Just checked the transcript. Regina never expresses shock about the squid ink. Rumple tells Henry the bedtime story and Regina just listens. I think it’s very possible she already knew about it.
Thanks RG!
Regina is one of those characters who actually can keep some stuff close to the vest for a time so she may have just quietly listened but wasn’t surprised really because she’s known about it for some time.
1) We know she knows about mermaids since she was having issues with one
2) She’s known Rumple a lot longer / better than most and knows it is always all about the wording, especially when making deals with him so also knows that sometimes it’s best to keep ones mouth shut or feign surprise (like at the beginning of the entire show where she had no idea about this silly fairy tale obsession Henry had – she was surprised about the book, but kept laughing off the idea that she was the Evil Queen when she obviously knew who she was. Similar to the “Who is Jefferson?” line instead of “You know Jefferson!?!?” Regina pretends not to know or understand things when it suits her)I’m pretty confident that something, probably squid ink, took at least Rumple if not Regina to Neverland to deal with mermaids. The question that remains, other than what did Regina want there, is did she ever get any help from Rumple or not – he wanted her to enact the curse, but he fell apart after she told him Belle died so I don’t see him helping her after that – so did she ever get what she wanted? And if so how? And what was it?
I would guess that Rumple went to Neverland many years earlier to fit in with other events on the timeline but adding Regina into Neverland is making sense and making my head spin all at the same time regarding the timeline and what drove her/them there and back.

What if Emma turns that black diamond into a white diamond thus sending everyone back to where they come and destroying SB but not the people. 💡
Interesting idea! I like it. Would show Emma using her magic again and in full force. The idea that she’s taking some dark and bringing it back to the light is a good image. (And of course I like the idea that even if SB does end up being destroyed at least the people will be safe).
Edited to add: Emma is the town’s savior, she’s supposed to be able to save them, not just let them all die. So *fingers crossed* she finds a way and I like your idea of how!

MysteryKat25ParticipantI’ll have to rewatch. Was she surprised that he mentioned squid ink or had she never heard of squid ink before? Sometimes with Regina it’s playing dumb and sometimes she’s just shocked that somebody else knows something she thought was a well-kept secret (ie: “Who is Jefferson?” *smacks forehead*)

If Rumple went to NL for the squid ink then why did Regina? We know she has a certain mermaid problem, but what caused it and why go to NL? What did she need there?
Maybe Regina wanted squid ink for herself, so she had a certain mermaid fetch it for her, and in exchange gave that mermaid legs. Regina might have wanted the squid ink to write her own spells. In 2×9, Snow White said she had witnessed Cora blow on the pages of her spell book to activate the magic, which is how she know to blow on the parchment Rumple had written upon, which opened up the cell. This also indicates to me those spells in Cora’s spell book were also written in squid ink.
Good catch slurpeez! We know that Regina built in her own failsafe so she was clearly doing stuff behind Rumple’s back so it wouldn’t surprise me if she needed some squid ink of her own in order to accomplish some of that with the curse (especially if Rumple did use squid ink to write the rest of it).
I like the idea of her essentially being Ursula and it fits. I know Lana has said she’d love to be Ursula and that was awhile ago so hopefully they’re giving her what she wants so it all connects! Sounds like she struggled a bit getting what she wanted from the mermaid given that she went to Rumple for help with dealing with her but perhaps it is just that Ariel thwarts whatever her plans were and becomes an issue for her. Though why that would be a problem in a different realm I don’t know unless Regina reallllly needed some squid ink.

MysteryKat25ParticipantThanks Obisgirl, that did cheer me up!
It was seemingly taken from awhile ago (just like all the other CS hints *sigh*) so I’m sure she probably couldn’t mention much about Neal at the time since it sounds like it was before Manhattan but I’ll take what I can get, especially since she did say that we saw glimpses of it with GRAHAM and HOOK, nothing about the past with Neal other than it being the past.

MysteryKat25ParticipantI think the only think they’ve mentioned about Tink so far is that they’d certainly be disappointed if we never learned her story. No definites on WHEN that might happen but I think it’s one we’ll definitely see at some point and could very well be hinted at next week along with a slew of other Neverland characters we’re likely to officially meet in S3.

