I think he’s telling the truth in that he *thinks* he’s telling the truth. If his throne was usurped while he was still a young child, and someone spirited him away and kept him in ignorance his entire life: that’s a fairy tale story. The Lost Prince, that’s a common trope/motif.
So my headcanon goes like this:
–Baby Prince “Hook” (let’s call him Eric 😉 ) has a rival for the throne: his uncle, most likely.
–The uncle has planned to kill Eric.
–A kind woman, probably a servant of Eric’s mother who died in childbirth, spirits Eric away because the evil Uncle has killed the King and is now out to kill the Prince.
–The kind woman raises Eric, but she is in poor health and dies when he is still quite young. Eric (now going by the name Killian) is taken up by a man who is not an honest man and gives him the last name of Jones.
–Killian grows up believing he is Killian Jones, son of Davy.
–Insert the story Killian told to young Bae.Screams fairy tale. And it’s all in my head.

Yes the non appearance of Lanie in the season finale was slightly frustrating because I kept expecting her to show up and finally answer our question of “who will she play?”
We’ve had this conversation many times before, but I think she could go Ariel…or she could go Tinkerbell, because both mermaids and fairies were discussed in SSTR.Like I said, just toying with a lot of ideas because I think for them to give us Hook’s back story in a fleeting conversation in the season finale was odd. I didn’t expect that at all. I expect we’ll see it and that there may be more than even Hook knows.

Hmmmmm. I really don’t think Hook is secretly a prince. I think he’s the son of a runaway thief or perhaps even the pirate Davey Jones. Also, I don’t think Hook and Ariel were involved romantically. Hook’s true love was Milha, and I don’t think he ever got over this until maybe Emma. I doubt he had a relationship with a mermaid in NL, especially since Hook said the mermaids were cursed and said he hoped they take spare Bae’s soul. Not saying they had a relationship prior. Just that I’m toying with the idea of them having one in the future. And with how we’ve talking about mermaids in other places, we all seem willing to believe that Ariel will be different than the mermaids hinted at by Hook in ASOTM. Ariel could be a new development in NL that has only come on the scene in the years since Hook was in FTL.
I’m not saying in totally on board ship Hookriel, just that I think there has to be more to Hook’s back story than them just telling us in a 2 min conversation.

Hook said his father was a fugitive, so I highly doubt Killian Jones is a prince. Even if Hook’s mother was high-born, he still wouldn’t be considered noble because he likely would have been born illegitimately (i.e. a noblewoman wouldn’t marry a fugitive, even if she might sleep with one).
Unless of course that’s not his father….
Like I said, head canon. I don’t think Hook knows his true origin.

But Hook and Smee were both talking about Peter as if he was someone they only heard of; Hook would necessarily have to have a brain lobotomy to not be addressing Pan as being a younger version of him. Furthermore, Adam and Eddy already said there’s no time travel involved in OUAT. How can Hook as an adult and as a young boy coexist at the same time if time travel isn’t involved?
The better explanations are usually the simpler ones.
Yes, A and E have said there won’t be time travel and I think we need to remember that they need to keep it simple enough for the causal viewer to understand.

S2 may not have been as cohesive, but I think Phee makes an excellent point. We knew the trajectory of S1 from the start: get Emma to believe to break the Curse. We knew the season was headed in that direction from the first episode. S2 kept me guessing. I didn’t guess we were leaving SB until Paley when they announced the final titles.
I understand that they did change some stories in the process of writing, but all writing is rewriting. It’s a shame about Ruby, but Meghan is talented enough to get picked up right away, and we will see her every now and then. And I enjoyed the Cora arc, and even though I hate GOAT, I’m super intrigued by what they’re up to.
