ParticipantI’d love it if we got some more Wonderland characters on the show! And I’m a crazy cat lady, so would love to see their take on that character in particular.
PriceofMagic, I just commented on your Whale/Triton idea in another post, and just now it occurred to me that if he’s lost his arm, perhaps he had a mishap whilst wielding his trident using unpredictable SB magic.

One big question is who is this guy below? Colin OβDonoghue (Hook)? It doesn’t look like him. He’s not Prince Phillip or Noah Bean, as have been guessed. It could be a new character entirely, but he is dressed in FTL-like clothing. Also, as someone speculated, it’s a Halloween episode, so it could be he’s dressed in a costume for the holiday.
Hmmmm, think I’m gonna go with the “random dressed up for Halloween” idea. Just some guy who thought it’d be funny to dress like Hook who’s rumoured to be hanging around town. Unless he’s one of Hook’s crew? Though we don’t know if there’ll be anyone other than Hook and Smee in SB. He’s certainly dressed piratey.

Storybrooke names have some sort of link with their fairytale counterparts, Whale could either mean big or something to do with the sea. Merlin would make sense, what with Lancelot being introduced, but I’m not overly keen on that theory which means he probably will be Merlin. I’ve seen Gulliver suggested which would play into the name. King Triton could also be a possibility if they wanted to introduce Ariel.
Yeah, the name is the only thing I can’t figure into the Merlin theory. I’d originally had him pegged as being from The Little Mermaid in some way, coz of his marine name. I’d thought he’d be a Regina/Ursula minion though, which is why she still had him under her thumb in SB. But now I’ve flipped and think he’s a good guy, so I sorta gave up on him being from that story at all, but now you mention Triton, that could totally work. I think that if he was a good guy, he had to be someone very powerful. That would explain why Regina made sure she had control over him in SB, and why he now feels comfortable confronting her.

Looks so far like episode 5 might have more Dr. Whale (possible reveal of backstory?) And something’s happened to The Rabbit Hole. Connection to Dr. Whale’s identity?
I got done posting just before in another thread, pondering why the caution tape and if maybe something disappeared down that hole outside the Rabbit Hole, but how it didn’t look big enough for someone to fall into. Then I clicked the link in this post and when I read them asking about Dr Whale’s arm, I decided that that is what disappeared down the hole. It’s not completely crackpot, I mean, it’s not like you can see his arm in a sling under the jacket or anything, there’s just an empty sleeve dangling there.

Honestly, I’ve been hoping since the end of the last season for Baelfire to be Jack, took a bean to Boston (his giant’s castle) and Jorge Garcia to play his ‘giant’: be it a crime leader, a bad foster parent, or combine the characters of the giant and his wife into being a sympathetic character. I’m sooo excited to see Jorge Garcia join the cast, even if it’s only for a short time!
Yes, if we’re going to find out what happened to Bae this season, assuming the Blue Fairy wasn’t lying or wrong about him going to a place without magic, then his back story must take place in the real world. So I agree with your theory that I don’t think the Giant will be a real Giant, just look like one and/or have that nickname.
I just wanna third that theory. Though obviously Jorge is on the larger side, I really don’t imagine them CGI-ing him into being an actual giant. It’d be far more interesting if he’s the personification of a giant obstacle of some description for Jack.
PS. I hope you don’t leave the forum, Lil’Red. Always like reading you posts and your beantown theory is one of the cleverest ideas I’ve read, so much so that I’ll actually be bummed if Adam and Eddy don’t take advantage of that idea.
I like the idea of both Emma and Baelfire standing alone and being their OWN characters to some extent – but look at the cast we now have: out of the parts announced and the cast members – it really does look like we’ll have some possible characters overlapping again.
I like that idea too since for me Emma, Bae, and Henry would be the only wholly original characters. However, I think like the producers have talked about how Emma’s back story is like the “Ugly Duckling”, it can also work that Bae is also Jack if his back story takes place in the real world. He’s not really Fairy Tale Jack as everyone knows that particular story, but he would be Jack in the sense that he was a young, naive kid that got brought to a new world full of giant everything via magical bean. Plus, since Jack is such a common name and Baelfire isn’t, he may have been rechristened Jack when he came here either because Baelfire was thought too weird by the people that found him or most likely, he was too scared at the time to tell them his real name.
That’s an interesting idea, that maybe the Jack/Giant story we’ll get won’t necessarily be intended to be a re-telling of the Jack/Giant fairytale story we’re familiar with.
Even if not though, if he is intended to be Jack and the Beanstalk Jack, I don’t think it confuses matters if he’s also Bae, coz I don’t really see Emma and Bae as being the same category of character. It’s true that they’re both characters who were children and were created by the show, but for me that’s where the similarity ends. Emma was born moments before FTL ended, so logically, she couldn’t be a character in a fairytale we all know, because no more fairytales were created once FTL went *poof*.
Bae was born centuries ago though, so it’s entirely possible that he had adventures of his own that came to be re-told and became a story we all know. So we think we know Jack’s story, but really, we only know the half of it, coz we don’t know that he started out as the son of Rumplestiltskin. That’s what this show is all about, telling us how stuff really happened. It’s like an expose, all the secrets of FTL that they didn’t want us to know, but Adam and Eddy found the secret files and are opening our eyes to the truth. π

Charming punching Whale.
I’m thinking that Charming found out Dr. Whale had a one-night stand with Snow/Mary Margaret during the curse.
Sounds about right to me!

