HOROWITZ: I don’t know if Rumple is ever full evil. Full evil implies a loss of humanity, and I think that as dark as Rumple gets, there’s still humanity in him that is struggling with the evil. That’s something we’re going to explore.
KITSIS: Rumple likes to think that the ends justify the means. He’s willing to do things to get what he wants, but most people won’t. In his mind, that doesn’t make him evil. He’s not cruel. He doesn’t destroy people’s lives for no reason. It’s usually because they owe him.

Have they even been paying attention to their own show this season? *sigh*

That costume looks schizophrenic. Each separate element is fine, (though I’m not a fan of peplums as a general rule) but all mashed up together, it doesn’t really look right? Too bad they used up all the jellyfish tentacles on the Fairy dresses.

“The process isn’t about flipping through the Disney catalog”

*looks at picture of three new villains*

    Riiiiiiiiiiight.

It’s just coincidence that all three of them are famed Disney villains, and that two of them look exactly like their Disney counterparts, despite the fact one of them already had a totally awesome pre-existing costume. Pure coincidence, I say!!

    Or something. 😛

they didn’t mind shoehorning in Rapunzel as a one off, so who’s to say Tiana wouldn’t be?

I’d like to think that they wouldn’t shoehorn in another POC as a throw away one off character. They got flack for doing it last time, they’d be incredibly stupid to do it again.

The way they describe this character doesn’t make her sound like a goddess, (why would they even need a younger version of a goddess), but who knows how they’ll retcon Ursula’s story, so maybe they’ll make it that she used to be a regular old human princess back in the day and she got cursed into being a Siren or something.

Do A&E oversee every editing of each episode, or do they simply rely on an editing team who may not have seen every episode?

I think Adam answered that on Twitter recently? If memory serves, when they first started releasing deleted scenes, someone asked him who decides which scenes get cut and he answered that it was always him and Eddy?

Yeah I was really hoping we’d see how the spell effected Belle but it seems she slept right through it?

My headcanon is that Rumple slipped her something to knock her out because he didn’t want her having conscious negative thoughts about him while the curse was happening.

Why did they cut that scene? It answers so many questions

WORD. Big mistake cutting this one, which I guess is why they showed it now.

And, to the opposite of you, as someone who has also had extensive suicide and self harm problems, I DID find it triggering which was my whole point and why I wasn’t going harp on it (except to point out that I didn’t say what you thought): that some will see it one way and others will see it another. And that I get that it’s supposed to read as “sacrifice” but the dialogue of the scene and the action of what is happening is troubling.

When Rumple did basically the same thing, it was emotionally devastating…the message was “this is not a happy ending” and that his life was worth living, hence them trying to get him back. But Ingrid’s sacrifice is being upheld as something morally right and just and a good thing. I get that it’s hyper fantastical and again, that’s why I’m not going to dwell except to point out that it is a troubling image.

I have been lucky enough to have not experienced anything closely connected to this in my life. One of my fave actors from the 90s (Jonathan Brandis) took his own life in ’03. I didn’t know him, but given how much of his life had been documented in the teen mags back in the day, I felt like I “knew” him. His mum was often featured in those mags, so when he died I looked up the address to be able to send a condolence message that would get to his parents, (and they sent a thank you card to let people know they’d got their letters, which made it a more personal exchange, even if I was really a world removed). I have a friend on Twitter whose brother took his own life, and I’ve seen how that still affects her years later as she marks the date of his passing and celebrates the life of his daughter. So I can’t speak with first hand knowledge of what it’s like to be triggered by something like this, but it IS still in my mind to a certain extent.

I think there are a couple of major differences between what happened with Ingrid vs Rumple.

With Rumple we felt the weight of the action and the loss. We’d seen his LONG journey to that point, we knew that in giving his life it meant he wasn’t getting what he’d craved for centuries (a life with his son), so there was a sense of futility about it, and in the moments after we saw people truly effected by his death, we saw Belle actually crumble to the ground.

We didn’t get that with Ingrid. Elsa and Anna didn’t WANT her to die, but it didn’t seem like they’d be particularly affected by her death in a lasting, negative way. And she seemed almost elated to be giving up her life. There just wasn’t a whole lot of tragedy attached to it, in fact quite the opposite, and that’s where the potential problem lies, because a person giving up their life really isn’t a celebratory thing.

To be fair, being a Sea Witch is what Ursula is supposed to be traditionally. What I could see them doing is making it so people only thought she was a God due to her powers of the sea. After all, she was supposed to be a “myth”, and myths aren’t known to be 100% factual.

I get that she was typically a sea witch. But in the show, they went to the extent of having a kingdom making a golden statue to revere her because she was was a GODDESS. Even the Little freaking Mermaid thought Ursula was a GODDESS. So I won’t be cool with it if they downgrade her to “witch”.

Yup. I think S5 will be Aladdin

And despite the fact that it’ll be totally inspired by the Disney re-release and a cheap promo grab, I can’t help but be a little bit excited, because Aladdin was one of my fave movies, almost tied for first with The Little Mermaid.

Anyone else think that Cruella kidnapped Belle….?

Yup. (It might actually be fun to see Belle vs Cruella, considering Emilie is a hardcore animal lover so maybe that’s where they got the idea. But I’ve learned to not get my hopes up where Belle’s involvement is concerned, so I’m reserving judgement.)
