Either the writers are playing a long game and deliberately trying to make Rumple look unsympathetic to the audience so that when the big reveal comes along for why he’s doing what he is, the audience is knocked sideways by how emotional it is.

Or they need a long serving villain and since they’re trying to “redeem” Regina and Hook because of OQ and CS, then Rumple is the only one left who can be an antagonist without being defeated.

Rumple is one of my favourite characters on the show but it is frustrating because if you look back over the last 3 seasons, there is ample of motivation and reasons for why he is acting the way he is now, yet the writers are not actively stating as such. It is left up to each individual fan for why Rumple is doing what he is rather than the writers saying he is doing X because of Y.

I can give reasons for why Rumple wants to keep his powers whatever it takes, why he going to the lengths he is to separate himself from the dagger, why he is less considerate towards others outside of Belle and Neal, why Rumple is risking so much by lying to Belle, why his current plan isn’t quite as chess master like as his previous ones. However, because Rumple nor the writers are explaining Rumple’s motivations in-show, it appears Rumple is just doing what he does “For the Evulz!”

The whole “Rumple is a magic addict” angle could be so interesting if they actually take the time to show the human side of addiction. How does it affect Rumple and his relationships? How does it affect Belle? Why is Rumple so dependent on magic?

OUAT has potential to really hit those emotional moments. For example, last year, Rumple’s sacrifice packed such a punch we saw Belle literally crumple to the ground in grief. OUAT could’ve taken the opportunity to show Belle trying to cope with her loss? Did she become despondent? Lash out at others through grief? Wonder how she was going to cope without Rumple? Nope, she just bounced right back in the next episode. These big emotional moments are being skipped over in favour of action! Plot! New Villains who’ll be dead when their half of the season is up!

I think the whole 11 episode arcs has actually been detrimental to Once’s storytelling. Whilst it is nice that we get 11 whole episodes in a row, at the same time, they’re trying to fit a whole season’s worth of material in half a season and as a result: characters aren’t fleshed out, emotional connections aren’t made, plot devices are a quick win because the characters need to get from point A to Pont B in such a short amount of time, Belle and Henry don’t get the screen time because there is too much other plot going on, the supporting characters are now glorified extras. Storybrooke might as well just be made up of the CharmingMillsStiltskin clan since other characters don’t get a look in.

Well at least we now know what another dwarf did during the curse (though the last 10 years are a mystery unless Ingrid employed Dopey as staff).

Sneezy ran the Dark Star pharmacy/General store.
    Dopey sold ice cream.
    Grumpy was a hospital janitor.
Sleepy was a hospital security guard

What do you think Happy, Bashful and Doc did during the curse? Doc might have been a GP.

Just had a thought. The whole stars align thing is very similar to Disney’s Hercules where Hades had to wait for the stars to align so he could free the titans and make an attempt at taking over Mount Olympus.

I think Cruella is that puppy shown in the promo. She’s a shape shifter. That puppy does not look innocent. That puppy looks like it is plotting nefarious things.

I wonder if Maleficent is going to be used entirely for flashback hence why Cruella and Ursula are hanging around with Rumple. They need him to complete their trio.

Crack theory: Cruella is Snow’s aunt and Eva’s sister. She wears fur and Eva was from a “northern kingdom” where it is likely to be cold. She’s got dark hair (half at least) and pale skin like Snow. Eva had an attitude, Cruella’s likely to have one too.

Maybe Cruella is Snow’s half sister?

Psychic: How will you show gratitude?
    Ingrid: Thank You

    Loved Elizabeth Mitchell’s line delivery.

Crack theory: Cruella can shape-shift and is actually the dalmation seen in the promo.

(Ignore the writing on the image)

    LINK TO PICTURES

As weird as it sounds, that dalmation looks suspicious. It’s the eyes and the spots around the eyes. It looks like it’s up to something, that it’s plotting something nefarious. That is not the look of an innocent puppy.

Though I did wish for Henry to mention his father and how Hook can’t replace him

Hook kind of annoyed me by how he didn’t take on board AT ALL what Henry said. Yes Henry was under the shattered sight curse, but that only brings people’s darkest thoughts and doubts to the surface, something they wouldn’t express otherwise. With Hook not being affected by the shattered sight spell, you’d think Hook would at least try and reason with Henry, maybe find out exactly why Henry feels the way he does.