MysteryKat25ParticipantThanks RG, I knew you’d know the answer!
Ok so…
Realm Jumper = Jefferson (yay!)
Time Turner – probably just a little nod to Harry Potter so unlikely
Mage – ??? (any ideas?)
If it’s not the mage, then it’s pretty much gotta be Jefferson and his hat which has been set up before. It would make total sense that Rumple uses him to help procure squid ink, not realizing just how close he is to finding Bae *sniffle* (but I’m all for protective Hook and a good Hook – Bae relationship, even though it means that Rumple never had to do the whole curse in the first place. Granted then we wouldn’t have a show….)
Good points slurpeez!
I forgot we saw Rumple travel himself to a Land Without Color so he himself has definitely used it before (did we ever SEE that door in Jefferson’s hat either? That would mean it’s possible we never saw a door to Neverland too…)
As for the Regina / Mermaid situation I’m still puzzled. It certainly seems like the mermaids are going to be from Mermaid Lagoon in Neverland so I have no idea what Regina needed so desperately that she would go to all that trouble unless it was something she needed for her side of the curse. It was a black diamond for the failsafe right? And the failsafe was HER failsafe, not one that Rumple added like the thing with Emma, so maybe it relates to that? Trapped black squid ink in a perfect diamond? (OK now I’m stretching things a bit but so far it makes no sense)

MysteryKat25ParticipantPixie dust, shadow pan, pixie-dust-enhanced flying ships, bean portals…surely there are other ways too.
I’d like to see the hat that Emma made come into play as well. Not sure where it ended up and Jefferson is away for the forseeable future.
I think we’ll see the hat room again though because it would be in the past and presumably with Jefferson. We know he went to Oz for Rumple in the search of the slippers, and retrieved Dr. Frankenstein for a mission for Rumple. I can’t remember any specific door that screamed Neverland but I’d have to study them again. Surely there’s something!
If it’s not a room in the hat, then there has to be another way. What other things did Rumple suggest when he was talking to the Blue Fairy about how to follow Bae? Curse was very last option but there were definitely a few ideas thrown out there and that was long before Jefferson and his hat ever came around and Rumple is old, powerful, and smart (if not high on common sense sometimes).
With magic in Neverland then it would count as far as Jefferson’s hat is concerned and Jefferson was the one who said there are infinite worlds…maybe there’s a 2nd room in the hat, go through a certain door and it leads to a whole new door room?
And then of course if Ursula is hanging out in Mermaids Lagoon anything is possible. It would certainly tie up most of the mermaid problems.
I agree that Regina has had dealings with Jefferson over time and it’s just a case of when she knew what regarding him helping Rumple and Frankenstein betray her, and it would have to have been before she trapped him in Wonderland of course.
Regina & Rumple have definitely both encountered mermaids before though, Rumple to get the squid ink and Regina had some kind of a run-in with a certain mermaid – though she would have gone to NL, had issues with a mermaid, come back to the EF, asked for help and then wanted to go back I DO NOT KNOW! She must have needed something though, regardless of where the mermaid is. Wonder what that could be.

MysteryKat25ParticipantI did the same thing too RG re: Lost (and I watched all of that in 2 weeks!)
It’s the problem with the internet days. We say hmm, I’ve seen that person before *goes to IMDB* and by the time you’re partway through you know who everybody is. Oh to be in blissful ignorance and yet all knowing all at the same time…
It’s like when people say they wish they could read their favorite book or watch their favorite movie / show for the first time again to get that feeling back of not knowing how it’s going to happen, only it adds an extra level to it of wanting to know who’s who but sometimes wishing you didn’t so it wouldn’t spoil stuff.
It’s DEFINITELY interesting who was left off of this one but I am glad to see the dwarfs included! (Bring on Grumpy and snide comments about pirates. I’m begging you writers, it’s too good NOT to use!) (And yes I still feel stupid saying dwarfs but it was dwarfs in Snow White and dwarves everything post-Tolkien so I go with it lol).
