them months ahead of time if they would be available and if not when could they be available for shooting. (Of course, the poor boy spelled theories wrong, which made me cringe, but I saw that his mom corrected him. πŸ˜† )

Maybe he just got his next script sent to him and it reveals a bunch of stuff, so he got curious about what the fans are speculating. Must be fun for him to know the info and be keeping the big secrets everyone wants to know. πŸ˜‰

That crest is in the middle of the big table in the “war room” scene. Dunno off the top of my head if it’s the same crest that George used when he was in charge.

Edited to add that I just found a screencap from the beginning of “Heart of Darkness” and George’s soldiers appear to be wearing that same crest.
