I am just really hoping that Emma believes by the end of the season. That is sort of where i want them to go with the season. I don’t mind mild skepticism on Emma’s part, but i really want her to at the very lease believe that there is something strange going on in this town. Also at the time of the Paley i think the actress may not have known what would happen in the end of the season, so i am still hoping. Though she may have by that point.

think the hearts the EQ extracted were the person’s soul. It took on the tangible qualities of a human heart in size and appearance, but it was really a metaphore for a human soul. When Emma was close to Graham she said something to the effect of “…there, I can hear your beating heart. It’s there, I can feel it” just before they kissed. It’s non-sensical to remove an actual beating heart and have the person still walking and talking.

I disagree that it is nonsensical to remove their heart and have them still walking around. It is magic. As long as they keep whatever they decide to do consistent then they can remove peoples hearts and have them still live all the want.
Right, @HJ. @Mal, Have you since Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest? Which is a Disney movie btw. Davy Jones cut out his literal heart and buried it in a chest so that he wouldn’t have to feel heartbreak. (It didn’t work though. He’s still tortured over his past with his lover) The pirates dig it up in that movie and use it to control him. And by the way, it continues to beat. (Isn’t that what we’ve seen them do in FTL too?) Anyway, I think it’s the same way in this show. I think the EQ literally takes out their hearts. And it’s because of magic that they can continue to live. To explain why Emma was able to say that in SB I believe what Graham’s excuse was–that his heartbeat was fake. The curse turned crickets into humans to make it more realistic, so it would’ve added a fake heart or at least the sound of one. I really like your theory though and honestly I believe there’s a mix. Because unlike with PotC: DMC cutting out their literal hearts ALSO cuts out their emotions.
Getting back to this episode:
I like how everyone is theorizing all kinds of things. And everyone wants Kathryn to still be alive, like Belle turned out to be. But this episode was dark. Peter wasn’t saved. I don’t think the writers saved Kat for us either.
Kathryn is MUCH more useful to Regina DEAD than she is missing or alive–so there’s no reason to fake her death. Why fabricate evidence if you don’t have to? Regina already fabricated some of it and the more she does that the more chance there is of it being discovered. She’s an old hand at this game so I don’t think she’d take any chances by faking a death on top of framing someone for it! It’s just too much. I think things do go a little deeper than face-value, that’s the way this show is. But honestly, you have to hold back sometimes. And in this case I think they did. I hope they did. I love crazy theories and plots but it gets so tiresome if it’s always always like that. You have to let us fall back on some reality or we can’t suspend our disbelief. The elaborate theories about the stranger are enough right now. We don’t need to be so elaborate with this too. It’s just… cleaner to do it straight!
RE: Emma:
I really hope that the cliffhanger for the end of the season is Emma faced with some kind of magic that she can’t explain. I want her on the verge of believing on the very last episode. Seems like the perfect time for that to happen. Her lack of belief is another thing that will get tiresome eventually.
March 15, 2012 at 8:00 pm #138909kitkatkateParticipantI had a really crazy idea: what if the heart could be EQ/Regina’s love? We know SW did something to take away EQ love, and it would explain SW/MM fingerprints. No clue how SW got the heart, but that may be explained in the next episode.
March 16, 2012 at 6:31 am #138931infinitypalmParticipantI’m still doubting that the heart belongs to Kathryn. I could be wrong of course, but it doesn’t make sense to me why the writers would bother to reunite Abigail and Frederick, then bring them both into Storybrooke, only to kill Kathryn off now. I guess it’s possible, but it seems a bit odd to me.
So who else might the heart belong to? I think there are a few things worth considering…
- When the Huntsman asked the Evil Queen why she hated Snow White, she said that she shared a secret with Snow, and Snow couldn’t keep it.
- From Snow’s letter to the Queen: “I understand that you will never have love in your life because of me…”
- Maleficent to the Queen: “Weren’t you about the same age when you were to be married before she [Snow] ruined it all?”
My guess is that Snow spilled the beans about an affair Regina was having during her engagement (or expected engagement) to Snow’s father. My question is, why will Regina never have love in her life because of what Snow did?
I wonder if this is where the heart could enter the picture.
There is a theory floating around that the box contains Regina’s heart. That would be an interesting twist on her modus operandi. What if someone took Regina’s heart in revenge for what she did?
We’ve seen that Regina’s possession of Graham’s heart gave her power over him that had been carried over from Fairytale Land. He also lamented that he couldn’t seem to feel anything.
We’ve also seen that Regina seems to have difficulty with love, or expressing love for other people. Even when she genuinely tries to love and be loved (e.g. Henry, Hansel & Gretel), she can’t seem to get it right. Could this be because she literally doesn’t have a heart?
I’m not sure how the fingerprints fit into this, but I’m guessing they’re from Fairytale Land, and Snow got a hold of the box somehow. Especially because it looked like Regina was originally trying to frame David, not Mary Margaret, with the phone records.
It would be even more interesting if this was what Mr. Gold was burying in the forest when he was “gardening.”
Maybe all this is a bit too “out there”…but I enjoy speculating nonetheless. 😉
March 16, 2012 at 11:55 am #138941hjbauParticipantI think that it could be very interesting if Regina doesn’t have a heart. I don’t think that the heart in the box is the queens because i think it has to be a dead heart, but who knows. If they queen doesn’t have a heart i wonder how she lost it.
March 17, 2012 at 3:29 am #139003riddleravenParticipantI keep thinking and thinking about this and the more I do the more I realize you really can’t know anything with this show. So I’m throwing up my hands. I’m just gonna watch and see.
March 18, 2012 at 1:37 am #139038BelleOfTheBallParticipantI have a hard time believing it is anyone but Katherine’s heart. Although I cannot believe they would start a story line and make a point to show Fredrick is in SB and kill her off, Regina and the EQ made it very clear she gets rid of those who are no longer of use to her. Kat’s point was to keep MM and David apart, and when she realized they were meant to be together, she became of no use to the queen.
My only other suspicion is that it is Kat’s heart but she is not dead (like Graham’s situation). If the queen had taken her under control in FTL it wouldn’t be unheard of that she was locked away somewhere as Belle is. But I find this HIGHLY unlikely
What I would love is for Kat to burst in while MM is on trial for her murder – it would be such a tailspin and would show that someone in the town was framing her. Again, this is HIGHLY unlikely, but it would be fun 😀
March 18, 2012 at 2:01 am #139040hjbauParticipantI think it is very likely that Kathryn is going to burst in at some point.
March 18, 2012 at 3:58 am #139042BelleOfTheBallParticipantI would absolutely love for her to burst in. Especially during the trial – It would really give a spin!
March 18, 2012 at 4:52 pm #139064SlurpeezParticipantAnastasia Griffith is listed in the credits of episode 18 as Kathryn/Abigail. Perhaps Kathryn's not dead after all. The heart must belong to someone else.
