KeymasterNot exactly. He used the key, which was specifically for resurrecting the Dark One. The rest of them never used the key at all. They instead touched three of the icons as some sort of combination
So a key instead of a key code. Well I feel all better now.
No, I get it. They are trying to say “totes different guys!” except it’s not. Not really. They don’t explain any of these differences. Why is the key used and not a key code? What is the key? what is the code? Why does X do A but Y can only do B? Because from a deconstructed, bare bones look they all opened the vault with some sort of key and there were only consequences for one party.
Yeah. I’m bitter. I know. But it’s also just bad storytelling.

KeymasterYour optimism keeps me going, honey.

KeymasterTo be slightly fair to the show, they weren’t using the vault to trade a life for a life. A life was specifically the price for resurrecting the Dark One, and that wasn’t their reason for visiting the vault.
Neal and everyone else in this episode did the same thing. Just opened the vault. That’s it. I’m just saying there are no set and logical rules in this show. Neal opened a vault and darkness came forth and he died. Everyone else opened a vault and darkness came forth (which HOW cause it was inside Rumple!!) and nothing happened.

KeymasterJust when I thought I was emotionally over this show! *Throws fish!*
Well.
But given that A and E have already said that the dreamcatcher in 505 has nothing do with Neal…don’t hold out hope for any sort of satisfying SF feels
Well, I would be upset, however there is a difference in what was happening….Neal was resurrecting his father which caused the Life for a Life price, everyone else was just opening up the Gate. The best comparison I have is actually there’s a difference between just opening the gates of Hell, and actually going to make a deal with the devil.
I already responded to you so not doing it again but nope.

Keymaster–Everyone opens the Dark One’s Vault and no one dies. EXCEPT NEAL. Yeah, no. This was bull. I don’t care..it was bull. What about the price of magic? What about messing with dark forces? Yeah, you keep telling me that Neal’s death was because he messed with forces he didn’t understand. Bull.
Well….they were just opening the Dark One Vault, Neal was actually resurrecting the Dark One which enforced the price “A life for life”.
And the darkness was still inside so really…kinda the same thing. It literally attacked Lancelot. The darkness is an entity that had agency in both situations. Still not seeing anyone pay with a life.

KeymasterRaise your hand if your seething over everyone and their brother going to the Vault of Eternal Goo, opening it, messing with dark forces, AND NOT HAVING TO PAY THE PRICE OF MAGIC WITH THEIR LIVES.
YEAH SURE. GO AHEAD. KEEP TELLING ME NEAL DIED FOR LOGICAL REASONS.

KeymasterArthur roofied Guinevere into loving him and staying with him.
The worst part? I’m not even surprised that the show went there. After Graham, Zelena/Robin, and some other instances that I won’t touch in order to save the fandom from fighting…of course they add ONE MORE instance of consent issues. It’s not funny. It’s not entertaining. And they need to stop.

KeymasterVery easy answer, IMO: they are flypapers for nightmares and Emma’s currently living in a waking nightmare. She’s holding on to something that’s always been a reminder of a better time, a time when she was happy and in love and free to be Emma Swan, unburdened by anything. They are her tether to reality.
And yeah. No matter how many times A and E might want to deny their connection to Neal, that’s not how symbology works. They set up the dreamcatcher as a very important narrative through point for SF and meaning of symbols don’t just get erased because the writers suddenly turn on a dime. You can add depth and meaning, but you don’t subtract.

KeymasterEmma’s crying over a dreamcatcher. But sure, go ahead and tell us that the dreamcatcher has nothing to do with Neal.
‘kay.

KeymasterNo.
Just…no.
I have so many issues and am so generally confused. This episode was a mess. Just an absolute mess.
LIKED
–Snowing tricking Arthur. I’m glad they had a plan all along; it’s nice seeing them work together.
–The pony is smarter than the pirate.
–Bobby was really good this episode
–Dreamcatchers. Always going to be linked to SF. Sorry, A and E but you don’t get to dissociate that.
MIXED
–Merida’s back. And in jail? She seems so superfluous to this story. Really—she’s going to make someone brave??
DISLIKED
–Bad child actors trying to do forced accents. Though, granted, they had terrible lines to work with.
–Clunky dialogue like Little! Guinevere telling Arthur to follow his heart. Yeah, find me an eight year old who speaks like that and has a concept of what fate and destiny are.
–Everyone opens the Dark One’s Vault and no one dies. EXCEPT NEAL. Yeah, no. This was bull. I don’t care..it was bull. What about the price of magic? What about messing with dark forces? Yeah, you keep telling me that Neal’s death was because he messed with forces he didn’t understand. Bull. Guinevere, Arthur, Lance, Snow and Charming all went into that vault, opened it and everything and *nothing* happened.
–WHAT IS THIS TIMELINE. Omg…five years ago…what?
–Arthur roofied Guinevere into loving him I will bet you dollars to donuts that it’s never going to come up again. Seriously. This show has such a CONSENT problem. It’s makes me livid that the writers don’t realize how they’ve cast some of their characters and their actions with all the lack of consent and rape over tones.
–Emma’s entire storyline now is about kissing Hook. Remember when she used to talk to Mary Margaret and Henry? Remember that? Good times.
–Why is Emma still wearing that white gown?
–Why is Hook in a pirate’s outfit all the time!!! Everyone else got Camelot clothing. Oh, right. ABC mandated that Colin has to be dressed as a pirate.
–Rumple can create portals now!!! Guys. WHAT WAS SEASON ONE ABOUT BECAUSE I HAVE AMENESIA
–Rumple keeps his danger in a jungle?! How? Why? What?
–The gauntlet was supposed to come from Rumple’s trip to Camelot. So again..what??