So when the kid, who not only lost his father (Neal) and a father figure (Walsh) within about a week of each other, says something like:

Does Hook try and reason with him? Show sympathy? Try and reassure the kid? Nope! Hook just goes:

Hook completely dismisses Henry’s feelings because Emma acknowledged that they were “together”. Hook doesn’t give a crap about Henry, Hook’s only interest is Emma. Henry is only important insofar that he’s a way to Emma’s heart. Will got it right when he called Hook out on “using the son to get to the mother”.

Pan actually wasn’t far off the mark when he offered Hook the deal to leave Neverland safely with Emma. Pan’s thinking was flawed only so far that because he’d abandoned a young Rumple so callously, he thought Emma’s bond with Henry could be so easily broken. Hook knew that Emma wouldn’t leave willingly without Henry therefore the deal was a no go because Emma would’ve hated for it and thus there would be no benefit in it for Hook. However, if it had just been a random kid that they were just trying to save (baring in mind the Nevengers probably would’ve never gone to Neverland and Pan’s plan would’ve succeeded without a hitch), I honestly think Hook might have taken Pan up on the deal.

I really wish we could get some flashbacks of Hook and Milah together because I’m wondering if Hook actually sees Emma as replacement Milah? Hook was on a revenge quest for centuries because of Milah, then suddenly one kiss with Emma and Milah’s history? Hook said him and Milah talked about coming back for Bae, who actually initiated that conversation? It must’ve been Milah since Bae would’ve been a nobody to Hook at that time. Why didn’t they go back for him? If they truly wanted Bae with them, then as pirates, surely they would’ve just gone back and taken him? What if Milah was the one who talked about having Bae with them and Hook was the one who always came up with an excuse for why it was a bad idea? Hook was only interested in Milah, not her son.

Just saw the episode and I enjoyed it though some minor issues.

    Favourite:

The opening scene with Ingrid and the fake psychic- “How will you express you gratitude?” “Thank you” Loved the line delivery from Elizabeth Mitchell.

Ingrid- I actually felt sorry for her this episode and didn’t want her to die though her death wasn’t unexpected since she was the half season villain and they’ve made a habit of killing off each half season’s villains. I do agree with RG that her death was a bit too much on the suicidal side of sacrifice. It’s a fine line to walk but preceding said death with “this is my happy ending” doesn’t help matters and the image of the happy 3 young sisters after said death kind of emphasised that it was a suicide and that now Ingrid was at peace. It was a powerful scene though.

The snark between Snow and Charming- I liked how they weren’t all lovey dovey and were actually having proper arguments like a normal couple. I also liked when Kristoff threw a wad of paper at Charming.

Regina, Snow and Charming laughing off the curse- It seems Regina has outgrown her evil Queen phase especially when she wasn’t happy with her outfit choice and actually changed it back to her Storybrooke clothes. It shows how much Regina has actually matured.

Henry telling Hook that he never liked him and he likes him even less now that Hook’s with Emma- It is such a natural reaction and I hope the writers explore that in 3B. Henry has just recently lost his father (Neal) and he just recently lost a guy who’d probably been the closest thing Henry had known to a father figure in his altered memory life (Walsh- even if he was secretly a flying monkey but Henry didn’t know that) and was close to actually being a part of Henry’s family. Of course Henry would feel a little resentful towards Hook if he thought he could suddenly jump in and fill Neal’s and Walsh’s shoes in Henry and Emma’s lives.

No Robin Hood and no Operation Mongoose plot- Regina can be such a great enjoyable character when she’s not being tied down by forced plots and constantly going “the book made me a villain” or fawning over Robin.

    Mixed:

Rumple wanting to take over the world- Since when did Rumple and Hook turn into Pinky and the Brain?

    Least favourite:

Not enough Belle or RumBelle- Considering we all know it’s going to go to hell for RumBelle in either the next episode or the next half of the season, they’ve not really had chance to spend much happy times together.

Rumple leaving Hook alone with a sleeping Belle and the heart bag- When Rumple left the shop at the end of the episode, he wasn’t carrying the heart bag and Belle was sleeping. Considering Hook has threatened Belle in the past and even as recently as this season, and has nothing to lose since Rumple told him he was going to kill him, it was a really dumb move for Rumple to leave him unattended like that.

Hook not taking on board what Henry was saying- Yes Henry was under the shattered sight curse whereas Hook wasn’t, but what Henry was saying was just his darkest thoughts and doubts brought to the surface. He still feels that way without the shattered sight curse even if he might not express those views. For Hook to focus on “Emma said we were together?” rather than Henry’s feelings was quite insensitive and dismissive of Hook. Not being under the curse, Hook had an opportunity to actually talk to Henry and try and bond with him. Hook wasted that opportunity because he was too preoccupied on Emma and how she said they were “together”.
