He’s back to being dressed as Mr. Gold…I don’t understand. I thought Tabula Rasa Rumple was the “hero” Emma needed?

That and the sacrificed everything that happened three seasons ago when it was established that Neal’s shawl was Rumple’s talisman and poetic protection.
Anyway, scowling Emma looming over comatose Rumpel with the sword made for a more menacing bit of misdirection than the shawl would have.
Menacing sure, but think how bittersweet and kinda lovely it would be if it was Neal’s shawl that woke his papa up from a coma after losing the dark one’s curse. It’s circular, after a fashion, going all the way back to S1 and Bae wanting his father to no longer be the Dark One.
It’s….(inconsistent) drama over character and heart.

I do think at this point, unless something drastic happens (ie: really sharp fall), that we’re getting a season six (and probably a full order at that). ABC isn’t going to want to lose 4 dramas in one year (and maybe/probably two comedies).
