KeymasterSo, either Hook kills Merlin with the sword (the name on the sword transfers to Hook) OR someone untethers it from Merlin and tethers it to Hook
Merlin’s name has been suspiciously absent from all the shots of Excalibur in present day Storybrooke. We’ve seen the sword clearly from both sides with no name attached, too. In particular, when Rumple drops it at the end of 506. So I think Merlin somehow got untethered from Excalibur before they all returned to Storybrooke.
Emma untethers Merlin in Camelot and tethers it to Hook in an upcoming episode and sends him to battle Hero!Rumple. Heroism wins but Hook dies (?) and goes to the Underworld. Emma’s DO curse is broken because Hook lost, and now she has to go to the Underworld to save him. Hence someone (Regina?) agreeing to “go get the pirate” in a 512 filming report. 511 ends with them opening a portal/vault/something to the Underworld.

KeymasterI’m also wondering if they’re going to claim that Milah gave it to him. I’m not sure what I’d think about that twist. Parts of it would be satisfying and parts kinda icky.
No ,I think it is more likely that he got the ring from dear old dad. There is an upcoming flashback with him and Hook, after all.
^ that.
with Greek mythology coming, I’m starting to wonder if Hook’s father took it off of a Greek deity of some sort of making it literally is imbued with immortality

KeymasterIt feels like the promo is almost all from “Birth”, with “The Bear King” episode not getting any focus.
I’m not surprised. The Bear King seems like a breather episode in between more “important” ones.

KeymasterOkay, so on the whole I actually liked this one more than I thought I would. At least compared to some other episodes. I like when the show explores its mythology and leaves its arc-of-the-season behind for awhile to explore some deep seeded questions.
LIKED
–Nimue the Dark One. Called it (a lot of us did)
–Merlin is still pretty great
–Prometheus’s fire. Mmmm. Greek mythology. My warm and happy place.
–Emma resisting the draw of power
–Zelena was hilarious (wut is this universe?)
–At least exploring the show’s history and answering questions. I don’t know how good those answers are yet, but at least we got them. But like a lot of past answers–Henry’s adoption, the Book, the Author–they feel born out of the season of the moment and not a long thought out plan.
–Snow’s Outfit
–The final scene with all the Dark ones. So creepy!
MIXED
–Snow, I know you’re trying to be helpful but could you be any more gullible??
–So was the DO created at the Vault or not?
–Vortigan = Random Bad Guy We Needed To Create To Drive Nimue To Do Things. (but nice mask)
–Zelena tethering the sword to Merlin. That was just straight out of left field. But I guess makes for an interesting set up later?
DISLIKED
–Jesus is a realm jumper. What? I know I’ve brought this up before but Christianity did not spring into existence from nothing. There is a VERY long history behind how it came to be and the EF hasn’t demonstrated that it had the history and conditions that our earth had for this specific religion to form! Therefore having Christian crosses and the Holy Grail (a Christian icon) are not possible unless you want to tell me that Jesus was a realm jumper with a spinny hat, in which case, I’ll set my M.A. ablaze.
–Hook’s silly ring on a chain. Great. More magical mcguffins.
–Since I’m looking for it now, more classism!
–The Merlin and Nimue love story was so fast. Does anyone else remember when romances on this show were built slowly and with purpose?
–Why did Nimue turn green so fast?

KeymasterSo…after some thought, I think I liked this episode a wee bit better than last weeks, though (extremely heavy handed) political Doctor Who still isn’t my favorite flavor of Doctor Who. But it was a good solid episode with a nice message (the only way to live in peace is to forgive) and some great performances.
LIKED
–Peter Capaldi and his impressive monologue. I always take notes while watching DW but this was one of those rare times where I stopped writing and just watched.
–Jenna Coleman as Evil! Clara (Bonnie). Really nice performance out of her this week.
–“I’m over 2000 years old! I’m old enough to be your Messiah.” Yeah, you stay self-aware Doctor Who
–Another hybrid creation with Bonnie-Osgood, yes? There is definitely an endgame here somewhere.
–Doctor Puntastic, first name Basil
–Totally and Radically Driving in Space
MIXED
–I’m not sure how I feel about the fact that this is the 15th time the Doctor, Kate, and Bonnie have done this to-push-or-not-to-push. I’m glad the Doctor let Bonnie keep her memories because it means there is little chance of another uprising on her watch, but why did he erase Kate’s? And the fact that they’ve done all this before suddenly made the moment much lighter than it was originally.
DISLIKED
–Someone please kill the Sonic Glasses
–It was almost a bit too Clara centric for my taste, but at least the Doctor was the one who really saved the day (though, again, I didn’t really care for “Clara Oswald got in my head” and that’s why the Doctor didn’t push the button—yes, it’s Clara. But it’s also every single companion the Doctor has had over 50+ years because they all affect him, not just this one Impossible Girl)

KeymasterPredictions for tonight, episode 507 “Nimue”?
I’d say we’ll see a slight uptick if anything, to a 1.6. But mostly steady at the 1.5

KeymasterI’ll more thoughts later, but without thinking about the episode itself, I can honestly say that was one of Peter Capaldi’s best performances to date. His long monologue to Bonnie and Kate was seriously powerful.
Here’s next week’s trailer

KeymasterFor what it’s worth even if both Ethan Embry and Sonequa Martin-Green were both available I doubt we’d see Greg and Tamara as A and E did everything in their narrative power to remove them from the story post haste once they realized that 99.5% of the audience really hated them and their story.
