As I’ve pointed out in another post ( https://oncepodcast.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=282 ), we don’t know yet whose heart is in the box. The most likely would be Kathryn, but the way David’s acting, it could be his also.
If it was Kathryn’s, we still don’t know if she’s dead or alive. The heart could be her “real” or her “magic” heart. By magic, I mean the ones Regina plucks out to control people. In David’s case it would obviously be the latter. Anyway, I don’t believe it would be Kathryn’s “real” heart, I mean, who would have done it? It says Regina all over, because of the heart, but we never saw Regina really cut out a heart. We see her grabing the “magic” heart out of the Huntsman, but never a “real” one.Well, I’m still sleepy, so excuse me if it still seems a bit holey. I’ll come back to it later, if I remember something else. ^^
[adrotate group="5"]I don’t think it can be anyone who is alive’s heart because when the queen pulled the huntsman’s heart from his chest and later when she went to her heart room to crush it, it was glowing and beating and i think Emma might notice that. I think that it means it has to be someone who is dead’s heart. I think the huntsman’s heart was crushed so i don’t think it can be his. And i think that Regina is trying to set up Mary.

I too think, that Regina’s trying to set up MM, but I also think the heart’s not Kathryn’s. Don’t know, it just seems too plausible, if you know what I mean. 😐 Maybe it’s Frederick’s and that’s why he has’t appeared again? 😉I think the heart is David’s because of how strange he was acting. But, because of how strange he was acting in the woods vs. how he was acting normally in SB, I think Regina removed his heart very VERY recently. As in, some point during this episode that we never saw. As far as MM’s fingerprints being on the box…is it possible that Regina has some sort of magical control over MM and got her to do the deed of ripping out David’s heart without her MM knowing/remembering? Thus, Regina could have MM take the fall for Katheryn’s disappearance AND have David under her control thus ensuring that their happily ever after really can’t come true. I’m sure there are a lot of holes in that theory but I think it’s gotta come down to Regina somehow.

We have only seen the hearts glow when EG/Regina is around. It’s possible that they only glow when she is near them because she is the one who controls them – they might just look like normal hearts when she is not around.
I don’t think Regina has the power to remove a heart in the real world. We saw that only in FTL, but we have only seen the huntsman so far. Who’s to say she doesn’t have PC’s heart or SW’s heart or whoever. We certainly have only seen a handful of her interactions. Although, I don’t know if you could feel true love without a heart. That will be a real twist if she has the power to remove hearts in SB. But so far, all I’ve seen in the “real” world is a lot of manipulation and whatever she brought with her from FTL, no supernatural powers for her or Rumpel so far. No moving plants, or poofing into smoke. The FT characters seem bound by the natural laws of our world so far — above ground.
Regina has, we can assume, quite a collection of hearts. Dead hearts. She was about to add the one the Huntsman brought her thinking he’d taken it from Snow non-magically after killing her. One from her collection is a small price to pay to frame MM (and she may get the heart back in the end anyway). Regina can conjure false phone records, so intercepting and altering lab test results shouldn’t be too difficult, “proving” that this heart belongs to Kathryn. I still think Kathryn is being held somewhere alive.
I think the heart is Katherine’s because there is no real indication that it is any one else’s. I also think it’s Katherine’s because of the parallels between Katherine and Gram. They were both Regina’s pets who decided to ignore her wishes and chose their own paths. Katherine’s purpose in Storybrook was to keep David away from Mary Margaret. Katherine is no longer standing between David and Mary Margaret, so Regina needs to get rid of her. So Regina kills her heart. What better use of the heart then than to frame someone for the gruesome murder?
The whole purpose of Storybrook is to ruin Snow’s happiness, so David and Mary Margaret have to be kept apart. David is already incriminated by being Katherine’s “husband” and by his wanderings in the woods, but why not add Mary Margaret’s fingerprints to the box for the heart and insure that the two will never be able to live happily together in Storybrook again?
If the heart is Katherine’s, which is is neck and neck in my mind with it being David’s heart, then how do we account for David’s strange behavior. We know that people without their hearts can still be walking around SB, Graham is an excellent example. However, David’s mood does fluctuate back to “normal” after the episode in the woods with MM. What happens when he goes into these coma like trances?? Is it possible that his mind reverts to be Charming/James? The question then is also how did MM’s fingerprints get on the box. Which is why I think Regina had to somehow magically manipulate MM in SB to holding the box, and probably burying it.
