ParticipantHi guys, did everyone read this essay from Screwball Ninja about why Neal gets no love? Basically everything we’ve been saying all along. Of course, I’m sure SFers won’t agree (even though there are a lot of them around here who put a lot of stock in Screwball’s opinions) but maybe I’m wrong.

ParticipantI’d have to agree with pretty much all that essay had to say Eala (& I had a good laugh at those 3 pics of why Neal left Emma- quite humorous when you see them like that, then consider how many SF’s cant seem to see how people cant just drop what he did to Emma- explains at very nicely).
Thanks for sharing 🙂

yeah ah that’s pretty much dead on, it’s really hard to believe Neal is a grown up Bae, he just seems so different.

ParticipantLove that essay. It completey explains not only why I haven’t been able to bond with Neal but why I expected to bond with Neal and then was frustrated when I couldn’t. And the best part is, the explanation in the essay has NOTHING to do with Hook – just like our CS ship has been saying. My frustrations with how Neal has been handled have NOTHING to do with me wanting Emma with Hook. I still wanted to see some kind of depth to Neal as a character – nothing that had to do with a triangle necessarily, wanted to see Hook and Bae’s backstory dug into – was dying to see all of that, hoping we will see more of Neal and Hook together dealing with THEIR personal aftermath in 3B.
But great essay. I do hope the SF folks will maybe understand what we have been trying to say hearing it from her perspective instead of insisting we are only seeing those things because we are biased by CS.
So I’m obviously still here but in more of a lurking capacity since I’ve been so busy. I have to laugh cause every time I look at the forum on my phone I am around the same people and I am sure they think I am some kind of freak staring at gifs of the same two people making out every day – sometimes close up, sometimes far away, sometimes slow motion, in different colors, focusing on different parts of the kiss. . . : ).

Yeah, I mean, most of us here with the exception of @obisgirl ENJOYED Neal in Nasty Habits. I really, really thought he was badass in that ep. But then he was relegated to the role of plot device at the end of the episode when Pan put him in a cage.
HONESTLY the writers chose not to develop him, chose not to show us what he thinks/feels about things other than his relationship with his dad, and it’s for that reason that I believe that his death has been planned, although i go back and forth on that. Who knows, maybe MRJ asked to leave at the end of season 2 and A&E decided to kill him off (because A&E said they came up with the concept for season 3 while the back half of season 2 was airing I believe).
And SF folks will NEVER understand why most of the fandom dislikes Neal, because from what i’ve seen in most cases, in the SF relationship, Neal is the important one. Not Emma.
Hehehe @rumplegoldfan, it’s ok, we understand you here 😉
Also Happy Valentine’s day everyone! 🙂 I’ll be posting some pretty things soon!

This sums it up! It’s not that I don’t like Neal, I just cannot bond with him and the essay pretty much spells out why. Although he’s not my particular choice for Emma’s love interest, I want to see his relationship with his father and Henry to develop and I want to see more of his and Hook’s backstory. I will be upset if he’s the one that the spoiler-that-shall-not-be-named is about.

ParticipantFirst of all let me say, I love Screwball. Her humour seems to put things in perspective seeing that she doesn’t take sides in the shipping wars. I certainly agree with her analysis of Neal. And her taking the writers to task over it was spot on. A and E say that they planned on Bae/Neal from the very beginning, got the viewers attached to Bae and I think we all wanted to see more of him and his story. And then they introduced Neal and …..nothing. Where did the Neal who burst in on Emma and Gold in Manhattan and gave his father a tongue lashing go? That’s the passionate character I EXPECTED to see more of. But then again…..nothing. Oh well….
On a happier note, I wish you all an excellent St. Valentine’s Day. SMOOCHIES!!!!!
