Ok I just have to throw this out there. But I’m starting by saying that I don’t actually believe this theory it just keeps pestering me despite that. Please shot it down. *hands out guns*
When David first woke up and had amnesia and Kathryn appeared and then we found out he had a twin–I really believed that twin was the one who married Kathryn and had that life with her in SB. And once again David was just having to take his brother’s place with Abby/Kat and not get to be with Snow. His brother died in FTL but so much of SB is faked… There are pictures of him and Kathryn together, right? But he never lived that life with her. He was always in that coma. So that could’ve been a picture of his brother. Or pictures the curse created. Is it possible for the curse to create a life for a character that died in FTL too? Maybe that happened. Or maybe the twin wasn’t involved in the SB backstory and all that was extra-made-up by the curse. (Everyone else’s backstory has pretty much actually been lived out in the time they’ve been there, right?)
Anyway, I had a new theory in this episode. Maybe David and his brother share the same body (or David and Prince Charming which is much more likely), like multiple personality disorder. So he really could be a different person when he ‘blacks out’. The reason I keep thinking it’s his twin is because I watch too much TV.

Dissociative identity disorder (DID, also known as multiple personality disorder–MPD) is a psychiatric diagnosis whose essential feature, “…is the presence of two or more distinct identities or personality states…that recurrently take control of behavior.” The diagnosis requires that at least two personalities (one may be the host) routinely take control of the individual’s behavior with an associated memory loss that goes beyond normal forgetfulness. Memory loss will occur in those with DID when an alternate part of the personality becomes dominant.
There are stories about people who suddenly disappear and it turns out they believe they’re an entirely different person and they live out that person’s life until they switch back over. And the other personality could even be the opposite gender. And sometimes they know about their other personality and sometimes they don’t. Jean Grey/Phoenix is kind of like this in X-Men (3?)… She has that other (TERRIFYING) personality that The Professor helps her to suppress. And uuuuugh I just drew a HUGE parallel between her and Ruby in this episode. First of all, the red. Second of all, she killed her husband–Cyclops–in that movie while her ‘alternate personality’ was in control, like the wolf was of Ruby. Ugh. I wish I hadn’t thought of that. Although really, Ruby’s was wayyyy worse. That foot! :gag:

riddleravenParticipantYeah, that’s one of my least favorite scenes as well. I prefer the book version and not because I read it first–I didn’t. I didn’t think that scene was well done and it is too long and I don’t like the song.
In the book, the Phantom arranged for her to go to go there. She still believed he was her father’s “Angel of Music” at the time and he promised to play (I think) “The Resurrection of Lazarus” for her on, supposedly, her dead father’s violin. It was supposed to be a treat and obviously was meant to manipulate her further into believing he was the angel. Raoul follows her there and looks for a realistic explanation for what’s happening. He decides a man could be hiding in a pile of bones and sees Eric with his ‘death’s head’ which I think was one of his masks but could’ve been his real face, I can’t remember. Anyway, I think the phantom knocks him out at that point. They find him the next morning in the graveyard frozen half to death!
I can see how ALW derived his version but I still prefer the book version. Of that scene, at least.

think the hearts the EQ extracted were the person’s soul. It took on the tangible qualities of a human heart in size and appearance, but it was really a metaphore for a human soul. When Emma was close to Graham she said something to the effect of “…there, I can hear your beating heart. It’s there, I can feel it” just before they kissed. It’s non-sensical to remove an actual beating heart and have the person still walking and talking.

I disagree that it is nonsensical to remove their heart and have them still walking around. It is magic. As long as they keep whatever they decide to do consistent then they can remove peoples hearts and have them still live all the want.
Right, @HJ. @Mal, Have you since Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest? Which is a Disney movie btw. Davy Jones cut out his literal heart and buried it in a chest so that he wouldn’t have to feel heartbreak. (It didn’t work though. He’s still tortured over his past with his lover) The pirates dig it up in that movie and use it to control him. And by the way, it continues to beat. (Isn’t that what we’ve seen them do in FTL too?) Anyway, I think it’s the same way in this show. I think the EQ literally takes out their hearts. And it’s because of magic that they can continue to live. To explain why Emma was able to say that in SB I believe what Graham’s excuse was–that his heartbeat was fake. The curse turned crickets into humans to make it more realistic, so it would’ve added a fake heart or at least the sound of one. I really like your theory though and honestly I believe there’s a mix. Because unlike with PotC: DMC cutting out their literal hearts ALSO cuts out their emotions.
Getting back to this episode:
I like how everyone is theorizing all kinds of things. And everyone wants Kathryn to still be alive, like Belle turned out to be. But this episode was dark. Peter wasn’t saved. I don’t think the writers saved Kat for us either.
Kathryn is MUCH more useful to Regina DEAD than she is missing or alive–so there’s no reason to fake her death. Why fabricate evidence if you don’t have to? Regina already fabricated some of it and the more she does that the more chance there is of it being discovered. She’s an old hand at this game so I don’t think she’d take any chances by faking a death on top of framing someone for it! It’s just too much. I think things do go a little deeper than face-value, that’s the way this show is. But honestly, you have to hold back sometimes. And in this case I think they did. I hope they did. I love crazy theories and plots but it gets so tiresome if it’s always always like that. You have to let us fall back on some reality or we can’t suspend our disbelief. The elaborate theories about the stranger are enough right now. We don’t need to be so elaborate with this too. It’s just… cleaner to do it straight!
RE: Emma:
I really hope that the cliffhanger for the end of the season is Emma faced with some kind of magic that she can’t explain. I want her on the verge of believing on the very last episode. Seems like the perfect time for that to happen. Her lack of belief is another thing that will get tiresome eventually.
riddleravenParticipantToo far. 🙁
riddleravenParticipantI like the movie too, Heather. Gerard Butler is soo yummy. I’ve also seen an old silent film of it that followed the book more closely.
Thanks MD! I’m glad you see it too. Unfortunately I don’t like Harry Potter so I don’t know about Snape. But Faust is on my to-read list!

Another thought is that Rumpel hates fairies, but he also has a thing against nuns in general. According to the Evil Queen, clerics tried to cleanse Belle’s soul and helped lead to her “suicide”. So maybe on top of his bitterness or competition with fairies he hates anything associated with the “death” of Belle. It may be just my shipper heart talking but I thought is was worth mentioning.
Ha! I like that!! That may be part of it!
riddleravenParticipantAh thanks! I didn’t know what he was saying. Could you link me to some of those videos?
And all hail mia for that paleyfest link!
riddleravenParticipantIt has to be after Rumple told her he loved his power more than her and forced her to leave. I think she was even wearing the blue dress she wore at his estate. And she obviously was upset–she’s been drinking and she seemed depressed. Don’t be mean to her. Rumple was extremely mean to her. He THOROUGHLY rejected her and it had to hurt so bad. I don’t think it would be right for her to act any differently. When a relationship IMPLODES like that you have to think “Okay, I was wrong, it wasn’t true love,” despite the kiss. I can’t explain why it seemed like she was talking about more than one guy (I think she DID say that!) but that might not be what she meant, even if she did say it. Rumple’s the one she’s heartbroken about now and he is the one she was talking about.
riddleravenParticipantWhen Rumple said “I hate nuns” and Leroy said “Who hates nuns?” HILARIOUS.