Hmmm, what’s with the CAUTION tape, I wonder? That’s out the front of the place called The Rabbit Hole, isn’t it? Think I remember seeing pics of that board out front the other day, along with pics of the Rabbit Hole sign. Maybe someone/thing fell down in there and disappeared, so they taped it off? Doesn’t look like big enough of a hole for a person to fall in though.

Yes, I think he’s angry. I guess there could be a reason why he’s the only one threatening Regina up close though other than his character status. Some people have theorized it’s because he’s evil and that he knew Regina well enough before to feel that he could threaten her like that. I feel he could still be good but perhaps just be incredibly brave but also foolish since Regina probably still doesn’t have many powers, yet, at this point. Or perhaps he had magical powers back in Fairy Tale Land too, and feels confident enough to threaten Regina like that.
My fave Dr Whale theory is that he’s Merlin. That character would have the status that he’d be able to go toe to toe with Regina. Not just anyone has the balls to get all up in her business and pin her to a wall like he’s doing in that pic.
Also, if this does end up being a Whale ep, (pretty, pretty please), and it’s also the Halloween ep, I’m liking that as a hint for the Merlin theory too. Witches and wizards and whatnot are associated with Halloween.

ParticipantHmmm, intriguing pic of Dr Whale and Regina. Can’t wait to hear that conversation. Neither of them look very happy.
PS. This pic…TOO CUTE! π

ParticipantWhen we’re next introduced to Bae, I hope he’s flawed. I hope he’s been through some trials since leaving FTL, and has had to resort to doing things he’s not necessarily proud of. Seeing him have to wrestle with his own demons as he comes to terms with his father’s would be far more interesting than just having him still be a good guy, still trying to talk his dad into doing the right thing. I wouldn’t find it believable that father and son could truly reconcile if their views are still polar opposites. Bae needs to have lived the dark side a bit, and Rumple needs to see the light a bit, (helped by Belle), so they can come to an understanding and reconciliation.

ParticipantI may have swooned a little bit when I saw that pic on Twitter. π

ParticipantMight be time to start stalking Jorge’s tweets too, to see when he’s off to Vancouver. π If they’ve already started ep 5, you’d think he’d be in town already if he’s in that ep. No hint of that yet, he just sent this 9 hours ago: “@AdamHorowitzLA Yay! At last we can (sorta) talk about it! Looking forward to this.” Though if MRJ is Jack(Bae?), the sneaky buggers might try to keep it under wraps if he and Jorge are both in town filming at the same time.
I’m starting to get fixated on the idea that Jack = Bae. If ep 4 is a Rumple ep, (I know we meet Hook in that ep, but given all the shots of Robert and Emilie, I think it’s safe to say it can be classified as Rumple centric as opposed to Hook centric), would they make ep 5 a Bae ep, which would likely focus on Rumple again too? In some ways I guess it’d make sense if they want to get that story rolling along in the first half of the season, but I think they’d spread it out a bit more than that and tell other people’s stories in between, so they can prolong that main thread of that ongoing Rumple/Bae storyline for much of the season.
Of course, Jack may not end up being Bae, in which case, that argument is irrelevant.
My ideas about MRJ being Peter Pan/Henry’s father involve that he’s originally introduced in the real world, somewhere outside SB, and then is drawn to the town, possibly by the presence of Hook. If MRJ hasn’t been around Vancouver since his original shooting stint a couple of eps ago, but is likely heading back for ep 5, that would fit in with what I’ve been theorising.

ParticipantGlad they ended up giving him a part on the show, even though he’s likely gonna end up dead if he’s the Giant from Jack and the Beanstalk and they end their version of the story in the same way. But if it is in fact a one shot role, I’d think it will still be a significant one, because I wouldn’t think they’d bring back one of their beloved former Losties just to play some character from a random story that won’t leave much of an impact on the overall scheme of things. So this makes me think even more that the Jack character will be Bae. His encounter with the Giant will significantly darken his character, so even if Jorge’s role is brief, it’d still be vitally important to the development of Bae, one of the central characters for the show.
BTW, even if Jack doesn’t end up being Bae, the Lost fan in me is getting a kick out of the fact that Hurley will be dealing with a Jack again. π
