This “twist” really is needless drama at this point and it stirs up pointless argumentation. Even though I kinda expected Hook would be the one to kill Charming’s dad, I actually liked Hook this episode in the present day, but the writers just had to go there and drudge up Hook’s dark past. I think he’s never really able to leave it behind completely, even if he claims to be a “good” pirate now. (Is that even a thing?) Yes, we already knew that Hook was a lying, thieving, murderous pirate in the past, but now it’s somehow more personal to the blessed family because it was Charming’s father and Emma’s grandfather whom Hook murdered? To me, it’s no different than when Hook killed his other victims. My issue with Hook proposing to Emma isn’t only Hook’s dark past since we already knew Hook murdered people in cold blood. Heck, we’ve seen it on screen when he killed his own dad, and Hook told Emma he collected his rings off of his dead victims. Emma knows she’s dating a serial killer. It’s her choice I guess. (Not that I endorse dating murderers).

I think this will end up being more about the Charming family than about Hook.  Can they truly forgive him and move on.  They talk a good game about people getting redemption and a happy ending if you deserve one and you change your life around.  Well let’s see how they feel when they find out Hook killed Charming’s dad.  Nothing has changed.  They knew Hook killed people in the past.  But let’s see if they change their tune now that it’s a personal.  I don’t think it’s needless drama.  I think it’s intriguing and I’m interested to see how everyone handles it.  I just feel bad for Hook at this point.

And at some point, you have to start feeling bad for Hook.  Just another case of his past wrecking his present and future happiness.  Like of course some random guy in the woods he killed was Charming’s dad.  Poor Hook.  He’s come so far.  Finally got Charming’s blessing.  And now, when he seems out of the woods, this happens.  And he has to tell people.  It’s going to be his final step.  But man I feel bad for him.  The guy is trying to be good, and has actually changed, but similarly to Regina at times, he just cannot escape the past.

Man, not a ot of people liked this it seems.  Thrown me in the camp of not liking the story if it was just King George who did it.  And yes, this stirs up drama.  It’s a show that has drama.  And let’s not just condemn the writers before they even do anything yet.  I fully expect their to be repercussions and while I doe expect everyone to forgive him eventually, especially because they already know he’s killed people in the past and he obviously didn’t know who he was killing before, he’s still going to get a ton of backlash and this is going to seriously affect his relationship with Emma, Charming, and probably everybody.  It’s probably why we may not get a CS wedding until the end of the season.  If none of this plays out and they all just forgive him, then fine, condemn the writers.  But for now, I thought it was a fun twist and it’s going to really test the Charming clan, especially Emma, about whether or not they can really forgive someone for what they used to be.  This is a huge murder.  It feels like the ultimate final test for everyone to fully accept Hook and his past misdeeds and for Hook to fully be redeemed.  One final hurdle.  And it’s a big one.

If the show gets another season, it could be cool to plant the seeds for the Cowardly Lion to also be a part of the Lion King story if they did that next season.

    God I would love that.

I am a little shocked by this…..and Daniel will be so thrilled.  What is the final battle exactly?  I think it’s been made pretty clear that Gideon really isn’t a bad guy.  His mind has just been warped by Black Fairy.  And if we think Black Fairy goes down in her centric, plus if Jafar only comes back for the Agrabah episode, and if EQ runs off with Robin, who on Earth are they fighting in this?

100% agree that the end to this scene was fantastic.  And Robert Carlyle played it perfectly.  Giving us this scene makes me feel like the show may try to wrap up his character in a positive way rather than a negative power hungry way.  I still wonder if he will go on living as the DO or if he will be killed and it gets passed on.  The show already missed the opportunity to get rid of the darkness for good.

    Overall: 8/10

    – Really liked this episode.  The storybrooke scenes dragged a bit up until we saw King George but the flashbacks were the best in a long while.  And I liked the twist that Hook officially killed Robert despite King George being the one to execute the killing.

    Liked:

    – That Hook killed Charming’s dad.  I honestly did not think the show had any stones anymore and with the upcoming potential CS wedding, I did not think they would have Hook do it.  So kudos to them for actually doing it.  I said I would not like the episode if they just brought back King George for one episode to show he killed Robert and then poof, go away after that.  The fact that it’s Hook means it’s a storyline that still needs to play out, now that Hook remembers and obviously Charming and Emma are going to find out.  And as far as Hook getting away with it again….I take issue with that.  The show and Emma specifically has been consistent in saying that she forgives him for the man he was in the past.  She understands he has changed and isn’t that man anymore.  She has forgiven him for things he’s done in the past so despite this one thing being a tough one to swallow, I can see everyone eventually forgiving him.  We know Hook was a bad guy in the past.  And we know he is a changed man now.  Nothing has changed.  It will be shocking for everyone and there will be repercussions after Charming just gave his blessing, but I refuse to look at it as Hook potentially getting away with something again.  That’s not fair.

    – Hook asking Charming for his blessing.

    – Robin and Regina kiss not working.  Good.  Get this side story over with already.  He’s not the same guy.  We get it.  Move on.

    – Rumple not using Robert’s hair in the deal and actually showing a soul as the DO.  That was amazing.  The layers of Rumple…..leave it to Espensen to peal them back effectively.  For Rumple not to use something he retrieved in a deal because he empathizes with another Dad looking for his son, is just incredible.

    – Charming vs King George battle in storybrooke.

    – Charming getting angry and showing emotion about living up to be Prince Charming.

    – Snow helping Regina cope and understand the Robin situation.  These two have come a long way.

    – Pleasure Island and Pinocchio.  CGI looked great and I completely forgot we had never seen August after he abandoned Emma as a child and went off with those boys.  Glad he had a role to play in Robert finding James.

    Mixed:

    – Charming still calling Hook a pirate in a negative way in the beginning of the episode.  Like, I thought we had worked past this.

    Disliked:

    – The Zelena freak out.  Talk about over-acting and just over the top nonsense here.  I did not care for it.

    – Robert not fighting back was weak.  Not even a punch thrown….lame.

Granted Henry is already Emma’s child too so maybe I’m wrong.  But what I do know is that this story of OUAT has always been about Emma and her journey.  It has certainly strayed at times.  But it’s supposed to be about her.  So if there were a season after this, it should have something directly tied toward her journey.  And her journey seems to potentially end in a wedding.  What happens after weddings?  Children.  When is the wedding supposedly taking place?  The end of the season.  When are these new actors supposedly making their first appearance?  In the finale.

I guess it depends on whether you think the story started with Emma or Henry.  Bc if you think it started with Emma and Snowing giving birth to her, the Savior, then having a child with Hook and having their daughter/son be the focus of the next season makes more sense than you are making it seem.  Plus if we do get a CS wedding right toward the end of the season, that relationship will be front and center and would make sense if their future child was brought into the finale.  If you think the story started with Henry when he left to go find her, then it would make sense that the child is Henry’s.  You’re speaking in absolutes and I caution you.  You could easily say a CS child would be bringing the story full circle just as much as a Henry child.

Since I’m intent on trying to pin one or more of these new finale actors as CS’s kids, I’m going to say that it’s still Emma and Hook’s child that they adopt.  Regina dies somehow, and Emma recognizes how good of a mother she ended up being to Henry when she adopted him and acknowledges that by adopting her own child with Hook.  Although, I will say, it makes a little more sense that Henry, being adopted himself, perhaps also remembering his deceased adoptive mother Regina, adopts a child with Violet.
