Those are good parallels, WR! Maybe I should’ve put Regina higher up on my list.

1. Henry – family (sigh)
2. Rumple – foe (after all, she’s locked up in his vault, maybe he exploited her unpredictable magic a bit for the sake of creating The Curse? Like, say, the part where it freezes time for 28yrs?)
3. Cora – friend/foe/family (she has a heavy influence in “misunderstood” characters on this show, particularly sorceresses and queens.)
4. Will – friend/family/foe (both are new to Season 4)
5. Glinda/Council of Witches – friend/family (Otherwise, why have her banished to a snow globe? It was a green(magenta?)-screen set so, the snow was a deliberate choice!)
6. Ashley/Anastasia – family (they’re making a live-action Cinderella so, I would be surprised to not see a little bit more of that character on ONCE in Season 4. Maybe the urn actually came from the future like Hook/Emma and it’s Ella’s daughter Alexandra all grown up?)
7. Maleficent – Not too certain on this, just hoping that with the film coming out we’ll finally get a bit more on this character as well.
8. Marian/Robin/Regina – family? (they’ve no connection other than being in the finale so, I can’t speculate. Robin is blonde? Again, the grown-up child from the future theory?)
9. Emma – friend. They’re already kindred spirits, when it comes to shutting people out. No idea how that would work out in writing but, this could also apply to Regina, as both are so “misunderstood”. Bring on the FrozenSwanQueen triangle?
10. Rapunzel – no relation, other than that Elsa is someone’s fear personified.

SaraTheHLessParticipantAnd Knave was one of my favorites on WL, so it’d be cool for him to come over. And for Ana being Elsa’s “Anna”, I think I like the direction of this side of season 4 story. I can see how this could work, but one question…how would Ana not remember her sister, unless her memory had been erased of Elsa, by the trolls of Arendelle.
I hadn’t thought of her memory being erased. I like it! 🙂

SaraTheHLessParticipantEpisode 11 (sorry, had written 12 by mistake) was her big character-flipping point. Anastasia (reborn) is a warmer, more impulsive, and sympathetic character than the Red Queen. Even so, I doubt they could incorporate all the elements of the Anna character from the film, just enough of them to make it work in the ONCE universe. I won’t nag you to watch it all the way through; if it didn’t grow on you, it didn’t grow on you. 🙂
You’re right, fire and ice is something of an antagonistic relationship and not visually expressed in the film at all. I would say that character-wise Elsa illustrates the perils of taking a closed-off approach to dealing with people and reckless, open, Anna reminds us why we shouldn’t talk to strangers. Neither starts off in the right, they improve by listening to and learning from each other (and, more so, their own mistakes). That’s the type of balance I was referring to and, I think, the type that you meant also. I’ve been conceptualizing it visually in those terms because I’ve already got fixed ideas for Ana in my head (that’s just me) and adapted Elsa to fit them because I don’t see Frozen in OUAT being 100% in keeping with the film but, rather, the main themes from Frozen applied in different ways to OUAT. I’ve also conceptualized Elsa and Anna as seasons but, I had them as more Winter/Summer, since those were the two seasons in play in the film. Spring would probably work just as well. 😉

SaraTheHLessParticipantIm sorry but I just can’t hold it back anymore. LET IT GO. Just turn away and slam the door.
No worries. I don’t care what you’re going to say. ;D
"The Laws (of Magic) never bothered me anyway."
SaraTheHLessParticipantI sure hope so. Though it need not go so far as Rumple being EVERY creature in the Disney Animal Kingdom, I really prefer the idea of having established characters cameo as other “new” characters for a bit. The novelty of the “bring on new characters and then drop em just as quickly or make them related to Henry” formula stopped working for me in Season 2 and I’m underwhelmed by the current offerings for who should play Elsa right now (with the nostalgic exception of LOST’s Elizabeth Mitchell).
We’ve seen villains as heroes, how about heroes as villains (or just “misunderstood” ice monsters)? Although, I admit, Ana’s already run the spectrum of good to evil, I wouldn’t mind seeing more of her nicer side if they can get it to work. Ashley/Ella is a character they could probably expand on, though I have another candidate in mind. If they’re to meaningfully incorporate something as beloved as Frozen into what they already have, isn’t something like that better than bringing on what could amount to a whole new cast and having that take time away from the others?
…and, although Will coming to Season 4 is much-appreciated consolation, I’m still really missing OUATIW (feel free to interject with “Let It Go” references here). I’m going to need at least a little Once Upon a Time in (Winter) Wonderland in Season 4, ideally with Stan and Hershey as well. 😉
"The Laws (of Magic) never bothered me anyway."
SaraTheHLessParticipantThat’s an interesting idea. 🙂
…but, that means, no Rumple in Storybrooke and that can’t happen until the series finale. I think I remember reading somewhere that Mr. Carlye had signed on for 5 seasons."The Laws (of Magic) never bothered me anyway."
SaraTheHLessParticipantSpeaking of the Tim Burton version of Alice in Wonderland, is that Absolem (the blue caterpillar-turned-butterly) on the glass slipper? O_o
"The Laws (of Magic) never bothered me anyway."
SaraTheHLessParticipantI wonder if Elsa’s abilities were somehow utilized in the creation of The Curse in order to freeze time. Seeing those snowflakes stop in mid-air at the end of the Disney film makes me think she could do it and, if we’re going to be hopping back and forth through time, Season 4 is going to need a character that can stop it.
"The Laws (of Magic) never bothered me anyway."
SaraTheHLessParticipantYou’ve got to admit, though…given the nature of the original Anna’s sacrifice, having Ana(resurrection)stasia as Anna has a certain consistency to it. She’s already something of a phoenix and I like the idea of Ana and Elsa being fire and ice. Balance is everything. 🙂
p.s. If there is Jelsa, I’m probably shipping it. I just hope they don’t turn Will into too fickle a character since Regina’s downplayed the emotional impact of not having a heart and all that.
