Well, we still don’t know how Merlin appeared as a movie theater usher in our world back in the 1980s, when he was a tree

He told us it didn’t matter! So I’d say we’ll never know. *twitch*

The other option is Merlin could have had his Apprentice give PapaJones the ring. The Apprentice has been doing all of Merlin’s dirty work during tree time, after all.

    That sounds more likely.

Long ago, Papa Jones knew he was going to be in danger (going to war, threat on his life, something). He had also heard that there was a Wizard who grants … favors to those in need. (As Merlin seemed to be doing when he met Nimue.) And so Papa Jones, or possibly a loved one, journeyed to See the Wizard ? in to ask for a charm that would protect him. He must have been worthy, because Merlin crafted him this ring.

But Merlin was tree’d long before Hook (and his Papa) were alive?

Though, I do no put it past this show to have a tree craft a ring.

    OH GOD.

Merlin’s the GIVING TREE. He let PapaJones hack off a branch to make that ring!

Papa Jones may have then lived for several hundred years before his sons were born.

    Sure. Why not.

or the record, the current Blu-Ray/DVD sales aren’t spectacular, as someone who keeps track of that:

Ah, thanks. That’s nice to have. Yeah, those aren’t going to set the world ablaze, but it’s not surprising. Actually…how are TV-DVD sales  in general? With Netflix having (close to) effectively taken over the world, I’d imagine TV-DVD sales are down all over, except (maybe) for HBO shows and other cable shows that Netflix/Hulu don’t/can’t pick up: Game of Thrones for instance (but, lol, that is still the most pirated show out there so…who knows)

We all know how it ends: happily ever after. A and E aren’t going to break that particular mold. In fact, dollars to donuts, the series finale is titled “Happily Ever After” (to go along with WL’s finale of “And They Lived…”

I’m going to go out of limb and suggest that the ring previously belonged to Merlin. Don’t ask how that ring fell into Hook’s possession over the years, but I have a gut feeling due to Elliot Knight teasing that there’s an important connection between Merlin and Hook. Plus, we saw Merlin make a ring for Nimue in the same episode Hook’s ring was introduced.

    Quote

Yes, I forgot about Elliot Knight’s teasing. That’s probably it. If I had to make a wild stab in the dark, the ring changed hands a few times. For example: belonged to Merlin but somehow fell into PapaJones’s hand and PapaJones left it to Young!Killian (or Young!Liam and then Lieutenant!Killian took it off Liam’s body)

Don’t be surprised if we see our demo go down a little for tonight’s OUAT, since they’ll be factoring both 508 and 509 together as one rating. I’m predicting a 1.5, or a 1.4 at the very least.

    Same. Plus…TWD.

JUST wondering … do they consider DVD sales in the determination of keeping a show on lines… I am thinking all the ONCERS by the BLUE RAY & DVDs. Those that can not watch via streaming or on line probably add the dvds to their collection. . .

    Quote

It’s not a major factor, no. And not all Oncers buy the DVDs. I don’t, for example. The biggest factor is live viewers because that’s where the money is. DVD sales *help* but not all 5 million people are spending $40 to buy the DVDs and even then the ad buyers don’t care because their commercials aren’t shown on DVDs

    My (very confuzzled) review

So, I think I’ve decided that I didn’t enjoy this episode and that it’s going to stay my least favorite of the season. Any brilliance and high concept Mark Gatiss is playing with is, for me, overshadowed by the silliness and B-level style of the actual plot and what we were asked to watch for an hour. High art and high concept can be great, especially in an experiment type setting, but this episode became deadly dull and never made a lick of sense (something I think even the Doctor knows and acknowledges when he screams “none of this makes any sense.”)

    FAVORITES

–Not having any opening credits is a nice touch, reminding us that what we’re watching isn’t an episode of Doctor Who but supposed to be “found footage” of “real events” that “actually happened.” The credits at the beginning would take us out of that moment.

—–“What happened?” “From the beginning of time? That’s a very long story.”

–“Hold my hand.” “I’m fine.” “I’m not.” The fact that Clara will be gone soon made the Doctor wanting to hold her hand even more poignant.

—Clara never gets to name things. Only the Doctor gets to name new creatures the duo stumble upon.

–The guy who played Rasmussen was very good. Insane, but good.

    DISLIKED

–Too many random red-shirts! I didn’t know any of their names by the end and I didn’t care if any of them died.

–There are a lot of ideas embedded in the story that would be far more interesting than this actual episode: grunts, the Great Catastrophe, people living on Titan, a new labor force.

–So. Many. Dark. Hallways. I know it’s the aesthetic they needed in order to sell the “found footage” narrative but at the same time, I do actually need to be able to see what is going on.

–Those Sandmen costumes were straight out of the 1970s Classic Who Era (and honestly I’m not sure why I dislike that because yay Classic Who, except that they were so cheaply made as to be silly)

–I have Mr. Sandman stuck in my head. UGH.

We saw no flashbacks between Hook & Pan. Who’s to say that they weren’t friends once and that Pan gave it to him? Or perahaps Hook stole it?

305 was a flashback between Pan and Hook (and Liam and the magical waters of NVL). But since it’s not Papa or Mama Jones, then Pan is as good a guess as any.

If it’s Milah’s I’m going to burn things down.

Rumbelle: It seems like every time Rumple and Belle break through their latest relationship test, yet another hurdle is dropped into their path to happiness. As we saw in last week’s episode, Rumple is now officially considered a hero, but unfortunately, that doesn’t mean that he’s automatically going to get the girl.

“I think there is going to be a lot of Rumbelle drama ahead of us,” Kitsis warned. “We obviously know that Rumple is trying very hard to change his ways to win her back, and I guess we’re going to have to find out whether it’s too late.

*joy* (<—laced with so much sarcasm and bitterness that she can’t even)

We can’t tell you who that ring once belonged to, but we will say that we’ve met its previous owner before.

Oh. So not PapaJones? Or MamaJones (unless we’ve met MamaJones before and didn’t know she was MamaJones?)
