KeymasterOut of curiosity, do you guys think Merlin is dead in present-day Storybrooke? I really hope not…just because it seems odd to have a powerful Dark One roaming around and not have an opposite counter as well… And also weird to have imaginary-Nimue around without Merlin, especially after Merlin said he could see her along with Emma.
His name is absent from the sword in present day SB, so either he’s dead or Tree’d again. My money is on dead.

Keymasterhttp://tvbythenumbers.zap2it.com/2015/11/09/tv-ratings-sunday-nov-8-2015/ We remain steady at a 1.5 and 4.85 million total viewers.
Steady as she goes…I predict staying mostly steady for the rest of the arc. We might dip down to a 1.4 (MAAAAAYBE a 1.3) but mostly, this is where we are for the remainder of Camelot

KeymasterWait did I miss something. When Nimue drank from the grail…. Did she just become immortal? Or did she become a second sorcerer (sorceress?) because I recall Merlin said that killing Vortigun will “turn her magic dark” and at that point I don’t recall Nimue ever having used magic.
She used dark magic to rip out Vortigan’s heart and then crushed it.
How did she even know how to do that…?

KeymasterIn order to answer any of these questions we need to know if the sword works the same as the dagger–I’m going to say it does. Basically I think it will go a little something like this:
–Emma (with Zelena’s help?) untethers Merlin from the sword
–Emma (with Zelena’s help?) tethers someone Hook to the sword in a future episode. Clearly not already because as @Matt pointed out, the sword is totally nameless thus far in present day.
–The new name appears on the sword and that person Hook fights Hero! Rumple

KeymasterDid a wee bit of research and come up with a (possible) solution:
Ring of Dispel, a ring given to Sir Lancelot by the Lady of the Lake which could dispel any enchantment. In Le Chevalier de la Charrette it is given to him by a fairy instead. He used the ring to cross the Sword Bridge
The writers could easily change it so that Hook’s father got the ring and dispel any enchatment is really just “not die”

KeymasterOh gosh, the hat. Yes, we’ve never gotten a proper explanation for the hat/dagger connection.

KeymasterIt was all pretty expected, so Nimue being the first Dark One wasn’t shocking or anything. But I did like how they played with a very old trope, the “first woman” being the downfall of mankind (Eve, Pandora) and bringing darkness to the world, though a lot of this has a strong whiff of retcon because that’s not what we’ve been told in the past. So questions: what was the Darkness (that black goo we’ve seen many times) doing before Nimue became the DO? What was it doing? Where was it? Why didn’t we see it enter Nimue? Did it enter her? And what does the Vault have to do with anything? Was Darkness really not a thing (clearly not because Vortigan)?

KeymasterThere are things that would make interesting stories but that we’ll never know. For example
1) who was Merlin running from?
2) Where was he born? What was his early life like/his family like?
3) what did he do for those first 800 years?
4) Why did he chose that boy as an apprentice?
5) did he give the apprentice long life?
6) did he create any other realms?
7) did he really never give into the darkness?

KeymasterI’m going to go out on a limb and say it was a typo. I think it meant to say ‘500 years ago’, then Merlin’s ‘that was 500 years ago’ works as well. 2s and 5s are easy to mix up.
They are easy to mix up but for no one on the writing staff or editing room or the continuity experts to notice….? That’s Alex the magic gender swapped baby all over again

KeymasterI wonder if Zelena will give birth in this episode…? How long has she had that bun in the oven? She’s at least six weeks, of course but how long how has been since the little greenbean was conceived?
Zelena is, at most, 4-6 months, so I doubt it.
